Fada Salon

My daughter just had her hair cut, dyed, and styled at Fada. The stylists were all amazing. They took the time to make sure they had the best color for her hair and gave her the royal treatment. I’d highly recommend this place.

I’m a natural blonde with some reddish tones. I have, at various times, highlighted my hair or dyed it red or light brown. In other words, colors that will fade or blend into my natural hair color with little problem, because while I like to change things up, I’m too lazy to go in every 4 weeks to get it re-​dyed.
Then, this last winter I had the bright idea to dye my hair black. By myself.
It actually turned out pretty well, and I kept it for several months. Yes, I looked a little like a vampire, but it was winter and it was beautifully appropriate when I felt like brooding.
Eventually, though, I got tired of dyeing it every two weeks (who knew my hair grew so quickly?) and went to Bradford for help.
Other than being a little surprised by my appearance when I showed up at the salon (apparently, though I told him I’d gone «dark,» that is not the same thing as «black as night»), Bradford took it all in stride. I needed two sessions (of four and three hours respectively) and it wasn’t cheap, but now that a couple of months have gone by, the transition from the colored blonde to my real hair color is barely noticeable, and I can slip back into to my normal, lazy indifference to grow out. Hooray!

My experience was horrible. Monica (who claimed to know how to cut African American curly hair) thinned my hair out within an inch of it’s life. My thick, beautiful hair has been replaced by thin, stringy strands that need to be straightened to look presentable, and even then they lie at odd angles. *shudder* Not to mention that she was incredibly condescending about my hair care routine which, in hind sight, I should’ve stuck with instead of trying something new! Lesson learned — NEVER AGAIN.

Nice cute place. This was my first time here and I saw Monica. She listened to want I wanted and gave me the exact cut that I asked for. The shampoo was nice just wish it would have lasted longer!

Fada has given me a stylist I can trust, and in a relaxed bright space right downtown.
I have never been one to stay loyal to my hair stylist, but since I started seeing Monica at Fada, I have not once wondered whether I would go back to see her again. Its a relief that the days of always eyeing other salons, and asking people about their hair cut, and feeling lukewarm about my hair are done and gone.
I have long hair and Monica knows just how to make it look chic, sexy and modern. Every cut has looked fantastic, even as it grows out. And for the first time in a long while, my hair is cut in such a manner that I like how it looks whether I spend 30 minutes styling it or whether I just wash it and let it dry on its own.
The staff are friendly and not pretentious. Even better, everyone i’ve met at Fada seems to genuinely like what they do and seems to enjoy working there. Despite other reviewers, I haven’t encountered any issues regarding length of service. Usually I’m in and out in 45 minutes or less (but I stopped coloring my hair years ago, and color might slow things down). My haircut is expensive, but I wear my hair everyday and if loving my locks costs a premium, I’m willing to pay.
Best of all, after each visit, I walk out feeling like a magazine bombshell with my soft curls bouncing (in brunette).

I went to Fada for the first time several years ago, and one of the owners,
Fahti, gave me a fabulous haircut to my age and lifestyle. I also, see
Monica, who is very French, and is such a great assett to this salon.
Every haircut has been given an individual opinion from the stylist,
and was given great care in the cut. I feel so beautiful everytime I
have a cut… and many compliments… from the people that glance,
to the people in Nordstrom’s — Wowllll what beautiful hair, who does
it. Well ofcourse, Fada.
My color specialist, Scarlet is a gem. When you find this, you feel like
keeping it as a little secret to yourself. Every color and everystrand is
done with such artistry and love of the art and it shows. Her personality
and her colors go hand in hand. She always does such a beautiful
skill in what she does.
Anyone who walk through this salon, knows that this is one of the
best salons in Portland. The minute you walk through the door, greetings from all of the receptionists to make you feel comfortable and welcome.

I went to Fada 3 times and really wanted to like them. I just can’t get there. I compliment them on the quality of the consultation and the professional and friendly staff. I looked like a million bucks when I walked out but… What I struggle with is the 3 hours (each time) it took to color and cut my above-​the-​shoulders hair and the $ 165 price tag. I spent a lot of time waiting between services (similar to another reviewer), and simply don’t have 3 hours to spend to be handed from person to person to … hello? Someone? I also think that I spent too long with the color in my hair ’cause when I went home for a wedding, my longtime hairdresser told me that my hair was brittle and fried. I certainly noticed it was much limper unless I put a lot of product in and more hair on my comb and brush.
I don’t mind paying for a good cut and color, but I do mind that my time was not respected and that the quality of what I got was not worth the money. I’m sure if I had fussed a bit things would have changed, but I I don’t think I should have to and 3 times of the same thing rules out the random, bad day factor.

