History
Established in 2012.
Amenda Clinic was opened in 2012 as a brainchild of naturopathic physician Dr. Elissa Mendenhall, ND, as a response to the fragmented and disjointed approach to mental health and addictions care that is so commonly available. Since Amenda opened, the staff has grown to 10 practitioners, has been certified as a Tier III Patient Centered Primary Care Home, and has founded the 501C3, The Amenda Liberation Project, to help improve access for all patients to Amenda services, regardless of income or insurance coverage.
Meet the Business Owner
Elissa M.
Business Owner
Dr. Elissa came by her career honestly — the long and winding path. The beginning of the path was at age 11, while reading a Jean Auel novel, that illustrated the power to use herbs to heal the body. Shortly afterwards at age 15, a bout with depression and a mother who thinks outside of the box led her to discover biofeedback therapy, and the amazing relationship between the mind and body. The path continued through early adulthood, which included Dean’s List at Smith College, three years living at an intentional community, original field research in Nicaragua, and matriculation from New College in Florida. This path then lead across the country to Portland, and to the National College of Natural Medicine, where she graduated in 2005 with honors in research. Along the way, this path touched many lives affected by mental health struggles, which inspired her to pursue the young field of integrative mental health. It is to all those have struggled that she dedicates her career.
