A Cut Above Exteriors

Great from start to finish. I had siding replaced and a roof vent installed. In addition I had cedar corbels installed. I had several companies come out and give an estimate. Bill, a salesman from A Cut Above, presented a line by line estimate that detailed all work. The amount of time they put into the estimate was above and beyond compared to ever other company. costs were broken down by each line item. Other companies estimates were simply «Replace Siding — $X».
Sam, our project manager, was great. He communicated dates, worked around our schedule, and continued to check on his crew throughout the process. Any issue that came up along the way was dealt with immediately. He never gave the typical «Oh don’t worry about that, it’s not a big deal» answer. No matter what the concern he was there with a solution.
Finally the work crew was incredible. They were extremely fast and always kept the work site clean and professional. Not once was there a mess left behind. They even took the time to work out on the street parking with my neighbors, to the point where a neighbor even came to me and commented on how professional they were.
All in all my total experience with A Cut Above was fantastic. I would definitely recommend them.

Some could say they’ve changed, but our siding was installed by A Cut Above in 2001 and now 15 years later we have massive problems. The original crew had one guy who spoke english, the rest spoke no english. I’d come home from work and there was less siding installed than when I left for work. Our siding was combed/​finger-​jointed cedar and no one knew what angle of joint cut to make. It was face nailed not using ring shank nails (they say now that ring shank weren’t required) and using an overlap of 3/​8″ on a 5 3/​8″ siding board (the contract stated 8″ boards and installers usually use at least a 1″ overlap). For years the nails have been popping out and when windows were recently replaced, we discovered the smaller siding boards and dry rot in the plywood and studs. The window installers, a very good company, told us that the siding was not properly sealed around the windows. The house was painted shortly after the siding install, so many problems did not show until years after the original the work was completed. If you want overpriced inferior work, this is your contractor. I have a neighbor who also suffered from the Cut Above wrecking crew!

I wish I had checked the Unilocal reviews before calling to try to set up an estimate with these guys. They approached my phone call as if I had to convince them that the job was worth their time. But they didn’t take the time or effort to understand the scope of work. Don’t waste your time because they aren’t interested in earning your business.

I’ve hired A Cut Above for several jobs over the past few years. Yes, they are expensive, but I would still hire them again for my next big job that requires long-​term support. Here is why:
— Sales process: Josh Robertson is a completely down-​to-​earth, problem-​solving guy who knows the industry. He has literally spent hours with me to help me brainstorm and plan my projects, and to do what he can to work with me on price. The time he has spent on brainstorming alone is above and beyond. I felt like I was talking to a good friend who cared about my house. I trust him.
— Delivery: I have had two project managers oversee my different projects. Rob Colson and Peter Bretz have been nothing but professional and dedicated. On my projects, they have kept me informed of the plan, adjustments needed, things that didn’t go as planned, and how they were going to fix them. Yes, there were problems, especially with my siding job. I have had a few subcontractors through them who I was unhappy with. But, A Cut Above was 100% responsive to my feedback. I have never had to make a stink about the problems that occurred, because these PMs took the initiative to put a mitigation plan in place before I had a chance to get upset. I can honestly say that I feel that Peter and Rob have gone above and beyond to ensure I was happy with the quality of work they provided. They also were cool enough to take photos of unrelated problems on my house that there is no way I would have been able to spot on my own, while they were up on the ladders, enabling me to take advantage of chimney warranties and other types of repairs that other providers were responsible for. They have followed up on my jobs even while they were on vacation. Above and beyond.
— Customer Service: On some of the earlier projects, small things failed over time (gutter leaks, etc) and they have always immediately resolved the problems without giving me a hard time.
You can save money by hiring independents on smaller jobs that don’t need the long-​term support. But I feel that the extra money is totally worth it on roof, siding, painting, and other things that you may need followup on years later — A Cut Above will much more likely still be in operation, as opposed to the independent who might have retired to Arizona within a few years.
I only wish the price was a bit less. They really are not cheap, but I don’t hesitate to recommend them and I would definitely hire them again if I had to do any of it over again.

I called for an estimate on replacement windows. I was «ball parked» around 12,000. I was told by the salesman that he would get back to me with a firm bid. That was the last I heard from them. I did call and leave a message one additional time.
It was an odd interaction from the start. He walked in and asked «can you afford windows». I saw it as a sales tactic but a irritating one. Kind of like a challenge and I was supposed to prove I was worthy of his business?
Regardless, I went with a different company. Same windows, half the price with additional work. A cut above was the first business I called and didn’t have a clue. They were they highest priced by a lot of money.
Awful experience. Way too expensive and poor service. I think they cater to people who want to pay a lot to say they are going with a high end contractor.

a cut above put new siding on our home in 2005 shortly after we purchased it. i remember it being a fine experience and the work was good. the staff we dealt with was professional enough and straight forward in their communication.
WT* has happened since then??? i called A Cut Above’s phone number and gave them my info to get an estimate on a front door replacement. yet every time they called me back they would say «this is so-​and-​so from anderson windows». and almost everyone who called me was in a call center, probably not even in oregon. and i can tell, i used to work in a call center. then they start giving me the old «will all the DECISION MAKERS be in the house» routine a la empire carpets. at that point i just cancelled the appointment. someone needs to advise whatever dinosaur is running the sales department that they need to wise up to the fact that educated gen x-​ers and millennials aren’t going to fall for this Glen Gary Glen Ross routine they are attempting to pull over there. in fact they called me again today, i assume to try and get another appointment with me. but they didn’t leave a voice mail, i had to call the number back to find out who it was. LAME!!!

What to say about A Cut Above Exteriors?
A year ago I wanted an estimate to have a metal roof put on my home replacing my shingle version. Out of three different companies, A Cut Above Exteriors gave me an estimate of over 25 grand for the project by far the highest and compared to another company who was under 15 grand for their bid, why do I need to pay an extra ten grand profit to them? Why does it cost $ 25,000 to put a metal roof on a house no bigger than 1500 square feet? Also, the old sales tactic of metal prices are going to go up soon so you better hurry is a bunch of crap.
Even more than a year later, I’ve received at least three separate calls from them about trying to get me to go with them. The first time I honestly told them I had to wait financially but they seem to keep calling.
This company is completely unappreciated in their constant calling and way overpriced estimates.

Recently finished replacement window and siding project with A Cut Above after a friend referred us to them. Extremely pleased with the work and outcome. They coordinated with subcontractors for insulation and a small drywall job, and all work was great. Everyone was very helpful and professional. The new windows have greatly reduced road noise and our house is much warmer. Amy Hand was a great sales rep and the products are as described. The window installers did a careful job, as did the siding crew. They cleaned up the worksite. Communication with the office and work crews was good, and the project was completed in a timely manner. Highly recommend.

A Cut Above is AWESOME! We just finished a fully siding remodel… removal of EIFS and application of cedar shingles. They did an amazing job with great customer service. They were unbelievably neat and clean, on time each and everyday and did a fantastic quality job. I would recommend them for residing, or any of their services, without hesitation.

A Cut Above has been working on the townhome complex across the street from where I live for the fast FOUR months. It really shouldn’t take that long to replace window trims, balcony deck/​walls, replace deck doors, and repaint the metal rails.
They took up an entire length of a block for their stuff, including a mobile office (which they mainly use for air conditioned lunch breaks), and oftentimes reserving additional parking areas for their lifts. All this has been causing parking headaches for the neighborhood.
Typical workday involves 4 workers doing the actual work and a few just chatting. They work for maybe 6 hours. Not very efficient.
Speaking as a resident whose neighborhood their actions directly affect, A Cut Above is slow and quite inconsiderate.
