I have always love their Cashew Corn Vegan Pizza for 9 years now. Still good after all these years!

All the food here is freaking amazing. We came here on a Friday afternoon for a late dinner, and were seated immediately. The parking lot is a bit tricky as there are only two spots that you can actually park in for the restaurant — the rest are designated for the shops next door. There is the option to order to go — or eat in. We chose to eat in and service was great — we ordered a kale salad, chocolate chip cookie, and pizza. The pizza we ordered was half and half, half pepperoni and half sausage with grilled bell peppers and onions. The chocolate chip cookie and kale salad came out minutes upon ordering, while the pizza took awhile — as they had to make it. The kale salad was amazing, very simple but extremely delicious. There was a little but of ricotta cheese in the kale to give it some texture and tang in the flavor — definitely a great appetizer before the pizza. The pizza was one of the best pizza’s I have ever had. It’s not quite deep dish — but a nice medium type crust made with cornmeal, very very tasty. The ingredients were definitely very fresh and meshed well on the pizza. I would definitely recommend this place as one of the top pizza joints that I have been to.

Some things just don’t work. Cornmeal crust on pizza is one of those things. Unfortunately, the rest of the pizza was unremarkable, bordering on bland and pricey to boot. There are so many amazing options within walking distance, the only reason to go here is for novelty.

Food is aways excellent, unique, creative, and prepared in a decent time frame. However, I didn’t realize going out to buy 25 dollar pizzas meant you the wait staff(everyone!) would also greet me with a grimace and flippant behavior. If I could replace the wait staff with warmer(perhaps better paid?) individuals who realized their vital impact on customers via their emotive behavior, I would.

We got the kale salad and one pizza — ½ corn and ½ goat cheese. Both were equally amazing. The dough was great but keep in mind, this is not your typical pizza crust, it is made of corn bread so it’s got a little different flavor and isn’t that gooey melty pizza dough we’re accustomed to. Still delicious and 1 pizza was more than enough for 2 adults. Well. Unless it’s 2 very hungry adults, then maybe you’ll need more. There are a few parking spots in front and also parking in nearby neighborhoods which I’m sure the neighbors love. We arrived around 8 and it took about 10 minutes to be seated. It’s a pretty small joint, so I’ve heard it can get busy during prime time, FYI! Great experience and I’m looking forward to coming back!

We love getting delivery from here through Delivery Dudes. My favorite pizza is the vegan cashew. So good! Minus one star for the lack of customer service when calling. I called to ask what kind of olives were on the roasted olive pizza(my husband can’t have normal black olives) and the person who answered refused to find out what kind. She«guess they are Kalamatra». I explained that Kalamata is fine but asked her to make sure and she refused saying something along the lines of «I don’t know what breed it is but it’s not like the kind you get from the grocery store». It’s like DUDEJUSTASK. The amount of time you spend telling me that you DON’T know what it is is WAY more than the amount of time it would’ve taken to ask the chef or a server maybe what kind of olive is used in the pizza.

The cornmeal crust was very gummy, as though it hadn’t been baked long enough. It took a very long time to get our orders, and being in the company of squirrely kids, that’s a major detraction. Like a lot of other organic/vegan/gluten free pizzas, they look absolutely delish… and one or two aspects of the pie is delectable, but the ensemble falls flat. It is extremely hard to find good pizza. It’s one of those things that everyone loves, but equal care needs to go into every aspect of it to be a hit. This place is an expensive miss, and I won’t be back.

* If real men don’t eat quiche then this might be your pizza place. Gourmet pizza, that’s for sure. As much as I do love a fresh take on classic foods, where most attempts fall way to short, this place delivered innovative ingredients and approach In a very picky Portland pizza market. I mean, if a pie with corn and balsamic infused onion on top isn’t outside the pizza box, I don’t know what is, right. To me though, some bites were like eating a quiche* and other bites were like eating a unsweetened pie crust. The crust is heavier than I expected so, when it was a 12″ pie, I was like dang, they’ll be gone in no time at all Well, the slices are thick and 2 slices will fill you up pretty well. I had the Corn pie and the Veggie(I don’t like meat on my pizza) both were good, the Veggie I thought was the better of the two, it just had much more flavor. Even though I’m a thin slice style kinda dude(card carrying member) I do appreciate what Dove Vivi is doing with their pizza and the attention to details on produce and meats does lift my rating for sure.

