After working with spas for 15 years, owner Helene L wanted to make spa services accessible to men & women who do not necessary have the time, funds or simply were intimidated by the spa atmosphere.

Helene designed Be Smooth as a «French Institut de Beaute» where you get «no non sense» professional advice and services.

As an expert esthetician with over two decades of experience Helene knows beautiful healthy skin shouldn’t cost a fortune. Tired of lengthy spa visits which left a serious dent in her own wallet, Helene Lawless has become a guerilla warrior in the battle for affordable luxury skin care.

Absolutely love this place! Been going here for the last three years, and waxing there (which, let’s be real, is never a pleasant experience) is always, ALWAYS a good experience. I’m a low-​maintenance, beauty-​minimalist gal who used to get facials once a year, but only as an indulgence AND when my girl friends talk me into it. I just never saw the benefit in going regularly. However, Helene’s treatments leave my skin so clear and glowing, that I now go every month. They’re affordable too ($ 35 – 55) so it’s easy to make them part of your routine. My skin has improved so I don’t even wear foundation anymore. Helene gives great, practical skincare advice for lazy gals like me and is never pushy or pretentious. They also sell authentic French pharmacy skincare products that are hard to find in the U.S.

Be Smooth is a cute boutique in Portland. It is easy to get find and the ability to make reservations online is very handy. I have had 2 spray tans done there, one for practice and one for my wedding. Both times the staff was very professional and accommodating. The spray tans turned out great. I would definitely recommend Be Smooth for the service.

I get my brows done here regularly and the staff is absolutely amazing. They are really good at talking with you throughout the entire appt so that you are 100% distracted from the pain. Also, one of my biggest pet peeves in salons is feeling like the employees are judging you for beauty routine (which isn’t uncommon in the Pearl). I get none of that here and they are the reason I continue to return.

I visited Be Smooth for the first time yesterday and had a facial from Amanda. She was really great-​took the time to listen to my concerns, gave me a few ideas about skincare, and sent me home with a few samples. She seemed very knowledgeable about skincare. My facial was great-​my skin is so smooth and feels great. Helene was really nice, she took time to go over a few tips with me as well. They didn’t try to upsell me nor book me for a bunch of additional services, I felt like they suggested what they really thought I needed… and I liked that! Totally will go again!

I came here on the suggestion of Unilocalers and was not disappointed! As I travel for work, it is sometimes a bit of a harrowing challenge to find a waxer based solely on Unilocal reviews when you don’t always have regular ol’ word of mouth to count on. I usually require a mix of hard and soft was and even then have some «unruly» hair so I’m used to waxes taking every bit of 30 minutes. But Jessica was very quick and had very little spot checking to do!
It was definitely one of the quickest waxes I’ve ever had! And it wasn’t too bad on the pain scale either. Well. the waxing pain scale, that is. You’re still getting hair snatched from your. um, well… you get where I’m going.
Only taking a star because at $ 50, I would think I’d at least be offered a water or something. But I’m basing that on New York $ 30 prices and $ 25 groupons :)
I do wish I had read some of the Unilocal reviews more thoroughly. I’m interested in know more about skin care and they had an awesome cabinet of sample products. That would have been cool to hear about!

I had my first lactic peel ever with Amanda this past Sunday, and ended up with a bad reaction (my skin was a lot more sensitive than I thought). Amanda was very thorough in guiding me through the aftercare, and sent me home with instructions and samples to tame my skin. I had a moment of panic when the following day, I woke up to brown patchy spots! I called in and spoke to Helene, who kindly invited me for a follow up consultation earlier this evening. I’ve never met someone who is so kind and generous! She took great care and found a way to remedy the solution, promising that we would get to where my skin should be. Needless to say, I will certainly be returning and would recommend both Amanda and Helene to anyone who is looking to take their skin care seriously!
P.S.
The remedies that Helene sent me home with were incredibly effective!!! Definitely a happy (and relieved) girl!!!

I have never had a bikini wax before, and I am getting married in a few days then spending a week in Mexico. So needless to say, I need to be hairless for beach bumming and surfing.
I read reviews and decided on Jessica. She was so nice and fast and made me feel totally calm and not at all embarrassed (I’m very shy about someone else other than my partner getting too close and personal) .
I feel sexier than ever and $ 17? I’ll be back. Thanks Jessica for popping my waxing cherry!

Checked Unilocal for some advice on where to get cleaned up and all signs pointed here. Rightly so. The owner knows her stuff. She did a great job on my unsightly hair and gave me some great skin care advice without feeling like it was to push product– just to help me out :)
Prices are totally reasonable and it is very clean. I managed to be seen on a walk in, so I have nothing but praises for this place that saved the day.

I really like this place. I’ve used them for waxing services so far, but plan to try their facials, too. I like the style of wax and technique they use (both hard and soft wax). The staff is really nice, friendly, and they make you feel welcome and comfortable. Plus, the online booking system and membership with discounts are a bonus!
My first experience was with Jessica, and the second one with Helene, the owner. They’re both experienced and efficient. I’m becoming a repeat customer!