The saying, «You get what you pay for» is true for many things and hair services is one of them– you don’t want to skimp on quality.
Key for any personal service is communication which has to be a 2-​way street meaning my provider not only offers suggestions but engages me in conversation about what I want. I found a great highway of discussion at Fada,…varooom!
Monica was assigned to me and she will continue to be my stylist. She took time to discuss my lifestyle, various styles to fit my life and hair product. I never felt she was giving me a hard sell, her focus was to give me a cut that fit my face shape, hair growth pattern, texture and lifestyle.
Once she got her hands on my hair she seemed to morph into Edward Scissorhands! She is extremely skilled and has an impressive training background, (she’s from Paris) and in fact, teaches at the salon.
Fada is fortunate to have her on their staff and I feel even more fortunate to have found someone I can trust with my hair.
The salon is well lit, organized and has a pleasant ambiance with a friendly, competent staff focused on making their clients comfortable and walking out looking their best.

A few months ago I went to Fada with the desperate yearning to become a ginger. I had an appointment with Laura, and she worked very hard to make my dream come true. She and Scarlet talked to me about all my options. Then, Laura took me from mousy brown to red! I can’t thank her enough.

We’ve been at a loss to find a great salon. Laura at Fada Salon embraces their philosophy of a great haircut, style and image through professionalism and talent! YAY! I love my hair. Laura LISTENED and added her creativity to get me back to «cute and sassy.» I missed out on the groupon. I’m OK with that! I’m a customer, as is my family.

I need to start by stating that I only take the time and spend the money to do my hair once a year. I’m just low-​key like that. When I saw an offer for Fada on Groupon, I jumped at the opportunity and finally went in last week for my appointment. I felt really out of place when I first walked in because it is such a shi shi place. But the receptionist made me feel super welcome as she took my coat and brought me some water.
I then met with Scarlet and Paul for my consultation. This made me nervous since I’ve never had a hair consult nor have I had two different people working on my hair. Scarlet was very patient when I described what I wanted with my highlights and Paul seemed eager to chop off my 15″ ponytail that I was ready to donate to Locks of Love.
With most of my hair now chopped off, Scarlet got started on my highlights. She was sweet and seemed to realize that I’m not much of a talker. I like silence when I’m having my hair done and I always find it awkward when the stylist keeps trying to make conversation with me. I’m sure Scarlet would have preferred chatting with me because she has such a charming personality, but she let me just sit back and relax. She finished by color and then had Paul take over and handle my scalp treatment and massage — a service I would never spend money on but it was offered with the Groupon.
Paul was great. He seemed more anxious to talk, but I didn’t mind because we spent the whole time talking about The Clash and The Rolling Stones. He did my entire cut with a straight razor — a first for me. My hair had only ever been touched by scissors before so that was a fun new experience. When my hair was cut and dried, I was very pleased with the results. The color is fabulous and the style is super cute. I hope they do another Groupon offer because I would love to be able to come back and afford this place.

Just moved to the Portland area four months ago and needed to find a new hair stylist here. I am picky with how my hair is cut and have been known to go home after a haircut, have a meltdown and try to fix it myself… so I was very apprehensive about trying someone new.
My previous salon was a Bumble and Bumble salon and I liked it, so I figured I had a good chance with Fada.
I am so happy with my experience today at Fada. My stylist was Coy and he was wonderful. I hadn’t had someone really spend the time to look at the details and make sure the cut was perfect like he did for a very long time. He even took the time to show me how he likes to blow-​dry hair that minimizes frizz. He was pleasant to talk to without being too chatty.
I really have nothing negative to say about my experience. And I could go on and on about how much I loved Coy and how he cut my hair.
I already made an appointment for February because I know that Coy is my new permanent hair stylist in Portland. Which says a lot for me.
I’m so lucky to have found him with my first shot!

