This is a great wine, cheese, and fish high end boutique market. It’s beautifully decorated and has great presentation. It’s wine selection is excellent… as is the fish… with great sushi grade tuna and salmon… which is not easy to find. Caviar, lox, uni… they have it all. Boutique grocery items also. I’d go five stars… but they are very expensive, and their wine prices are a bit abusive so I’m down to a very solid 4 stars.

This place is a little treasure trove in the height of a tourist hot spot. High end caviar and wine with a few groceries. If you’re in the area, even for a night, grab some supplies and enjoy.

Beautiful interior and the location is very centralized. If you’re looking for caviar and high end fish this IS the spot. Great selection boutique grocery items and wine /spirits. They also do lunch and I just had a phenomenal trout salad sandwich with cartelized onions for $ 7. I will be back !

I was spending a few days on the rural Maine coast, and I wanted to pick up some wine. I dropped into this place hoping that I’d find something that I like, which can be challenging because I drink a lot of wine. What they had on offer exceeded my expectations by far. I found wine(the Dessimis!) that I hadn’t seen since I’ve been to Rome, and some of my favorite French whites(complete line of Joly!), and a whole host of others. There’s another nearby wine store that gets a fair amount of press in Portland, and if you want your Sassicaias, Tignarellos, or high-priced Napa offerings, they have them. But as a wine nerd, I found more wine that I love in Browne Trading Market than I could possibly have expected. I highly recommend a visit.

What a cool place. We stumbled onto this place after we couldn’t eat our meal at Portland Lobster Co. This place had a great selection you don’t often find. We also had a prepared sandwhich that was great.

a box of uni was listed on the fish board. behind me, a wall of olive oils and sexy edibles. around the corner, a cold case of cheeses, then a wall of crackers, and then a bit further, cook books, bulgur wheat, french lentils. another cold case of cheeses… and then a whole other room. the wine/champagne/booze area. i was so tickled. though distracted by the liquor room, my bigger half gently nudges my shoulder, and then in a more demanding«get ahold of yourself man!» tone, he grumbles my name and forcefully points my face to the main event: a whole case, exclusively stacked with tins and glass jars of caviar. be still my heart. chris miller, a classy and caviar savvy young man if there ever was one, pounced on my quivering roe addiction, and boy was he ever ready to teach us a lesson of the best kind. carefully scanning the price list, he took us through a tasting of each of the american offerings, from spoonbill paddlefish to american hackleback(a member of the sturgeon family), and extending onto some of their yukon salmon roe, and american white sturgeon. as chris will tell you, and as i can attest to, american caviar is very affordable(especially at browne trading company) and also stands up pretty well to the multiple-hundo priced sturgeon cousins from across the pond. while we obviously couldn’t afford to purchase each of the more expensive caviar, we still received a tasting of the browne trading company’s more pricey offerings, including both royal and prime osetra. and to our own surprise, the prime osetra from the caspian was actually pretty affordable… a low reasonable price obviously the product of excellent caviar turnover and some high end clients, including eric ripert. my hunger satiated momentarily, we paid chris miller for our goods, and with a last breath before leaving what may very well be my new favorite store of all time, i shouted out«where’s the best place to get local oysters?» chris replied without skipping a beat, «go down to street & co and ask for lily. tell her chris sent you. they buy their oysters/seafood from us, and it’s the best.» all i can say is dreams of browne trading company dance in my rolly polly noggin. what a fun store and such a treat.

this is a fantastically cute local spot to pick up fresh fish and tasty accoutrements. the fish are lined up like sentinels, staring back at you from behind the glass case. pick me, they seem to beseechingly say. it’s hard to choose because many are caught close by fresh daily while others are exotically tempting. we went for the local haddock(so good) and tried the amazing blueberry oat cookies. there is an entire roomful of wines to choose from, too. i would move to portland just to be closer to this sweet little store.