This is by far my favorite pizza place! Their corneal crust is amazing, filling, and holds its shape if you are going to pick it up. When it arrives, it is still very hot, so I prefer a fork to start. They top it with so many quality ingredients, one slice might do you in. I am normally a thin crust person, but this still has wowed me from the first visit. Each pizza I’ve tried amazes me, so I have a hard time not trying their specials – they never disappoint. They will allow you to split the pizza into two different types and maybe even more. Check out their taster pizza on your first stop to get 3 different kinds(6 large slices total). Oh, and their generous kale salad is one I can’t pass up. I usually share it. Pair it with a great wine or beer. I bring my six year old, and they bring him crayons with a picture. Definitely have never batted an eye at bringing children, which I cannot say about many high-quality restaurants like this one. Kid-friendly. :) Let’s talk about customer service. I’ve only had the pleasure of being served by one waitress, so if there are others, I can’t speak for them. So far, our waitress has a calming and attentive demeanor. She will listen patiently and even offer up small tweaks to the way things are prepared even if it seems impossible just to ensure customers are happy. Checks in frequently and helps explain the differences in choices when you are on the fence about your order. I tell everyone who even mentions pizza to try this place. If you’ve never had cornmeal crust, it’s a must try. If your already know you love corneal crust, you won’t be disappointed.

The Crust Of It All This is my favorite place for pizza in PDX. The marinated olive plate is a nice starter, while we look over the menu with newcomers. The corn meal crust is otherworldly. Being vegan, I always chose the Corn Cashew, adding those savory smoked tomatoes. My meat loving friends have been converted(temporarily) when they taste the lusciousness of this pie, every time. The kale salad, my fave, can be veganized. The pizza isn’t the only thing I love about this place; I love the staff who’s always smiling and giving off positive vibes. I love the sparse décor and open kitchen, with it’s displays of mason jars full of spices and ingredients. The lighting is subdued, which makes everyone look a little better in my opinion. I’ve had dinners with the folks, friends, and romantic meals with my husband . They have a unique selections of beers and wine choose from. That restroom tho… If you blink you might miss it, as its tucked away in a tiny mini mall of sorts. Parking can be tough, as it shares a tiny lot with a couple of businesses.

This place is a treat. Certainly a little more expensive but a real joy for your taste buds in a relaxed quaint setting. The building is unassuming but step in and it’s a wave of good smells and conversation. They’ve done a nice setup with bench seating mixed with chairs and cute table toppers and menus. The corn meal crust is out of this world and they are always happy to half pizzas. So get whatever you like! The desserts are selectively thought out and the menu overall isn’t too overwhelming. My kinda place. The vegan options were stellar tasting and the cheeses were also delectable. I’d say give yourself a special night with a friend or partner here. Walkable from plenty of great things around like the Laurelhurst or Everett House.

We got this last night through Delivery Dudes and it was fantastic My all time favorite pizza is the one I make at home, which really isn’t hard, just a bit messy, and it requires a hot oven, fresh yeast and some patience. Forgive me if I’ve spelled her name wrong, but Lynne Rosetto Kasper and her books about simple frugal Italian country cooking taught me how to make an easy, thin, satisfyingly authentic(I guess?) crust with a minimum of toppings and its the recipe I always return to but this is not a review of my damn cooking. So, I have this English husband, and over there, they put weird stuff on pizza. I mean really weird. Tuna. Corn. Chicken tikka. For reals. I’ll just let you take that in for a sec. So, in an attempt at marital harmony, I have, over the years done the corn and tuna thing on HIS pizza. I have simple cheese. I use really good tuna in olive oil and all that but still. Weird, right? It makes him happy, so of course its worth it. Imagine my surprise when looking through Dove Vivi’s menu that there is an option for a pizza with balsamic marinated onions, and corn on their superb cornmeal crust! Oh yeah, sold. It sounded so good, I even thought I’d try it but I got a cheese pizza as well just in case it was not my cup of tea. Or slice of pizza. Whatever. Ok, so this was brilliant. Really really good. Loved the onions, loved the corn and the crust. As a delivered pizza it arrived steaming hot and I almost liked it as much as mine. As far as tuna, I didn’t see that as an option, and Its never going to happen on my plate. Great dinner, thanks DV, I promise I had one very happy husband. If you haven’t yet been here, do go, try something different, they make the effort to make your adventure out of the safe zone, truly worth it.

I went into Dove Vivi with high hopes. People had raved about their amazing pizza for months and after a long and arduous day of wine tasting, a beautifully done pizza sounded just perfect. My friends and I went in late saturday night and we were met w the least enthusiastic staff I’ve ever experienced. It felt like we were imposing on their busy and exciting lives with our outrageous requests for food and drink in exchange for money. «yeah» was a standard response to «thank you» and eye contact seemed to be strictly forbidden. When the server dropped off our check, she told us to «have a good…» and walked off. Again no eye contact. No smiles. No eye contact. Rude and disinterested servers. All for pizza that’s not as good as Apizza Scholls or Ken’s Artisan Pizza. I won’t be coming back.

