My family and I, are glad they closed last night.
Am glad we didn’t spend a dime.
When this business opens up again, we won’t stop in.

I do enjoy this restaurant, however, I don’t like how they have the front. You have to pay up front and since it’s always packed it’s messy with people trying to pay and waiting for a table. They are really nice, however, they do have one waiter there who’s notorious for making mistakes on our order, so we prefer the waitresses instead. But he’s a nice guy, we just always double check that he wrote down exactly what we wanted. The atmosphere is fun and for the price you get a good meal.

This is your standard greasy spoon. I ordered 2 scrambled eggs and bacon and it was delish. Crispy bacon and was not very oily.
If you want down and dirty breakfast, that’s what you’re gonna get here.
Great variety, lots of booze.
No espresso and service was mediocre.

Went to breakfast yesterday around 11am. Chicken fried steak was good and loved my biscuit. Enjoyed the décor and non pretentious vibe. Can’t really comment on other reviews but me and my boyfriend enjoyed food and would come back

My first Portland breakfast experience was at Beaterville almost ten years ago. I had a Spudabaker and it did not disappoint.
Even when this place is busy, it stays pretty quiet which I love. The staff hasn’t hanged much and everyone is real friendly.
I highly recommend getting the Zoe’s Eggs omelette. Get some toast, their jam is not to be missed.
I can’t get a very good cell signal in this place. Other than that, it’s terrific.

Came here for Sunday brunch and had NO wait which was awesome. Got a giant, delicious omelette for a reasonable price! This is definitely a divey sort of neighborhood breakfast place — not sure if they’ll make it into a regular rotation but I wouldn’t be sad if I ended up here (especially if I had a hangover!) Food came out fast, friendly service — note you can only get brunch on Sunday (no lunch options on Sundays).

I’m not sure if this place has gone downhill or I’ve just had better quality breakfast fare elsewhere in the last few years. This used to be one of our favorite breakfast haunts. I ordered the omelette with avocado and pepper jack cheese. I can’t even remember the name of the dish anymore… that’s how unmemorable it was. Their home fries were disappointingly bland even though the appearance made it look ostensibly seasoned. The best item was the biscuit out of all things. Well, too bad one half of the biscuit was soggy and soggy bread makes me gag so I could only 50% indulge in the best item.
And the waiter… I felt like we had a space cadet serving us the whole morning. He acted so absent-​minded the whole time we were there. He didn’t refill our coffee or water until we kindly asked him. And then he cleared all of our plates except for mine and was supposed to come back but never did. It took forever to get his attention to ask for things. I’m hoping it was just an off morning for the whole staff, because I would still like this to be our go to breakfast place but I’m not so sure anymore.

I love their food and that they offer gluten free options. The servers there are so sweet. It can get a little crowded and will take a little while to get your food but it’s worth the wait!
I have noticed that if you go there on a sat/​sun morning and eat outside, you may be accidentally forgotten about. :)

At first I blamed myself. I broke my long time dinning rule and ordered Mexican food at a not Mexican place. My huevos plate featured what seemed to be an undrained can of beans, flavorless eggs and a heap of bland salsa. The whole plate tasted like it had whizzed by the cooks without ever seeing a spice rack. I had to fish under my weepy beans to find my already soggy corn tortillas.
Never one to give up on brunch without a fight I decided I’d share my partners pancakes. Pancakes! Now that’s diner food, shame on me for trying to go south of the border. Unfortunately, things didn’t get much better with the pancakes. They were more like crepes. Nothing light of fluffy. just dull flat pancakes. I will say the bacon was nice and crunchy.
I’m not a big diner person. The ambiance is a little busy for me. Fly’s swirling around the back room also left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Three cheers for my heavy on the champagne mimosa which was a beacon of light in an otherwise very gloomy breakfast.

I thought Beaterville was OK. If you want a decent breakfast/​brunch and you don’t want to wait an hour for one of the super popular spots, come here.
The atmosphere is pretty cool. It’s got a funky, unique vibe to it, both in the décor and the people working there. There is really nothing bad about the food, but there’s nothing that makes it stand out either. Their omelettes are packed with veggies, but the flavor is just not there for some reason. Same with the biscuits and potatoes. They tasted OK, but they just didn’t hit that «Wow!» flavor spot that so many other breakfast places do.

Excellent laid-​back breakfast. My date and I ordered omelets.

I love this place for Breakfast. I’ve been going here for 8 years now and can’t believe that I haven’t written a review.
They have a perfect variety of options to please a group of picky eaters and the ingredients are always fresh. I really enjoy that they offer tofu in lieu of eggs for the scrambles. I don’t always feel like eggs.
My tip: get here before 9 to beat the rush.
I dig all of the random stuff stuck to the walls and ceiling. Gives me something to space out on while I wake up.

