Birds & Bees Nursery

In my new neighbourhood, Birds & Bees will be a regular stop for me. They have everything for your indoor and outdoor plant (and animal) needs… but the truth is that any shop that has a resident kitty has me at hello. I’m weak. Bergie shouted at me upon arrival, «Hello!» she said, and I responded in kind. Back and forth, we chatted for as long I wanted. She rolled around on the floor and head-​butted my leg… she knew what she needed to do to get me to spend money. And I did. B&B had a great selection of unique houseplants and terrarium fixin’s. Really lovely shop, worth a visit to Creston-​Kenilworth if you don’t live nearby.

This is a cute little store on Gladstone Street right around 38^th. They sell boutique-​y and practical Gardening items, ideas, tools, and gear.
But wait, there’s more. They have gifts, cards, jewelry, home décor (mostly garden related) items. Be sure to stop in, even if you are not a Green Thumb.
Owner/​Clerk was nice and the front counter featured a large fully black cat on their scale. Bergy weighs 15.33 lbs. So cute. I got some pets in — good therapy.
Oh, I bought a greeting card.

I created a minimalist terrarium for a good friend of mine. I asked for a little advice, in terms of which succulents were simplistic in terms of care. One person that helped me, was very helpful, and boxed up my creation. Another person that was there seemed kind of annoyed that I was asking all these questions, which I found irritating.
I will come back once my kitten is a little older, so my terrarium doesn’t end up on the floor shattered to pieces. I made one years back, and it started to mold, I’ll have to come back and re-​create another for myself. I’ll definitely be back!

Checked this place out since I live across the street. This place is awesome. We recently moved here and had to leave all of our plants behind, so we’ve been starting a new succulent collection. I bought a couple of houseplants too. They were able to answer my questions about them, aka are they easy to kill. Haha. They have a corner where you can make your own terrarium too that’s pretty neat. Definitely worth stopping by!

I messaged the business after hours and they promptly got back to me. I wanted Lemon Grass and after visiting 3 other nurseries who didn’t have starters or seeds and had no idea when they would get them-​this little gem of a spot had it and and was very affordable.

Very nice little nursery that sells your needs for urban farming. Bails of straw for your live stock? check. Those upside down watering things for your chickens? got that to, Watering can that is shaped like a garden gnome? yep.
They have a nice selection of house plants and other decorating odds and ends inside. The women working was friendly and a small child came in very exited wanting to see the cat that lives there.
Outside there are more plants both in front of the store and in the back yard. Out back there were chickens according to said child before she went out back to talk at them.
There isn’t a big selection of anything due to the space available. What they did have looked very healthy and reasonably priced.

Love this place and so happy to have it around the corner from my home. Super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff! They really helped me narrow my selections within my means, which I have not found anywhere else in town. Will be coming back to slowly piece together my urban garden and so looking forward to it!

I LOVE Birds and Bees. They’re a really wonderful small business with a ton of great goodies for gardening, both indoor and out, AND they have a nice selection of jewelry and art. I know. Weird huh? No, not really. I bought two really beautiful necklaces that I constantly get compliments on and a Nikki McClure card set that I just love. I’m eyeing several prints right now… but back to business. They carry a great array of terrarium supplies which is super fun and wonderful starts and outdoor plants. The staff are all really great, too. Instead of going to the big guys for your supplies, go to Birds and Bees. Now.

I visited Birds and Bees Nursery just to pass the time. I didn’t need anything in particular, but I’m always prepared to nerd out over plants and garden stuff. The only thing I thought I might purchase would be some cheap plastic growing trays. I didn’t see any of these out on the floor; they might’ve been stored elsewhere, or maybe Birds and Bees doesn’t carry them. It wasn’t urgent so I didn’t ask. I can’t blame a store if it opts for more eco-​friendly containers, and I should be using them myself.
The houseplants stocked during my winter visit seemed a bit pricey; much better selection and prices are to be had at Portland Nursery, especially the Division St. store. But as the name implies, this place functions mostly as an urban outpost for chicken and bee keeping supplies. I don’t have any of those fauna in my portfolio, but I’m happy there is (yet another) place in SE Portland catering to those pursuits.
I don’t share the rest of Portland’s enthusiasm for terrariums, but that happens here too.

