History

Established in 1991.

With the purchase of the building we continued the entrepreneurial spirit which was originally «The Villa Inn», a local diner, which later became the «Keg and I» tavern, where early Portland wrestlers would come to wet their whistle. As I was a general contractor and my partner and wife was in retail with stores of her own, together we decided to take on the ownership and renovation of this historic building. One box of Don Diego cigars was sitting on a shelf; my desire for premium cigars inspired me to build a walk in humidor. We also built the Java Jungle in the early 90’s as coffee was taking off and was, is and ever shall be a wonderful complement to cigars and tobacco. The Java Jungle is now the Cigar Jungle and has been renovated to meet the needs of our ever-​growing cigar customers. We started going to the cigar trade shows every year and cherish the grand experiences and personal relationships that we have built over the years. I love the smell as soon as you step through the doors. One look around and you know you are in the right spot. If it has to do with smoking, be it pipes, cigarettes, cigars or you know, that recreational stuff 82nd has it and chances are its a bit cheaper here as opposed to those super trendy spots on Hawthorne. Its just as cool as those shops, probably a bit more laid back and just a little farther out. Due to its location, the workers and selection 82nd has become the only smoke shop I frequent.

I accidentally bought the wrong ePen and came back to exchange it a few days later. The exchange was quick and easy and they were very understanding about the situation.
The same guy who helped me both times was extremely knowledgeable and ever so nice. And cute! :)
I’ve never had problems here, always found excellent service and intelligent staffers.

Do not buy P Sure here if you are testing at a hospital. It does not work. The people who work here will tell you that they have been selling it for years and say there have been no complaints about it. I see now that must have been a lie. My sample was caught for not having uric acid. Dont get Quick Fix either (which does have uric acid pellets to drop into the solution.) Somehow the hospital caught that too, even though Ive used it many times at other labs and had no problems. Something about how hospitals screen your urine.

I have been shopping here for a few years now with my husband. They are the only tobacco place to carry the shisha we like for our hookah. We have tried to get places closer to home to order it for us and they won’t. This place is awesome, friendly service and they have what I like. We drive from Vancouver just to shop here and it’s worth it.

Like this place, love tobacco. A cigar store is the grown-​man version of a candy store. So many goodies. And you can smoke on the back patio here. Staff is helpful. Selection is great. My faves like Acid, Nub, Perdomo, Cohibe — all here (can’t wait until the Cubans come in). A good cigar is not cheap, nor should it be. It’s an amazing escape. No PC Portlanders, please.

I’ve been here many times over the past 20 years. With that said I’m a vet and they normally have given me a discount with my military id. Today the cashier said they’ve never given discounts to military as it’s not their policy. I call bullshit since I was in there just a couple months ago. This pos place is now anti military and in my eyes anti American. I will never buy from this shithole ever again! You lost a great customer for life!
EDIT: management is addressing the concern so all employees are on the same page as they’re accepting military id’s again.

I love this place. A great local (to me) tobacco shop. Mostly knowledgeable staff. I’m not a cigar guy but I have had a lot of cigar guys as friends and family and this place seems pretty awesome. Good selection. Well kept. Two words: Cigar Jungle.
Their selection of loose tobacco and pipes are awesome, too. Plenty of rolling options for those that self-​roll, too. Reasonably priced and great for beginners. The folks there are always welcoming and eager to answer questions. I know 82nd gets a lot of bad press, but this business is a small friendly shop and not shady at all,
Their «Other» selections are pretty good and well-​priced, I have found some really neat and useful things there. They have always had a solution to whatever problem I was having.

I just moved into the area and needed a new shop. I did a seach and found this very page and because of the reviews I gave it a try. WOW! Fantastic selection of cigars from cheap to ultra premium. I found the arturo fuente’s I was looking for and spent some time browsing the store. The staff are extremely friendly and willing to answer questions. The small but comfy smoking lounge was great. The vibe of the place is so UN pretentious. I’ve been back a couple of times and this is my new shop. Love it and highly recommend it.

The finest tobacco shop i have ever been to. They even have the hard-​to-​find tobaccos like Bally Shag cigarette tobacco in a cream colored pouch or Sherman Naturals in a cream colored box. mmmmm.
The shop is a feast for the eyes — they have so much cool stuff — tobaccology, tobacconomy, tobaccography — I don’t know the correct word meaning tobacco-​related. Anyway, they don’t rip you off (I won’t bore you with my story), but their displays tempt you to buy stuff. That’s the best of all worlds.

