Breakfast on the weekend is always good. Straight forward good good with basic tastes. American style small frills. Good atmosphere.

It’s futuristic, cabin in the woods type of feel gives it a really relaxing atmosphere. The food is really appetizing and elegant and their cocktails are almost as «out of this world» as their décor!

I really enjoyed this place. Came on a Saturday early evening for happy hour with a group of friends. We sat outside because it was perfect weather out. Their outdoor space is really nice and feels private with all the bamboo separating it. The bartender was very nice and helped create two drinks for me just by telling him what I liked. My friends got half priced tots for happy hour and I tried some and they were hot crispy and good. Everyone enjoyed their drinks and the atmosphere. I would definitely come back here on another warm day and just sit outside all day. Very relaxing start to an evening!

Drenched in mysterious neon and rustic mountain lodge overtones, Doug Fir is a Lynchian phantasmagoria with perfect, if pricey, drinks. The Spanish Coffee was exceptionally tasty, and its creation is startling and profound to behold… the regal, quaffed bartenders throw fire from glass to glass. Service can be a little icy, but make no mistake: these Firers know how to make some world class cocktails. There is a grand patio as well. Though the flames aren’t lumber-​based, they are pleasant on a cold Portland night. This is a fantastic, surreal establishment. A beautiful relic from a fever dream. Everyone should experience it.

As excited as I was to experience this establishment, that apparently has great live music, I was turned away at the door due to the fact they would not accept my new and valid Australian drivers license. I am 35 years old and did not have my passport on me. Terrible form if you ask me, I will not be returning.

Favorite venue for live music.
Why? Sound and atmosphere. I’ve been here many times to watch a variety of genres and always enjoy it.
The outdoor patio is also great when you need a break or just want to meet up with friends.
I’ve only been in the dining room for food once and it was good too.

Doug Fir you are difficult to score. The music space downstairs has good acoustics but feels Spartan. Upstairs by contrast is cool. Its an old motor hotel restaurant redone like the Jetsons had a log cabin. There is even a nice patio with a fire!
The food is always good and I say that despite the fact that they no longer serve the hazelnut shake!
Add to that the staff is always nice to me… Sounds five star right? The problem is they like to do weird stuff. What restaurant cards everyone at happy hour? Me, a couple that looked to be able n their 70s… And what happened to the lights? Also it feels odd to prepay for happy hour food… it’s not that busy! Also only place I go that does that to me..
So I come here about once a year and think how easy it would be to make me a regular…

Ordered a toasted bagel with cream cheese, smoked salmon, red onion and capers. Sort of received something akin to it… I guess.
So, I’ll include instructions on how to make this dish because I feel complaining will be viewed as just being «whiney».
Please follow these instructions in the order they appear, otherwise nothing will change and the same problem will occur.
Step 1: cut bagel.
Step 2: toast bagel.
As for the remainder of the dish, maybe not so much filler garnish. Nobody needs a gold beet steak. Try fresh red onions and ask your salmon delivery company for their smoked salmon.
Why a whole 2 stars, though? The hostess was very understanding and as helpful as she could be.

Doug Fir is by far one of my favorite venues in the Pacific Northwest. Combining the rustic, cabin feel of the great outdoors with all the modern amenities of a lounge and concert venue, this is the perfect place to go whether you’re trying to impress a first date, catching up with friends, or just looking to grab a beer & bite to eat.
With stiff drinks, yummy nachos, & a few hidden nooks and crannies (plus an outdoor fire pit) for sneaking away from the crowds, I can’t say I’ve ever had a bad night at Doug Fir.
Bonus: there’s also a black & white photo booth outside, in case you’re looking to drunkenly document your night.

One of my favorite venues in the USA. Amazing sound, and a nice intimate basement concert stage. Up top expect great comfort food and friendly attentive staff, and yes, you will meet tourists staying at the hotel from all over the world and California. We met people from Spain, France, and most of Califas here, and I must say that I often take my out of town visitors here to see any band that is playing since people love the space, love the sound, and are usually happy to catch a show from an established or new act.
Great setup, and great service make this a Portland mainstay.

