Have been here twice several months apart hoping I could write a good review of a simple little coffee shop here in the St. Johns area but I cannot. The barista or in this case the coffee maker guy was very distant and seemed put off having to do some work making coffee both times. The second time I went there I asked to have the coffee for drinking while in the shop but he wanted to put it in a cardboard cup. He said that is what they had while I pointed at the ceramic cups on top of the espresso machine. Reluctantly he did put my American into the cup I had pointed out. The scone ordered with the coffee was mealy and floury tasting but I was able to finish it. This is really a one star review but the shop is nicely painted and has casual seating which is probably worth a second star. They do have an espresso machine now though.

A very sweet coffee shop with great service and the BESTSCONESYOUWILLEVERHAVE! The owner makes them daily and they are so good. The chai lattes are great and you couldn’t find a better SMO(small biz owner) to support.

I go to Coffeebox when i’m on my way to the dog park and want a quick cup to take with. I wish he had a few more food/treat options other than just the scones(or maybe i just always happen to go there on scone days?!) like muffins or even bagels. I only gave 4 stars, i had to, and i know espresso machines are expensive, but, shoot, do yourself a favor… this is Portland, you just gotta have espresso drinks! The guys who owns the joint is nice, if not a little awkward to talk to, but its always a pleasant interaction. I wish him good luck… cough…get an espresso machine… cough…

I have over 10 places to buy coffee within walking distance of my house. I almost always choose the Coffeebox. They are exactly what I want from a coffee shop. Stumptown coffee and Foxfire teas. Beans for sale. Extra yummy freshly made savory scones(bacon cheddar, thank you very much) and other baked goods. In the summertime, they sell the world’s yummiest iced tea. Oh, and the owner is a very nice man– not too surly and not too friendly. Exactly what I need in the morning.
