Eye Department is the premier eye care and eyewear boutique in Portland, Oregon. Eye Department is a patient first eye care facility where each patient receives individualized eye health screenings. Annual eye exams are an important component of healthy living and provide essential baseline information for our Optometrist to diagnose from.

Eye Department provides full scope medical eye exams that go well beyond simple vision refraction and generally last 45 minutes. Dr. Annie believes that every patient is unique and deserves individualized care and attention. The eyes are a window into the health of our bodies and many diseases may be detected early through annual eye exams. Our eye exams include screenings for diabetes, glaucoma macular degeneration, cataract and other systemic conditions than can be seen in your eyes earlier than anywhere else in your body. Eye Department provides an additional discount when insurance doesn’t have to be billed.

History

Established in 2013.

When I was in elementary school, my grandmother began to lose her vision. Each time I visited her in her native Thailand, I would notice its deterioration, and by the time I was in middle school, she was completely blind. Being so young, I didn’t understand how or why someone would «lose» their vision but I knew that I had to find out the answer. This curiosity became a passion for medicine and patient care, which developed into my professional calling. I knew the things that I was learning would help me help someone like my grandmother. I made a commitment to focus my studies where I could provide preventative medicine, early detection and treatment of eye diseases. I founded Eye Department; eye care and eyewear in the Goose Hollow neighborhood of SW Portland, Oregon with a mission of restoring the eye care experience by raising the standard of vision care, building lasting relationships with patients and delivering superior patient satisfaction. — Dr. Annie Bacon
