Love it, my favorite in all of Portland! Been going there for years and they’re never disappointed. Great service, great food, amazing prices always a treat!

Just sitting down and looking over the menu. Gave the waitress our order and I had a question for her. Somewhat rude, but forgivable. Let’s see where it goes from here. They got the water and hot tea without having to be asked and very quick. The food was brought to our table very fast and the food was excellent. The sesame chicken wasn’t what I thought it was. It came out deep fried. Good service though.

Pretty upset that I got food poisoning from this place. Ordered the fried shrimp and egg flower soup, and 4 – 5 hours later I started having intense stomach cramps and it all went downhill from there. This was the only thing I had eaten since breakfast(cereal) so I know it was the Chinese food. The ambience and service were okay, but I wouldn’t come here again because obviously their food storage or prep is unsafe.

I really like this place — not disappointed yet! Togo orders are HUGE! Dining in is good — occasionally a little slow to order but overall great Chinese food.

The best Chinese food on eastside by far family owned and operated service can be a little slow at times. They are very busy most the time at dinner hours especially. The food and portions are worth the wait.

Very delicious. I’m a huge fan of how prompt and hot the food arrived. I’m consistent with my Chinese food order: crab puffs and almond chicken. Their crab puffs are definitely up to par and I’m thrilled at how many arrived with the portion. My almond chicken wasn’t the best I’ve had, with it being a little too crunchy and stingy on the gravy. Otherwise, the texture and taste of the gravy to chicken ratio was great. My spouse ordered pork fried rice and BBQ pork and was as happy as a clam. Very hot and tasty. I’m willing to go again and get General Tsao.

Ordered three lunch specials. Broccoli beef, Mongolian beef and sweet and sour shrimp. All very flavorful and big pieces of beef. Good spring rolls. Will definitely be eating here again.

The food was incredibly delicious! The service was also great. I had the number seven and my husband had the number 10. My food consisted of an egg roll, fried shrimp, pork fried rice, sweet and sour pork, and chicken lo mein. My husband had sweet and sour pork, pork fried rice, and an egg roll. The portions were huge! I didn’t even eat a quarter of my plate, but I am full. They definitely give you enough food you have lunch the next day. We will definitely be back, as we have been searching for a good Chinese restaurant since we moved to Portland.

Doesnt look like much from the outside, but true to most Chinese Food Restaurants, they have the best food. Highly recommend their Sesame Chicken… their servings are huge. great friendly people.

Decent at best. Food was out in a matter of minutes so it’s safe to assume all the food was made for who knows how long.

This restaurant is in a run down, not so clean building. However, we figured alot of the best Chinese restaurants are, right? The service was THEWORST. I’m guessing that the one waitress they had must have been the owner’s wife but she is so past xaring that it’s not even funny. She wasn’t friendly, took forever to come take our order, and once our food came, she never came back to check on us. The only saving grace for this place is that whoever is in the back cooking actually seens to care. Our food was excellent. However, don’t expect to receive the egg flower soup as promised with the lunch special when you dine in because it didn’t happen for us or anyone else that day. Lucky for this place, the food is good because the service was the absolute worst.

I’ll say this right up front: China Star is NOT better than Golden Dynasty. A good friend said it was, we obviously have very different tastes in Chinese food. Service was lacking right up front. We were waved in to find our own seats and menus took several minutes to make it the 7 feet to our table. We ordered combinations that should have come with soup, but didn’t, and we had to ask for soup. We wanted beer but they were out of the only bottled beer we would drink, Tsing Tao. Everything we ordered that was«fried» from sesame chicken to shrimp was ¾th batter and grease and ¼ meat. Other low points included moderately dry barbecued pork and spear ribs that might have been better called, «bone and tenon ribs». Highlights were that the BBQ pork was good flavored and not overly sweet. The pork chow mein was flavorful and had a lot of ground pork in it. The egg foo young was good and had lots of veggies and pork, and a very favorable gravy. The fried sesame chicken good, not dry, but like with everything fried, thick batter, small pieces of meat. Large portions, huge in fact. But where was the tea? What kind of Chinese restaurant doesn’t serve tea? My fortune from my fortune cookie read«You will be rewarded for being a good listener. Accept the gift.» I listened to a friend who recommended China Star. The reward was that i learned to stick with Golden Dynasty for better Chinese food.

Pre-GMO/Gluten/MSG paranoia-style red gooey sweet and sour sauce, fried rice and artfully folded crap puffs. Nice waitress, clean restaurant. Why not? Green Bean chicken was great, and not too greasy.

The General Tso’s Chicken was good. The portion was huge, so I made two full meals out of it. Also, the place is clean and the food was reasonably priced($ 6.95).

SUPER disappointed in this place. We used to go there regularly and were friendly with the staff. Haven’t been in a while because we moved and I just called to place an order because it sounded good. Apparently, the menu has changed and the once friendly server was awful to me on the phone. She would not help me place my order at all. When I asked if they had a menu online she told me they didn’t and she was busy with a table and hung up on me. Sad. I enjoyed there food, but I will never go back.

Great prices, huge portions! The crab puffs are my favorite… Not too fishy tasting like some others I’ve tasted. I usually get the #8 and share with my husband. I will always come back here.

The meal portions are huge and most importantly delicious. I was amazed at the incredibly low price for the amount of tasty food we recieved. The only real improvement needed was the service, which was not bad. The waitress/host wasn’t very attentive or friendly, ie the perpetual scowl on our waitress’ face. I’m not sure if it was due to her general demeanor/mood or rather the language barrier. We highly recommend this restaurant. It is a definite must for anyone seeking great Chinese food!

The atmosphere is greatly improved since the remodel. Clean and fresh. My chicken with green beans was flavorful and enormous for a lunch portion. If you like to control salt and sugar intact, the broccoli chicken is perfect with the sauce on the side. I love that they use white meat chicken in their dishes. Even the bbq pork is the leaner white meat of the pork. Veggies used are fresh and top quality. There is now a bar area, too.

Absolutely some of the best Chinese food I’ve ever had! The fried shrimp, bbq pork, spring rolls, and crab puffs… OMG the crab puffs are amazing!!! Home made as well… nothing crunchy and stale about these darlings! They are bursting with flavor and a must have if you are into crab puffs. I got the pineapple chicken, and my ex husband got the sweet and sour tofu. Both were wonderful choices. I will be back. The atmosphere inside was very clean, well put together, and the staff was friendly. EVERYONE said good bye and good night as we left. It kinda felt like we were family. They know hospitality here.