This place makes you feel like you are in a cabin. The scene is pretty chill and relaxing. There’s a fireplace and outdoor seating area. Drinks are fairly inexpensive. There’s always some sort of band preforming downstairs.

Friendly server, delicious food, stylishly furnished.
I enjoyed the Columbian Scramble (I think? The one with salmon?) and my boyfriend inhaled the lumberjack breakfast with a biscuit. It was incredible. Will absolutely go back for breakfast one day. Film photo booth outside was very cool, we nabbed a 4-​frame session before we left town.

Hands down one of my favorite spots in Portland. Great food in the restaurant, particularly great brunch that never has much of a wait (rarity in PDX), and great burger.
Such a great atmosphere with the log cabin theme, dim lighting, cozy fireplace, and awesome patio, especially if you can grab a seat at the back patio fire pit.
It is also one of the best music venues I’ve been to in all the world, and always has amazing artists come through. The Jupiter hotel is also a cool spot to stay — and if you want a room after midnight on a weekday — they’re discounted.
Just be careful about the upstairs bathrooms and hallway towards them. Those mirrors will getchya.

Love this venue. It’s décor is one of a kind and that paired with the intimate size and big name acts make it a place that I’ll always go to when I have the chance. Beers are cheap $ 6 and there is seating if you want to sit. Sort of cold in here which is good because they do not have a coat check and also strangely they do not have covered bike parking. Booooooo

This review is for the downstairs concert area only.
It was my first time at Doug Fir’s and I have to say it wasn’t bad. Check in was simple, show ID, get stamped, show ticket, get stamped again. Walking downstairs to the area it looked like someone’s garage basement circa 1976: lots of wood, light up floors, and pretty dark. I only ordered one drink which was cheap. The crowd was upbeat and well mannered. What I don’t get is that people don’t understand personal space. If I have to question whether you’re grinding on me because you like me or because you don’t give a hoot, I may have to slap you.

Doug Fir Lounge is the one-​stop shop for anyone in Portland who loves food, drinks, and live music. Which is most Portlanders. In fact, I’m pretty sure it’s a requirement to love at least two of those three if you want to live within the Portland city limits.
Anyway, Doug Fir has a restaurant on the main floor that serves some delicious fare. The meatloaf has been a standout dish in my experience so far. The beer selection is a little weak, but sufficient. Even so, the low key atmosphere — reinforced by the log cabin interior and cozy lighting — and tasty grub make this a great place grab dinner and/​or wait out the opener before a show downstairs.
The concert venue on the basement level is a great setup. Small enough that you’ll be close to the stage no matter where you stand, but large enough to attract some great acts. Also, the bar in the back is always accessible and not a complete cluster like at some venues. I’ll end this review just like I started it — if you’re in Portland and a fan of live music and tasty food then the Doug Fir is a must-​visit.

I decided it was time to update this one after last night’s experience dining here. I like you, Doug Fir, I really do, but you need to try harder. I’ve had great happy hour experiences at Doug Fir: tasty drinks, yummy, discounted food, the bartenders are generally friendly. Last night, my partner and had dinner here for our anniversary as it’s where we actually met for our first date. The ambiance was still spot on: very home-​y and warm, dimmed lighting, etc. The service was pretty good, our waiter was friendly enough and quite efficient. Overall, we had a good time.
But the food and drink. Oh Dougie, it was just sort of so-​so. Our drinks were very weak, my vodka and cran tasted like I was just drinking some cranberry juice. For dinner, I had the candied bacon burger, which was actually very good, the toppings were quite tasty and it was juicy. I do feel the meat could have been better, not the best I’ve had for sure. The fries were extremely average and not that exciting, this is coming from someone who loves fries.
My guy had the crab cake burger. He liked it, but I tasted it and felt it was on the mushy and bland side. Hmmmm… His salad, which I didn’t taste, looked very good, with parmesan shavings and all kinds of yummies.
For dessert, we went for the brownie with ice cream, chocolate sauce and hazelnuts. It was large, but it wasn’t warmed up! What kind of place serves a cold brownie with ice cream? Hello Doug, do you need some ADD meds? Every other place in town serves it warm! Also, the brownie itself was very, very dry, as in, maybe it’s time to make a new batch and toss these out! My partner seemed to get the better half of the brownie and thought it was good. But I was not pleased. The flavors were nice, but cold and dry? Not great.
I still like you, Doug, but I’ll probably stick to your happy hour for now.

