Specialties

Academia Duellatoria is a full service martial arts school teaching Historical European Fencing/​Martial Arts systems.

Subject matters include Bartitsu, grappling, dagger work, medieval sword and buckler, Italian, German, Dutch and Spanish rapier fencing, Italian and German Longsword and polearms. In addition to these physical pursuits we try to include a relevancy to modern unarmed self defence applications. We also now offer a twice weekly karate class.

Additionally, we offer historical presentations and lectures, combat demonstrations, private lessons, consultation, fight choreography, and stunt work by special arrangement. The school also maintains a full research library on Historical European Martial systems.

Academia Duellatoria is affiliated with the Association For Historical Fencing and with the American Karate Academies National Association.

The instructors have put in years of dedicated research coupled with physical practice of the techniques from their source materials. Add to that a welcoming atmosphere and a genuine desire to share their enthusiasm over historic combat with others, and you have an ideal set-​up for beginners and more advanced students.

These guys are as real as it gets. Working with recently re-​translated material from German and Spaniard sources this school is an incredible and rare resource for individuals who wish to learn from those traditions.
The school is reasonably priced, located in a really good place accessible by public transportation. The instructors there are the nicest people you will ever want to meet. They are friendly, treat students with respect, and without the snobbery that many newcomers experience in other schools.
In short, if you are looking to learn sword-​fighting in the traditional form, which includes the training of the mind, body and spirit, you will find a home here.