Just when you think you’ve had all the brunch possible in North Portland, they just keep coming at you. This brunch location is on the smaller end, but it adds a bit of charm to the café. The menu is simpler than most, which isn’t to say simple is bad; it can actually make a dish better.
I ended up ordering the Diablo scramble (a special) with a side of biscuits and potatoes. The scramble was pretty good, with an extra kick in Andouille sausage that really made the dish special. I also ordered a side of their sausage gravy to try, and it was quite the delight, particularly on the fresh, warm biscuits! It ended up being a condiment for everyone at the table, encouraging some interesting experimentation with gravy and strawberry jam.
Overall, I had a good time here. Service was attentive and food came out fast. It wasn’t even really that busy at Brunchism’s heaviest time of worship. I would definitely come here again.

OK little diner. Not great, but good service and a decent omelet (I got the Fiat). Terrible coffee but it is a diner so expectations weren’t high to begin with :) Super nice waitress. I know it’s the diner style to make you pay up front but it’d be nice if they’d take your money at your table just to keep people from crowding around an already small waiting area inside. Cute interior. Probably won’t return though because there is better breakfast to be had in this town just about anywhere — taste is comparable to Denny’s.
Note: I wouldn’t agree with prior reviews saying that it is cheap, however, as ten bucks for a vegetarian omelet is pretty much middle of the road price, if not a bit expensive, here in PDX.

This review is for the Service Bay Bar. I work in the car business so I like the quirky auto memorabilia scattered thru out. From the front end of cars sticking out of the walls to the car body planters outside and all the hub caps in between.
I had the Bacon Burger and Susan had the Cuban Tacos. They were both good but not great. The service here was great thou.
The blues and jazz music was fun and the on point service we got we will make another trip back.

This review is for the new Service Bay Bar. A favorite local jazz bass player (Andre St. James) was booked with a quartet and S.U. had an evening class, leaving me free for dinner, so I took advantage.
The SBB books a wide range of performers. The space is similar to the adjacent BV Café but more open. The stage is in the back of a long room so you can adjust the volume by sitting closer, in the booths or further back at the bar or on sofas and tables. One problem with booths is that half the folks have to turn to see the stage. I was there first so it wasn’t MY problem but, a consideration.
The food was decent, straight up café fare with a nod towards some veggie options. My burger and salad was just fine. Good range of local beers, draft and bottle. This night had a $ 5 cover which I consider dirt cheap for the quality of music and players. I was joined by a couple of Yeeps and later by the Spousal Unit.
More music venues are good. It means more live music. Inexpensive and unpretentious music venues are good, especially with quality jazz players. There’s a place for the fancy jazz supper clubs, for the Jazz Jam joints and for the local bar with a band. Great jazz can be found in all of them.
Support live local music! I’m a fan!

If you want to be served bad service on a plate, with a side of attitude then come on in!
After reading all the great reviews, I made it my mission to come here. There was about a 20 – 30 minute wait on this Sunday morning. Everyone there seemed like regulars, which is always a good sign.
We sat at a two seater table and watched everyone that came in after us get served before us. It wasn’t until we tried to flag her down that a waitress finally came. We tried to order one of the specials, but they were out. Later I heard a neighboring table try to order it later too, only to be disappointed because they still hadn’t crossed it off the board.
We got our espresso drinks. There was no doubt that these were delish. I got one with caramel detour and the BF got a blacktop mocha. We happily donned our whipped cream mustaches and admired the random vintage tidbits covering the walls as we awaited our breakfast.
I ordered the Falling Leaves omelette with veggie sausage, which was a special, and the BF got the matador omelette with a side of gravy. We both opted for biscuits as our bread.
When the food came, I noticed that mine had regular toast instead of the biscuits I ordered. I normally wouldn’t say anything, but I was curious to try it with the gravy, so I mentioned it. She said, «Are you sure? You didn’t order toast?» «Nope!» *She rolls her eyes and says «Fine. I’ll go get you a biscuit.» Then, there wasn’t room for the BF’s biscuit on a separate plate. She told him to pour them on his main plate and she’d pick up the plate. She never did, so he was left awkwardly holding the plate for a while because there was no room on our table.
After I was already halfway finished with breakfast, my biscuit finally came. I took the check up front to pay and I had a coupon from
. She seemed pissed. I hate it when restaurants act like I’m trying to rip them off! You signed up for it. You can opt out of it if you want!
She mumbled something about tipping off the whole amount, which I always do anyways. Then, I found out she had added her own tip when she charged my credit card! I had no idea and I added more money on the tip line wondering why it seemed abnormally expensive given the coupon. Who does that?! I understand if we had a large party, but even then automatic tip is stated somewhere on the menu. You can’t just assume you get 20+% tip!
Anyways. The food and drinks were decent, but not worth of the whole experience. Brunches are supposed to be a leisurely and relaxing way to start the day, but they really brought out the worst in me!
