Division Smiles

I took time out of my work week to come to this practice as a new patient. I specifically requested a cleaning, and was told by the receptionist «no problem we can get everything done» when I booked the appointment. So I was expecting plenty of time for an exam with X-​rays, plus a cleaning and discussion on whitening methods with the dentist.
Instead, the X-​rays and exam took so long that I was told after being there almost an hour that I would have to come back for the cleaning another day. I only spoke to the dentist briefly before he looked at his watch and rushed off to the next patient. I was not given a chance to ask questions about my exam results, or to talk to the dentist about the in-​house whitening option* listed on their website. I was literally hustled out the door so they could squeeze the next patient into their day.
I would never schedule an annual exam with a physician and be told that only part of the service could be completed and to come back another day for the rest. That doesn’t exist in the medical world. Which is why this dental practice gets 1 star. If they valued new patient time and scheduled correctly instead of cramming their schedule with patients, all services could have been completed today and this review would read quite differently. Instead, I’ve gone back online and found another dentist, Terwilliger Dental, which will provide an exam and cleaning when I visit them next month. The lady I spoke to on the phone at Terwilliger was surprised that Division Smiles didn’t complete the cleaning same-​day. I’m surprised too!
*As a side note, they don’t offer in-​house whitening (I asked the receptionist as I was checking out) so this is a misleading service listed on their website.

I walked in and was immediately greeted by name from the front staff before even walking up to the desk. The dental hygienist, Erin, who cleaned my teeth/​took x rays was extremely welcoming and friendly, and explained what she was doing through the whole process. Dr. Kim was very personable, while maintaining a professional demeanor, and sharing his multitude of knowledge. Definitely would recommend Division Smiles to everyone!

I am writing this review for a visit that was about a month ago. The overall experience was very pleasant. I was recommended by this place by a close friend who has been visiting Dr. Kim in the past. The most important thing I look for in any health organization when I go in for treatment or consultation is if they make me feel and treat me like a human being. I’ve been to many different doctors in the Portland area and the ones that I’ve been to, I get the impression that I am just a number to them. I don’t know about other people but if I go seek consultation or treatment, I don’t want to feel like another number!
This is where Division Smiles and Dr. Kim sets themselves apart from other practices that I’ve been to. The warmth of the receptionist, to the hygienist and Dr. Kim makes me feel very comfortable and at ease when they work on my teeth.
I went to Division Smiles for a regular cleaning, whitening trays, and to fix a chip on my teeth. With every procedure the staff was very competent and friendly. Whenever I asked them a question, they were able to help me understand what they were doing and what I could do better so that some of these issues I have don’t reoccur.
This practice is not infallible. There are certainly some things they could do better in. In particular is modernizing the waiting and patient rooms. The good news is that my last visit, they were in the process of getting new furniture for the reception area and beginning to re-​paint the walls in the patient room to make it more inviting.
When I go look for someone else to take care of my health, the most important things I look for is if they are competent and if they treat me with outstanding service. I believe that Division Smiles does this and I recommend others to give it a shot.

I came here a few weeks ago for a cleaning and had a great experience! I wasn’t sure what to expect coming in but was warmly welcomed by Dr. Kim and his staff. They were very friendly and pleasant to talk to. The office environment had a classic but modernized style and was very laid back. I was told this was Dr. Kim’s first private practice after working for another office downtown so he took extra care and time to make his patients are happy.
This was the first time I didn’t feel any pain during my cleaning as the hygienist was very careful around my receding gum line (this makes my teeth very sensitive!). Dr. Kim then followed up with me to fix a botched crown from my previous dentist… another pain free experience!
They also had a special for professional teeth whitening that was actually cheaper and worked better than those whitening strips I purchased in the store.
After my visit I referred Dr. Kim to my friends and family, those who went had the same great experience (my uncle even drove down from Beaverton to see him!). I will definitely be back!

After not going to a dentist in years my teeth were overdue for a cleaning. Their hygenist made sure she didn’t miss a spot and she didn’t slice and dice my gums along the way like some other places I’ve been. Dr. Kim was also very friendly and made me more comfortable than other dentists. I went back to get teeth pulled and even that wasn’t too bad there. I’ve had teeth pulled before, but those dentists always slipped with their tools causing pain.
Dr. Kim was very professional and didn’t seem to hate life which can be hard to find in a dentist. I mean, I understand why they’re bitter. They’re barely doctors amirite? Also they have cool doggy butt coat hangers and a boquet of dum dum suckers. Will go back in the future. Exterior could use some work, but theres no complains about the inside.