My husband walked a little over a block away from my parents’ house, after mom died, so my family and I can have our last meal on their porch, which was my favorite place part of the house. I can’t believe that it is one of Portland’s 10 Best Pizza Places. Because that was 7 years ago, we have not eaten there or ordered out again, because they’re miles from our home, but I will update when we do.

Their pizza is unique & very good, but after 2 visits, I can only go here for take-out. As a former server, nothing can be more frustrating than a server with a blasé attitude. On our second visit, one of my friends asked what the chef’s special slices were, & his reply was along the lines of, «Yeah, uh, the specials are whatever on the board over there.» Can you not jot the specials down on a little slip of paper to keep on your pad, or– God forbid– review the specials before you walk over to your table so you can recite them if necessary? You know, like every other server everywhere else? Again, great food, & a simple, good beer & wine list, but unless you’d like to dine in a room that looks like it was built solely for a Kinfolk magazine shoot & be served by aloof hipsters, maybe call in & take it home.

Loved the kale salad and service. Also really liked the novelty of getting once slice of every pizza available aka the Chef’s Special. Awesome for sharing! Crust was solid but I wasn’t into the toppings, the pizza really having on chunky toppings(i.e. big pieces of tomatoes). Not my thing, but so worth a visit still!

You know, after eating leftovers for a whole week it occurred to me that the pizza is actually not all that bad. Also if you take into account how filling it is, it’s not terrible value either. So in fairness I can up to a four. I’m just not a big fan of the crust.

Seriously one of the best meals of my life. I am a huge pizza monster, and I’ll admit, when I saw the deep dish looking crust, I was hesitant. I love traditional Italian thin crust style– but wow. Really really good. So filling as well! I am vegetarian and was convinced I could never go vegan because of my love for pizza, but after tonight I could do it. I had the corn cashew vegan pie w smoked tomatoes and the kale salad– both were heavenly. Thank you so much, Dove vive!

I like normal pizza, and I do not usually like cornmeal products(corn bread, tortillas… etc. though I will crush some Cheetos), so I was skeptical of this place with its cornmeal crust and its small scale. I thought it would probably be overpriced with small portions and only weird ingredients to choose from. That was not the case. I got my pizza with normal ingredients(sausage, peppers, mozza, marinara) and it was phenomenal! Plus three slices filled me up and I had some to give away and take home. I loved this place. It was the best«regular» specialty pizza I’ve ever had. I will be back.

Very good pizzas. We tried the chef’s selection, where the chef chooses 6 different slices for you and makes a pizza for you. I would recommend this for everyone, and if you are vegetarian then they can do a vegetarian version of it also. The thing that they did, for which I would actually make this 4.5 stars if I could, was that they cut each slice into two parts as I mentioned to them that I was sharing with my wife. This made sharing super easy and fun. The cornmeal crust was amazing. For the purists who love thin crust pizzas(I also love thin crusts but love trying something new) might not like it but I liked the thicker crunchy crust for a change. Of the six pizzas that we tried our order of preference is: pesto, pepperoni, Toscana(special of the day), sausage, wild mushroom(special of the day) and formaggio. We would definitely come back here for some more pizza.

While the cornmeal crust is hardly traditional, I might have just found my favorite pizza in all of Portland! This adorable little shop off the corner of 28th and Glison is twee as can be, but when you serve up a pizza this amazing, I don’t even mind. Being in Portland, of course they have vegan and gluten free pizza offerings, but I was in the market for their regular pie. Each 12″ pizza runs for $ 23.75, and while that price might seem a bit high, the thick, dense cornmeal crust promises to fill you up. The menu has ten regular offerings plus a couple of specials. All look amazing. I did a ½ and ½ combo. One one side, the corn pizza: mozzarella, smoked mozzarella, balsamic marinated roasted red onions, fresh sweet corn and chives. I added sausage($ 1.50/$ 3.00 for half/whole). On the other the Toscano, which has mozzarella, blue cheese, salami and heirloom tomatoes. Both sides were fantastic. No, they were effing fantastic. A cool thing this shop offers is a Chef’s choice, which is six random slices of pizza for the same price as any of their whole pies. I’d love to do this some day to really take the menu for a test drive. I also want to try a couple of their salads. The table next to us ordered the kale salad and it looked ridiculously good. This isn’t «whoa, I’m drunk» pizza. This is «I’m feeling fancy!» pizza. You should eat some soon.

Heavenly pizza! The crust is phenomenal — delicious cornmeal and substantial enough to really hold its own against the generous toppings. The elote pizza blew my mind: corn, cotija, poblano peppers, with smokey mayo and even more different cheese melting together for the perfect combo! The other specials looked awesome too and were certainly creative combinations. Be prepared for a wait!

