Where’s the ART is the World’s First 24 Hour Coin-Operated Art Gallery. It has been in three other now closed locations, but is open 24 hours again, ready for you to spend your quarters at. You don’t go inside, you stand on the sidewalk and deposit your quarter and then you have the choice (many more to come) whether you want a session with Dr. Justin D. Nikov-Time, Psychic to the Stars, who does past life regressions, predictions, and psychic counselling. Or you can choose to worship at the 24 Hour Church of Elvis, which is what the store is popularly known as. 24 Hours a day for 25 cents, you can hear a sermon, study catechism, confess, for a little more you can get married. Prizes come down at the end for either the psychic or the church of elvis (very soon they will anyway) We also do legal weddings and/or commitment ceremonies for $ 25. History
Established in 1985.
The First location opened in 1985 and featured Dr. Justin D. Nikov-Time and Ms. Santa Barbara in the window. You could go inside where over 300 artists showed their work until the store closed in 1986. The second location was where Berbati’s billiard room is now, and was open from 1987 to 1994. The 24 Hour Church of Elvis exhibit opened there in 1988 and became the popular name of the store. The real name is Where’s the ART My third location was a few blocks west in a three story walk-up that was not open 24 hours unlike the earlier and the current locations. At that store you could get a tour. The current location (408 NW Couch, Portland, OR 97 209) became coin-operated in August 2009 and is still a work in progress. You don’t go inside, everything takes place on the sidewalk.