Whether you’re here for food or just to see the live music downstairs Doug Fir is one of the best venues in Portland!
Centrally located it is an awesome bar and restaurant and also hosts some of the best emerging and established artists from all over the world!
Food-​wise the service is friendly and the staff know their menu so can help you out if you get stuck (as it is quite large!). I grabbed some tacos and they were delicious as well as being relatively healthy– could not complain at all!
The venue downstairs is kick ass and has a great sound system so the bands sound killer.
Definitely come to Doug Fir AND stay at the Jupiter Hotel so you can party and then stumble home in 3 steps without any main roads in sight.

I can’t believe it took me almost two years of living in Portland to visit the Doug Fir. HANDS DOWN, my favorite music venue. It’s very aesthetically appealing, the people who work here are chill and nice, there’s an outdoors area, the shows are smaller and intimate. It just makes me so happy. To quote my friend Kim: «Before I moved to Portland, this is exactly what I imagined Portland to be like. Hipster heaven.»
I went to see Oh Land (AMAZING artist– look her up!) and for a Do503 party (AMAZING company in Portland, look ‘em up as well).
I WILL BE BACK MANY TIMES.

This place has a good vibe, good people, good drinks. The ladies bathroom is an experience; it’s totally mirrored on every surface, including the stall doors.
Maybe it’s a statement on vanity or cultural pressures. Maybe ladies in Portland just like to look good.
Overall, a cool place.

This place is connected to the hotel we stayed in called the Jupiter Hotel. I am normally reluctant to try places that are connected to a hotel as they are normally cheesy and weak at best. Doug Fir was the total opposite of anything I mentioned.
I checked into the hotel late Wed nite/​early Thurs morning around 2am and the place was rocking as they have an outdoor area for drinking/​congregating. I definitely nodded my head with my hand over my mouth with the notion of being there sometime before I left. Unfortunately we never got the chance to go here for just drinks and having fun, but we did get a chance to have breakfast here before we left. The place is quite dark with mirrors near the entrance and bathrooms which can throw you off if you are mildly hungover LOL. I decided to order the the pastrami hash which was made up of yukon gold potatoes, red and green peppers, onions, pastrami and 2 poached eggs. That dish was mad good to say the least! I dropped a little habanero sauce on it… I believe the brand was called some kind of aardvark… shit was good and enhanced the already tasty hash!
People that work here are pretty nice… highly recommend!

What a great small venue to get intimate with a band. The bands play downstairs where there is actual AC in the place but when you cram over 200 people down there, it’s negligible. It has a retro and woodsy vibe and the place is very clean design. Beers are decently priced and the audio for the show was spot on.
One of the bands that I saw was The Sentiments (Local PDX band) but when you’re a 10 piece band, that stage is a bit crammed, but they sounded great and got the crowd of roughly 125 going for the main event, The Slackers. The crowd got well over 200 by the time they came on stage and with some special guests on stage, they had the the music flowing for close to two hours. Amazing.
As I said, a great small place that you can get close with the band and for these two acts, it was a perfect place to perform.

Not many choices in the menu though! Whatever we ordered came to huge portions. Décor was unique and nice.

Very cool bar/​restaurant/​gig venue combo.
We ate pretty late in the eve (10pm) so we were very happy they were still serving at that hour! The standard burger on brioche was a notch above most diner burgers you find, the salmon excellent, but the bread on the chicken sandwich was pretty average. Two out of three ain’t bad.
Gig space downstairs is laid out pretty well — always appreciate a raised stage, being the partner of a height-​challenged young woman, and sound was great too, but damn it was COLD in there. Somehow colder even that outside! I though bars were supposed to crank the heat to make you drink more, no? They mustn’t have got the memo! ;)

The atmosphere of this place is awesome! Be should to take a trip to the bathroom to check out the décor! Went for lunch and got seated right away. I’d like to go back for drinks in the evening sometime.