I tried Fada through a Groupon to break away from my mediocre, neighborhood hair salons. Monica listened to what I asked for, and then gave me a cut I never expected. I left the salon looking fabulous, but when I tried to do it myself, I failed miserably. I called for a «fix cut», and nervously went back. Monica greeted me warmly, remembered what we did before, listened to what I needed to be happy. She sent me away with a great cut, and taught me other ways to style it, and did not charge me for the fix. I am so impressed with her cutting technique, and have never had so many compliments about my hair. Fada is a B&b salon, so it is more pricey than my neighborhood salons, but I definitely feel I got my moneys worth and more. I just learned that they validate parking, so that makes this place worth the downtown trip. The receptionist was overly pleasant both times I went.

Used a groupon, and it felt more like people coming in to use groupons were herded like cattle.
A $ 55 «Hair and Scalp Treatment» is just them using Bumble and Bumble products on your hair and working them into your scalp extra well — a service provided for FREE by many other area salons during a wash and cut. Dosha, for instance, will give you a complimentary hand and arm massage while the conditioner soaks and they certainly don’t charge $ 55 for it.
The cut looked fine when I left the salon, but once the flat iron effects washed out, my head had been cut into a mushroom-​mullet. I had to have a friend fix it recently so I didn’t look like I belonged in an 80s’ hair band.
Won’t be returning.

I got a great color, but a horrible haircut at Fada. The mixed experience was made worse by late assistants and stylists.
Since I was looking for a new color and style I encouraged the colorist and stylist to go for it, but to keep in mind that I work in very professional office settings so my style can’t be crazy. Monica was my stylist, and she took the time discuss her plans with the colorist before the process ever started. The three of us had agreed to go for an all over color and the style would be shorter in back and take off some of my length. I was picturing a bob. I ended up with a shaggy, could-​be-​a-​mullet cut that would work on a woman HALF MY AGE. I’ll take the blame for the bad haircut. I really didn’t offer much guidance.
What I didn’t appreciate was all the little things that happened during this four hour process. The colorist took lunch while my color was developing and tasked her assistant to take care of me once the color was done developing. The time dinged. My color was done. But, the assistant was nowhere in sight. Five minutes later, I had to find someone to rinse everything out of my hair.
Once the color was done and the time came for my haircut, Monica was gone. It turns out that she had run down to Pioneer Place to run a few errands and was expected back shortly. Since it was mid-​afternoon and well past lunch time, I asked if I have enough time to step out and grab a quick bite. Both the colorist and the woman at the front desk reiterated that Monica would be back soon, but suggested that I pay right then. Monica showed up 20 minutes later. She apologized, but it seemed like it was one thing after another with this place.
I will not be going back to Fada.

Used a Groupon, but was treated as though I was using real money. Danielle gave me (a very picky hair person!) a great cut.
The music was a bit loud at times, but the atmosphere was great and the salon was clean and lovely.

I had an 8 am appointment here and the woman who was supposed to cut my hair was 30 mins late. I didnt appreciate that too much because it was a Saturday morning. The hair cut was alright. Not worth the $ 65 they charged for it. with the groupon it was around 35 $. I am mostly taking points off because sh showed up late. For the hair cut I d give it 3.5 on 5

I have found my hair cutting Goddess and her name is Monica. For years I went to the $ 15 buck chop-​shops because I am a cheapo. But after having a real, quality cut, I will never do that to my hair again. What was I thinking??? I am planning a move out of Oregon and you know what? I will always come back to Fada to have Monica cut my hair. She is amazing! I had my colour done there once too and was really pleased with how they transformed my wreck of a colour job into a really beautiful, natural look. It is not overly expensive, but it is not cheap either. But treat yourself. All the staff at Fada are always welcoming, warm and professional. Monica’s cuts are designed to to be long lasting. I am a convert. Monica has been doing my hair now for about 3 years and she is simply brilliant. Merci Monica!

My experience was excellent. Monica understood exactly what I wanted and gave me the best haircut I’ve ever had. The salon is beautiful, in a great location, and everyone is very friendly. I highly recommend them, the visit is absolutely worth the money.
Also, I used a Groupon and got a 50% discount of my haircut.

Unimpressed, and that’s an understatement. I went to get my hair colored and cut and my eyebrows waxed. Three different people did my hair, which is just weird. They told me something about, «the colorist doesn’t cut hair.» Well, that’s scary. My literally 5 minute haircut cost $ 55, which would have been fine, except that the girl only cut the back of my neck. She didn’t even touch the front of my hair. And my eyebrows do not look like they have been waxed. Probably because they haven’t. That girl spent more time plucking my eyebrows than waxing, and they look bad. I’m going to have to re-​do them myself. In summary, this place is a total waste of your time and money. Go somewhere else.