I love pizza. tried making it twice. Like pizza in a lot of styles. This stuff is great, Being different doesn’t hurt, the corn meal base. seems more like a pie crust crossed with crossed with corn bread, not yeasted like most pizza dough. Works great. Had halves of 4 different pies all very tasty. The special featuring tasso ham & caramelized onions was everyone’s favorite. fennel sausage with peppers another fave. you might not be able to go wrong. Wish the beer selection a little wider(beer geek that I am.) Service down right enthusiastic. Weather was good and we had a table outside, celebrating my birthday.

I’ve been here 3 times, so I feel like I gave DV a solid go. My opinion is that this place is way overhyped, riding on it’s own coat tails and the stellar reviews from the past. No one working here is particularly friendly, in fact, I’d go so far as to say they are quite snobbish. After my to-go piece of pizza(ordered last night) costing nearly $ 5 with the side/edge burnt, I think it’s safe to say it’ll be my last.

You’ll never taste any pizza anywhere quite like it. That good! And the cornmeal dough makes it special-delicious! Semi-thick, crunch-crunchy crust! Corn dough cooked through. And my favorite foodie line, don’t panic, it’s organic! And you know, no GMO. Thick enough(and did I say crunchy) to hold its pie-delicious pie-shape so you can load lots of seasonal, farm fresh ingredients on it. It won’t collapse in your hand. It’s a 3 – 4 course meal on a single slice. 2 to 3 slices and I’m fully satisfied. One pizza, ½ smoke corn mozzarella and ½ ricotta /housemate pesto fed 2 adults and grandma. Local farmers supply the pork and Dove Vivi does in-house meat curing too. Good wine and beer! Good engaging servers will chat along with you. Fun place. Low key. Hip. Chased it with a homemade moistest ever homemade chocolate chip cookie, on the house cuz we were first timers. For sure, we will be next timers!

I really wanted to like this place since it is so close to home and every time I have walked by it smells delicious and the place is always busy. I eat cornbread about once every two years, so I am not really a big fan. And when I do eat more than a bite, it has to be light and fluffy. The crust on the veggie we got was like lead. I did not finish my piece and the wife and I just scraped off the dry toppings because spending $ 15 on 3 tiny slices of pizza, we needed something. And that brings me to the prices. I don’t get it. A 12″ pizza for $ 23.75? Half a pizza is $ 12(plus tip, $ 15.) It is in a strip mall and is pretty tiny, so the overhead can’t be that much. I understand they are sourcing local ingredients, but how much can local cornmeal cost?

Ordered the Pepperoni and mushroom along with the Beet salad. Enjoyed the heck out of it so much, I forgot to open the beer I had sitting next to my plate. The pizza crust has a great crunch to it. Perfect balance of each topping and not greasy. My girlfriend and I usually pound a whole large pizza at most places on Sunday. We could only get in two slices each on the 12″. Super good and satisfying.

Before I ate at this restaurant, I thought there were three general categories of pizza: Chicago deep dish, giant floppy NYC style triangles, and authentic Italian, super crunchy thin crust. Well, I believe that Dove Vivi has successfully created a 4th category of pizza. The dense cornmeal crust is so delicious, and like nothing I’ve had before. My friend and I got the chef’s special and each of the six pieces were great in their own way. Yum. If only I could find a way to take this place home to Chicago with me… FINE, twist my arm. I’ll just move to Portland.

With the raving over the cornmeal crust, I wouldn’t hold myself back from this place any longer. I love corn meal, corn masa, corn corn corn… and pizza. So going into this, I was expecting to find my one true love. Since we wanted to try as many different flavors in combo with the crust, they had my perfect pizza– Chef’s Choice. 6 different slices of their pizzas!($ 23.75) What?!? The prices are a little up there for a 12 inch pizza, but we were willing to pay in order to experience a never before heard of pizza! The slices included in our Chef’s Choice was pesto, sausage and pepper, pepperoni mushroom, corn, summer squash, and one other I can’t remember. We tasted each of them expecting to find the one that we could fall in love with, but we unfortunately didn’t. Each and every one was on the bland side, and we had 6 of their different pizza flavors… You could say we were bummed. Our conclusion was that we wished the cornmeal crust has its own personality. it was kind of just. THERE. If they had some secret herb/seasoning combination that they put in their crust to make it pop, I think they could have sold me. They could seriously make it SO good! Sadly, it was on the flavorless, gum-rawing side, and even the toppings didn’t bring much to the table. Our favorite had to be pesto, but it was probably because it was the only one that engaged our taste buds :/. I could see why people love this place, though. Cornmeal crust is definitely something that you either fall in love with and swear by, or it is something that doesn’t quite float your boat. For us, it was the latter.
