Childpeace Montessori School

We are in our third year as a Childpeace family with boys in Children’s House and Lower Elementary.
The positive energy from students, teachers, staff and parents is truly amazing and heart warming. One can’t walk through the doors and not smile.
Like most kids, our boys have different skills, interests and personalities. Childpeace does an excellent job, meeting each child where they are developmentally and socially by designing a unique learning experience that nurtures their individual strengths while addressing weaknesses.
We have found our boys’ guides and assistants to go out of their way to make time to meet with us, answer questions and serve as a terrific resource for extending the classroom experience to our home.
Finally, Childpeace hires and retains the absolute best people who often consider working at Childpeace to be a dream job. This love of the school shines through in every interaction.

We are new to the area and were extremely lucky to have Childpeace have an opening for our 6^th grade son. Because we moved from out of state and had a lot of changes for our son, it was important that we found a school with a format he was familiar with.
To say our family has felt welcome is an understatement. We’ve been welcomed with open arms and our son is the happiest he has been in a long time. The families in the community have made sure to include our son in extracurricular activities, and sleepovers. There is a great sense of community within the Childpeace family.
The teachers are great and I love that there is a great mix of male and female teachers as well as a good ratio of boys to girls.
The communication has been great, we always know what is going on. I am glad the school goes through Middle School which will help our son’s transition to a new state even better.

I’ve been here for four years now and am very happy here. But more importantly, so are my kids. They are both quite different temperamentally, both have very different challenges and gifts, and yet both flourish here. They’re self-​confident, self-​directed, kind, thoughtful, and deeply curious and I credit much of that to the school.
Childpeace has an excellent and vetted Montessori curriculum, devoted teachers, and a strong parent community. Any small quibbles I have are greatly overshadowed by the school’s many strengths.

Also, I noticed that as of this writing there are many hidden positive reviews. Not sure why they aren’t on the main page as I recognize many of the names as being real parents. It doesn’t seem quite fair that one sour parent should tilt the rating so, especially as it doesn’t seem like this parent was on board with Montessori education to begin with.

Our daughter is a fifth grader at Childpeace (she started in the 1^st grade) and we’ve been tremendously thrilled with the school. I feel the school is a true partnership in her eduction. Our daughter is also extremely shy and struggles with finding ways to participate in groups, and making new friends. The school has nurtured her and built her confidence and today she doesn’t hesitate having to speak in front of the whole school — something we thought impossible. On the academic front, the Montessori education has given her a true love for learning, and the tools she needs to tackle any challenge.

Our family has been at Childpeace for over 3 years, with two daughters currently in the Elementary program. We have been consistently impressed with the talented and dedicated teaching staff, and have enjoyed being a part of the wonderful community of parents who volunteer their time and talents. The learning environments for all ages are incredibly rich and student-​centered. In the Elementary years, our daughters are learning to work collaboratively as well as independently, are given the time they need to explore a topic to fruition, and are developing their creativity and respect for others alongside their strong academic knowledge. The school is helping to foster a life-​long love of learning and a strong sense of self for both of our children. We highly recommend it.

It looks good and has a line to get in, but, I cannot say we had a positive experience at Childpeace. We gave it two years (1^st & 2^nd grade). We found the the head of the school to be all smiles, but very passive aggressive and defensive to any insights, concerns, or input.
Some teachers are great, my daughter got a stinker. A cold fish who would not let herself think outside of the box. I realized that Montessori is not for every child and private school does not mean good school. There were many families doing educational enrichment programs outside of school to fill the gaps in academics. Not a good sign. I met many families who were unhappy there but felt that there were not any better choices out there, or waiting for the right time to break away. Isn’t it interesting how you never get to speak with these parents at the Open Houses?:)
I could walk away saying my daughter learned to write in cursive beautifully and still does two years after leaving. We loved the Art Run! Really fun. The volunteer community is quite impressive and savvy. Good luck to you! You may have a better outcome than we did. We are thrilled that we moved on to another school.

We recently moved to Portland and knew that Montessori was the type of schooling we wanted for our daughter since we wanted her to become more independent and confident. I began the search and chose Childpeace since it offers preschool, elementary and middle school. After our first year, we have noticed a tremendous difference in our daughter’s confidence and her desire to learn. We would highly recommend Childpeace to any family who is looking for that Montessori education.

We have two children at Montessori. Both started at 3yrs of age and our oldest is now in the 5^th grade. Through out our 8 years there we are continually amazed at how our children are not only growing academically but how they are developing into confident, caring young people. The children love to learn and learn respect for one another. I am continually amazed at how smart our kids are in natural sciences, math and current events. We absolutely love the Montessori style of education and this school is fantastic.
