Costco Custom Decorators

do NOT get your blinds through Costco. I cannot say it better than a previous reviewer — these guys flat out suck in EVERY way. we ordered our blinds 6 months ago. they came to measure. not sure what they measured as when the blinds arrived they discovered — after 3 hours of trying to install — that they were the wrong measurements. they went away and left less than half the blinds installed and no single room had all the blinds in place. 6 months of chasing them — through hunter douglas, custom decorators, costco — absolutely no help. there is no direct number to reach CD — you call and sit on hold forever and no one answers. you leave a number to call back on and they don’t call. They communicated with us through wrong numbers and emails no matter how many times we gave them the correct details and when they dud use the right number it was only to say that ‘they were coming’ and they left no number to call back on.
This has been the single worst customer service experience ever — and i repeat — DO NOT get your blinds through Costco Custom Decorators.

These guys flat out suck in every way. I could re-​hash everything that the other reviewers posted, or you could trust the barrage of negative reviews. The send you stuff you don’t order, forget to send the stuff you did order, are slow returning calls, and do not appear to have any organization whatsoever.

I have had the worst customer service experience for the last 5 months with this company. I too used the Costco link. The salesman canceled twice before finally making his appointment. We order 6 shades, including a blackout shade for the bedroom.
This was September 1^st. 2.5 months later (yes!) the installer arrived and put them all up. Then I noticed, not him, that the shades were of 2 different colors, none the correct patter. Also the office shade was too big and the blackout shade had 3 holes in it.
It took another month for the salesperson to return, re-​measure and submit the order. Repeated calls to their customer service department went unreturned or «we don’t know responses.
The installer received the shades December 19^th and is to install them today, January 15. His was scheduled to arrive at 9 a.m. It is now 12:30 p.m. and he called at 11 to say he is on his way.
Absolutely the very worst customer experience ever.

Do not give your money to these people. I found out from the installer that Costco, a company I like, just cancelled their contract with Custom Decorators.
Custom Decorators still has deals with Home Depot and Macy’s though — beware.
Here’s my short story: we started our order with Custom Decorators on May 28. It is Oct 25 today. The job is still not complete.
Of the 3 shutters that were installed, 2 are were not installed correctly. The others were built incorrectly and had to be redone, 3 times!
Even though it has been so long and I just want the work to be done, I am going to try to get all my money back and buy the shutters elsewhere.

Do your homework before signing the contract.
My review is purely based on the price quote I received as I did not chose to go with them for my shutters. I used the Costco link to find a quote for some Hunter Douglas blinds as well as a some plantation shutters since we didn’t know which way we wanted to go yet. We are in California but the local rep for Custom Decorators came out to give us a quote. Thinking, «this is Costco, the pricing has to be aggressive», but when I got the quote, I almost fell over. The designer was nice and everything but their pricing was far from something anyone should just sign on the spot since they were more than 2X higher than the next bid! They quoted me a little over $ 19,000 without taxes and installation for plantation when the next guy quoted me $ 8,500 OUT THE DOOR! Exact same shutters because they were a Hunter Douglas reseller as well!
Just do some price comparison before you commit. This could be an isolated issue in Southern California but better safe than sorry.

These guys are first class idiots. they change the pricing after singing the contract, do not deliver in the promised time frame and lastly whatever they deliver is incorrect in sizing/​specifications.
They claim things that they cannot deliver and it’s only a circus, just a bit more disorganized. Deserves a negative rating

one star because I have to: Awful, at least the vendor they use in San Diego for carpet purchases and installation. From the beginning terrible communication (I spent more energy tracking them down and it appeared they did not want my business), the original installation was unprofessional, and now 7 months later having problems with the product and the installation and the rep won’t return my calls and the intallation company is sending out an installer (read: the owner will not come near his product) to ‘assess’ the problem. So not worth any saving; worst home product purchase I’ve ever made (after owning homes for 30+ years).

Used Costco Custom Decorators! What a mistake! I placed the order back in ⁷⁄₂₀₁₁. Today (2÷8÷2012) I still do not have the correct product! The Customer Service representatives that you have to deal with are horrible! So. $ 1200 dollars later… still without window coverings… after 7 different appointments over many months… having to juggle my schedule… appointment time windows of 2 to 3 hours… having to use two different installation companies… so much headache and time spent on the phone trying to strighten things out… Warning… DO NOT USE COSTCO CUSTOM DECORATORS! I reported this to Costco. and to the BBB! They are going to reimburse me for he product… but they said they would run the reimbursement only after I gave them the poorly measured product back, leaving me without window coverings on a East facing bedroom window! I already disposed of the previous window coverings! Only after stating that I would have my attorney contact them did they agree to let me keep the poorly measured window covering that looks terrible in our bedroom and lets the sun in! FRUSTRATING! What a mistake to use Costco’s Custom Decorators! I was told my reimbursement would take up to 2 weeks!

My mom recently purchased new blinds for her house through Costco. I’ve helped her through the process as it’s been a complete NIGHTMARE! It began when they sent someone to measure the blinds and he measured incorrectly. That’s right… the installers showed up with a giant blind for her den and it didn’t fit. So now we have to wait a few more weeks while the blinds are redone. So imagine our shock when they showed up a 2^nd time and the blinds STILL DIDN’T FIT. Not so much as an apology from the installers. All the while, my mom has a new sofa, no blinds, and the sun beating down on the sofa throughout the day.
So it only took 3 times for them to get it right, but finally they fit after returning 2 weeks later. During the waiting period, I tried to discusss some sort of credit for my mom’s inconvenience and frustration. They said that they wouldn’t discuss any credits until after the blinds were installed. Of course, they billed my mom in the very beginning, as soon as she placed the order.
So any guesses as to whether or not my Mom ever received her promised $ 250 credit (not much of a credit in my opinion, considering the magnitude and time delay)? Of course not. I called as soon as the blinds were installed and they were going to process the credit. I had to call weeks later because my mom never received it and they said there was an error and it wasn’t processed. They promised it would be sent to my mom in a week.
Guess what? Never came in a week and I JUST called them and they said that it was sent yesterday. I’m starting to think that they are simplying lying to me. They said today that they have no record of the initial request, only the request placed shortly before Halloween.
This company is as bad as it gets… plain and simple. In my opinion, they should have credited my mom for 50%… but they gave her about a 15% discount. They are telling me yet another week again for the credit. If it doesn’t come, I am contacting both Costco and BBB.
On the plus side, blinds look nice, but she could have had a much better experience had she gone elsewhere for them.