Not the largest selection in the world, but they are a fantastic local business that has served me and my neighborhood greatly! Super friendly, prices fair, I personally enjoy the native plants and that they will help me with anything I ask about and give advise for what I should go with depending where I want to plant something. If I load up too much they always help haul some of it out to my car, or offer to let me use their cart to talk it home the few blocks.

I just started gardening like yesterday lol but This place was around the corner from my place so I thought I’d swing by for some different varieties of herbs and succulents. First of all I got awesome customer service and the staff is super knowledgable. I love how the shop is laid out and there are gazillion options for any of your gardening needs… Oh the also sell farm fresh eggs! Straight from the chickens that are on the property! I will definitely be back now that I’ve caught the gardening bug!

Did you know there’s a neighborhood nursery that will help you with your urban gardening needs and is super affordable? This place rocks! Have questions about your vegetable garden, ask a clerk. Everyone here is super helpful and really enthusiastic. This nursery has everything from what you’d need to have your own chicken coop or bee hive, to excellent house warming gifts including gnomes, other lawn ornaments, and a «make your own» succulent arrangement area. Definitely will be back!

Worst customer service ever. Didn’t know the name of any of the plants I was interested in, couldn’t really tell me how to care for a plant and didn’t offer me alternatives. Won’t come back.

I’ve been meaning to write an update to my review here for some time ever since I realized the information I provided was blatantly wrong. Whoops. Sorry guys.
CORRECTION: In addition to having lots of great plants, these guys DO sell both birds AND bees. Also everything you need to raise said birds and bees. If you absolutely need to have the Birds & the Bees talk, these are probably the people to have that talk with.
I count myself incredibly lucky to live around the corner from this gem of a nursery. In past years, I’ve grown accustomed to buying seeds, soil, and pots at places like Home Depot because quality local nurseries seem to be an endangered breed. It’s so great to now be able to buy these things from people who actually specialize in them.
This is not a large business. The store itself is really just a single room and their outdoor nursery is modest. But they really pack a punch with the space they are working with, providing ample selection at reasonable prices.
The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. If you have any sort of doubts or questions, don’t hesitate to ask. I’ve always left this store knowing more than I did when I walked in. When it’s all said and done, I’m a big fan.

What an adorable little SE Portland nursery. They are just west of SE Chavez on Gladstone. Birds and Bees has a great selection of native starts, veggies, and bulbs, and necessary items to keep your garden rolling like pots & organic soil, as well as supplies for bee hives or your chicken coop (including baby chicks in the spring!) They offer build your terrarium classes, frequently have seasonal events, and carry local art as well. The owners are super friendly and helpful with your garden projects. And if you are lucky, you’ll meet Clancy the pig!

I’m glad they know that Sarracenias are NOT houseplants.

Great place and plenty of variety. Prices seem more than reasnable. Staff has always been very nice and welcoming. If you are looking for garden supplies and are in the neighborhood, I would go here first before driving up to the big box stores or even the large nurseries.

Great neighborhood nursery. I’ve been buying chicken feed and supplies here since they opened and I am looking forward to buying stuff for my garden soon.
They are always friendly and helpful when I have questions.

I’m so happy to see Birds Bees Nursery as a part of the new neighborhood growth on Gladstone.
This shop is quite charming and has a thoughtful selection of useful home and garden items along with a small selection of plants. I regularly buy food, straw and supplies for my chickens here, and will shop here the next time I need to buy a gift.
I first discovered this store when a close friend of mine brought me a house present from here. This appears to be a very small business, and looks like it probably needs a little neighborhood support to make it through the first couple of seasons. I hope they make it so I don’t have to go back to leaving my neighborhood to care for my chickens!

We have been on the hunt for Barberry bushes and recently visited Portland Nursery. We were overwhelmed by how large it is and when asking an employee for assistance were disappointed by the lack of help and knowledge.
Fortunately, Birds and Bees exists! The first time I went in, I was a little taken aback by the lack of selection but talked to one of the owners, Amanda. She promised that they could order anything we wanted. She and her partner have been so helpful in our decision making: how many bushes, the size that we need etc… Anyway, we finally purchased the bushes and they were $ 15 less than what Portland Nursery charges AND they are bigger! I could not be more pleased. We will be back and will tell all of our friends to shop here.

Great local shop. Great for picking up chicken feed and for my bee keeping needs. Always a friendly face welcoming me in with reasonable prices. Also great gift ideas for local NW plants like terrariums that are easy to care for. Easy to park can always get help to my car if necessary. So happy they are in our neighborhood. Check them out.
