The best primary care M.D. we’ve ever had, period.

I was a patient of Dr. Casono about 10 years ago. I changed doctors while still living in Portland, but couldn’t remember why. Then we moved out of state. When we came back to Portland and I needed to establish care with a PCP, I went back to Casono. And what a surprise. She acted very smug. Definitely not a warm, friendly, good-to-see you again vibe. She didn’t take my vital signs. Didn’t do any kind of checkup. Didn’t ask me why I was there. Was more interested in getting a very detailed account of the other doctors I“d seen since leaving her practice and why I left those providers as well. She had no interest and asked me no questions about my health conditions. Took an intense interest in the medications I was taking and grew very suspicious about them and the quantities I had. She did not approve of what my previous doctor had prescribed for me and told me she would have done it differently. She got very preachy, as if I had asked for those prescriptions and in those amounts — I didn’t, of course. My provider, with his own medical degree equal to hers, prescribed those drugs and in those quantities to treat me. She let me know she would never give them out in such quantities. NOTONCE did she inquire about the need for the drugs I was taking or what the underlying problem was. Essentially, she was just chiding me for going to a different doctor, asserting that she would do things differently, and looking down her nose at me, as if I was somehow to blame for the medication and their dosages. A totally wasted trip to the doctor. I’ll be sure to tell my insurance company about this.

Do not expect a confirmation call. They don’t do it, due to small staff. As per receptionist. Very long waiting time. I waited almost an hour before I saw her. She didn’t have an medical assistant to help her. Which usually makes the visit that much faster, if the doctor herself isn’t the one taking the vital signs. Having said that, she is thorough, and I didn’t feel like I’m being rushed. The office is small, the receptionists, are not that friendly in front of you or on the the phone,(maybe she’s very busy?), and the wait is just too damn long, but the doctor is good. So here’s the break down: Out of 5 stars. –1 for the receptionists –1 for the long wait

I have been fortunate to have medical insurance since my first real job in 1995. And since that time Dr Casono has been my primary care physician. She has done a great job in dealing with my internet misdiagnosis and occasional hypochondria. When she makes a referral I know that the specialist will do a great job. The staff is friendly and accommodating to last minute pleas for appointments if you are a regular patient. It’s actually hard to be turned down for an appointment which is great.
