OHMYGOODNESS! I love love LOVE this cart! I have tried everything on the menu and have never been disappointed! To me it seems like the owner listened to previous less-than-positive reviews and really made some significant improvements! I have literally come here once a week for the last 6 months, and it’s only sheer willpower that keeps me from going more often. The brownies are moist, fudgy, and topped with an incredible ganache that makes my mouth water just thinking about it. The crème brûlée is the BEST I’ve ever tasted and the chocolate-dipped Scottish shortbread is buttery and flaky with just the right amount of chocolatey sweetness. The menu provides options for every taste and everything on it is delicious perfection! The other awesome thing about this cart is the owner. She is super friendly, engaging, and really interesting to talk to. Like I said, I come here at least once a week. and while the desserts are absolutely worth the drive, knowing I’ll get to chat with the owner for a few minutes makes me smile on the way over :-)

My husband and I stopped by today and decided to get brownies. She was just making them and since she didn’t have any ready, she gave us a Scottish Shortbread cookie. It was yummy! Her awesome personality and customer service will keep us coming back. I lover her motto. «Never trust a skinny cook».

A nice little food cart which served me up a delicious Granny Smith strudel for $ 4.50. Other people seem to have had some trouble with this place, but my strudel was absolutely delicious. served up quickly and topped with freshly made whipped cream. It came right from the mixing bowl. I’ve paid more money for Strudel I’ve enjoyed less.

This is the 3rd time I have been to Cake On A Hot Tin Roof, but the first time it has been open. I was a little disappointed previous visits that it looked open, but nobody was there. So anyhow, We bought the Crème Brulee and Berry Strudel. The Crème Brulee was amazing, some of the best I have ever tasted. The strudel was a little small, but she did take $ 0.50 off the price since it was the last one. SO, if I am craving Crème Brulee, I will head that way. If I am at Cartlandia and they are open, I may try something else on the menu. But I won’t be going out of my way to visit this cart(unless for the Crème Brulee!)

Kinda disappointing. The cart looks delicious and the pictures were very tempting. However, the marionberry strudel was extremely dry and didn’t have a lot of berry filling. It tasted like it was a few days old. As previous Unilocalers have noted it’s a bit challenging to see if there is someone in the truck or not. Not easy to get service if they are inside.

After eating at the delicious Pupusa cart I wanted a little something a little sweet, so I wandered over to Cake on a Hot Tin Roof. The sign read open on the inside and there was even a sandwich board display, but after standing in front of the place for a few minutes I realized that it wasn’t open. I should have just walked away but the picture of the brownie looked too good. The woman who works one of the carts next door said that they were closed but knows the cart owner and was more than willing to go inside and find me my desired brownie. The brownie was $ 3.50 and was smothered in chocolate sauce on the picture. The woman let herself into the food card handed me something that resembled a brownie in a plastic container. This so called brownie was actually smaller than a Twinkie and then she proceeds to asked me 1) does this look like a brownie to you? and, 2) how much do I owe? At this point I didn’t want to hand it back to her(even though I should have) and I handed her four dollars. I find a seat, open the clear plastic container with this tiny chocolate baked goodie and not only is it cake like in nature it is as dry as can be! Really, $ 3.50?! I was robbed. If you are closed, don’t have signs that read open and then have the woman in the cart next door run your business. That’s right Eek! Methinks not.

I had come here once before with a friend, not having the best of experiences with the chocolate mousse. Jennie told me to come give her cart another try, and I’m glad I did. First up, another go on the chocolate mousse that I heavily criticized on my first visit($ 3). This time, a much more successful mousse. Besides a larger portion, the mousse itself had more structure. The whipped cream on top still lacked the airy, extremely light qualities I’m used to seeing, but in all fairness, even that was still an improvement from the first go-around. Jennie’s Crème Brulee($ 3) was next. A well-executed brulee, with perfectly torched caramelized sugar sealing a lovely custard underneath. I found the custard light and pleasant. Breaking through the fragile sugar was like opening a present on Christmas day. Best of all, it was not overly sweet. A wonderful dessert. Lastly, one of Jennie’s rotating specials, the Almond Cream Bienenstich($ 4), a German pastry with puff pastry(or sweet yeast dough), Bavarian cream, and what really amounted to an almond brittle-like topping. The various texture contrasts(a chewy puff pastry, smooth cream, and nutty, crunchy almond brittle) made this my favorite of the three. «Bienenstich» means«Bee Sting Cake.» Legend has it that the inventor of the dish got stung by a bee. Another possible story involves people who threw beehives to stop a group of raiders from entering the village, then celebrated by making this dish(yeah, I used Wikipedia). Cartlandia’s Facebook page has more pictures of Jennie’s desserts. Warning: you may get hungry(again) after viewing them. I got a chance to see what truly comes out of this food cart. I noticed several people stopping by Jennie’s cart, contemplating what to order. Yes, it’s quite a selection. Honestly, just close your eyes, point to a menu item, and order whatever you pointed to(barring any allergies, of course). This is definitely a cart that people should try!

Eat Dessert First! @ Cake on a Hot Tin Roof, a new food cart located at Cartlandia(THE Bike-centric Food-Cart SuperPod located right on the Springwater Corridor Bike Trail). I highly recommend the Almond Cream Bienenstich(which means Bee Sting Cake). It has a yummy caramelised almond topping and is filled with a delicious custard cream — you will want to savor every bite!
