Description

Specialties

I provide psychological treatment (psychotherapy) to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. I have been in practice for over 22 years and bring many skills to my work including EMDR, hypnosis, Somatic Experiencing and Somatic Transformation, Creative Arts Approaches, and the standard «talk therapies». My approach is interactive, dynamic, and respectful.

I work with children, adolescents, adults, and families. Issues I work with are: Life change and challenge areas, mood disorders, trauma issues of all kind including childhood and adult sexual, physical and psychological abuse, accidents, traumatic grief and loss, victims of crime and other traumas. I am comfortable supporting persons facing medical issues and love engaging creativity and imagination in problem solving. I especially enjoy working with people in the creative arts. I love animals and have a therapy dog. I welcome GLBT individuals & families. culturally diverse persons, and Spanish-speakers.

History

Established in 1995.

I founded my private psychology practice in New Mexico in 1995 having previously worked within a managed care system. In 2007 I became licensed in Oregon and have been in North East Portland since then. I was a part of Wise Counsel and Comfort until recently and now have an office in Beaumont Village on N.E. Fremont Street. I have always worked with therapy dogs and have Surge, a big hairy sweetheart in the office.

Meet the Business Owner

Dr. Carol H.

Business Owner

I take a humorous and enthusiastic approach to my own life and hope to help others find the richness and depth in their own lives that gives me joy in my own. I strive to live responsibly on the planet and contribute to my family, neighborhood, and community. I have traveled a fair amount and am deeply interested in other cultures, religions, and ways of living. I invite my clients to find ways to feel safe and comfortable enough in the therapy relationship that they can risk facing those challenges which may otherwise hold them back. Honesty, directness, hopefulness, and kindness are qualities I seek to offer. A bit of fun and humor also help the process. I am trained in many modalities including EMDR, Somatic Transformation and Somatic Experiencing, Sand Tray, Hypnosis, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and using Art/Creative Modalities to name a few. I seek methods that respect the uniqueness of each client and focus on strengths rather than «pathology».