Alright, I know in a previous 5 star review I wrote for 82nd Avenue Tobacco & Pipe I stated that «82nd Ave T&P is PROBABLY my favorite store in Portland.»
But no, I need to state that it IS INDEED my favorite store in Portland. When I drive home from work each day, I try to talk myself into a reason to come here. «Am I low on pipe cleaners?» «Should I grab an ounce of a new blend to try?» «Should I buy another corncob?» «Maybe just stop to browse the cigars and new pipes?»
Yep, every single day I think about these things. I literally love this store, so much that I’m really starting to want to work there.
I really think pipe smoking needs to make a huge comeback! And if you agree, this is the place to be. Staff that are way more friendly and approachable than Rich’s. 82nd Avenue T&P is so laid back and unpretentious. If you know nothing whatsoever about tobacco they won’t remind you of it. I’ve heard horror stories from newbies going into Rich’s, but you’ll never experience any of that here. I love their staff and the selection of pipes, pipe tobaccos, pipe accessories and tools, pipe stands, etc. Meerschaum, Briar, corncob, antler, (and of course glass) they got it. They have much much much more than this too. Their cigar selection is out of this world and relatively affordable. Plus there is a premium cigar lounge and an outdoor cabana lounge on the premises.
Seriously, I love this place. I hate shopping, but I loooooooove shopping here.

When im not ordering online I like to swing by this place on my way home from work. They have a great selection to choose from and have comment cards showing which picks the employees have as their favorites which changes monthly. Its nice because it is a quick find when looking for something new to try. This place is 50% cigar and tobacco and 50% misc head shop accessories and other items. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat. Always have friendly great customer service when I go as well.

I go here whenever I run out of incense and/​or anything else smoke related.
They have a great selection of incense, lighters, papers, nick-​knacks, and pipes-​oh the pipes!
So many colors, shapes, sizes, styles! I could spend days in there just looking at what they have to offer. Very nice. Last time I was there they also had the «spill-​proof pocket bubblers», as I’ve heard them called. They’re all the rage in smokerware, right now. So much so, that for a while there the store kept selling out and having to wait for more to be made. Along with the wide selection, they also probably have something for everyone’s price range.
The staff is awesome and friendly every time I go there and they don’t mind you asking them a bunch of questions or looking at multiple pieces out of the cases.
So, if you are looking for a hassle free, helpful, and reasonably priced experience, this is the place for you.

This is one of the pillars of commerce in these parts, 82nd Avenue Tobacco & Pipe, Limited. They push the Cigar bit… but this is also a Head Shop.
Back in early pioneer days, they actually built 82nd Avenue just so they could get to this store, the 82nd Avenue Head, uh, Tobacco, shop.
Before that, they had to take the Columbia River, riding a raft, and then the rest of the trip via stagecoach.
Lucky you! Because today, you can easily find Cigars, pipes, amazing glass «tobacco» pipes, incense, a full selection of various Zig Zag products, about 25 or more varieties of rolling papers and a friendly staff.
Be sure to check their selection of «special papers» that are cheap cheap cheap. Usually you’ll find them in a little basket, on the counter, next to the rolling-​paper area. Not that I have ever looked at ‘em. LOL!
For bonus fun, be sure to watch the staff react to your arrival at the store. When you first step inside the door, your every move… will be watched!
All kidding aside, this is one of the best «Tobacco» shops in town, wink wink, nudge nudge.

How awesomely stoked am I to have found this tobaccoaisis a mere few blocks from my home? Well, let’s just say that a decent portion of my student loans over the past year ended up in these guys’ hands.
Unpretentious, welcoming, and low key. What more could you expect from a cigar store on 82nd? The clientele spans the full range from crackheads hooking up their next discount pack of BV’s, to permanently-​grinning dudes perusing the glass tobacco pipe selection, to upscale folk carefully selecting their next tubo from the walk in humidor. They have everything you would expect from a tobacco store, head shop, and cigar store. That makes it great. No pretentions here, this is the place for people who like to enjoy the finer smoke in life.
The prices are comparable with Tobacco Town (the notoriously well-​priced yet ghetto cigar and cigarette store on SW Barbur), and the selection of cigars is broad. I am able to find many of my favorites (A. Fuente, Cabinet Series, etc) at fair prices. They post descriptions and Cigar Afficionado ratings for many of the cigars in the case. The staff is always available to help with a selection as well, and I have never been disappointed with their advice.
Want to sit and enjoy a smoke before heading on your way? They have a little lounge with flat screen and free wifi. Yup. Free wifi.
Ever felt like the upturned noses at Rich’s are laughing at you because you don’t know the difference between a robusto and a churchill? Well have no fear. Make your way out to cracky town and stop by 82nd Avenue Tobacco & Pipe. You won’t be disappointed.
