Flatline Studios

I’ve been working with Kyle at Flatline on an app project weekly for the last five months. The studio is solid: comfortable, great ambience, conducive to creativity, etc. But most good studios have that, so no big deal. The really big deal is this:
1. Kyle is brilliant as a producer. He has a great handle on current sounds and beats, and a great ear for building arrangements that work, resulting in modern, fresh, impactful mixes. Rap, pop, dance. rock… he has a great ear for it all.
2. He has a huge array of instrument samples in his computer (primarily Komplete), and is very well versed in choosing good sounds based on what a track needs.
3. He is a very nice guy and a pleasure to work with.
If you are looking for an engineer/​producer to turn you ideas into a finished product that really shines, Kyle should be at the top of your list.

I first met Kyle through a colleague, Champagne Duane, when he was engineering his album. After a disastrous experience with another producer I met up with Kyle to start hashing out the details of my debut EP. I’ll be the first to own the fact that I am a bit of a high maintenance client and Kyle has dealt with all of my requests and inability to make a concrete decision with professionalism and ease. And patience. Lots of patience.
He’s created three original beats for me that fit with my personality and style perfectly and enhanced two that I had prior. When we started recording vocals last week I was shocked when he began to research how other producers recorded/​mixed vocals for artists I think I sound like/​pull inspiration from so that he could nail the sound I am after for each of my songs. Like whaaaat? I’ve never had someone put this much effort or care into a creative project for me before. Also, fun fact, I’m pretty apprehensive about recording vocals because I never want someone to hear me sing an incorrect note ever (totally realistic, I know). Long story short– most non-​stressful recording session I’ve ever had.
If you are looking for a producer who actually knows what they are doing and aren’t just playing with Pro-​Tools after work for a few hours, AND are professional– go to Flatline Studios. Serious. I’m the pickiest, most selective person ever. And I’m happy. That’s saying something.

Recently I made the move to Portland. I stumbled across Flatline Studios on the internet and wrote to Kyle asking about the studio. He told me to come down and check it out. I didn’t know what to expect but I quickly felt at home. The studio is great. Its comfy and has an awesome vibe. The people that come through are talented musicians. Many of the people I have met there have been working with Kyle for a number of years and theres a reason for that. He is not just a recording engineer but a talented producer as well. We have sat down a few times now and simply made music together. The recordings that come out of his studio are professional quality. Kyle is a great guy – open minded, humble, creative, and passionate about the music first and foremost. Cruz is the other engineer and a great dude to hang and produce with. The studio has 3 rooms and an iso booth. Theres a great room for drums with some tall ceilings. I highly recommend Flatline Studios to any musician or artist.

I have been recording with Kyle Alexander Devine (A very talented recording engineer and producer, as well as the owner of Flatline Studios) for 5 years now. I first recorded with him when Flatline Studios was in his attic in Vancouver. Eventually he made the move to a spot in Portland. After lots of dedication and hard work, it’s now a large 3-​room studio (that he custom renovated himself) with top notch recording/​sound equipment, comfortable furniture, instruments, and good vibes. It’s in an industrial location that is kind of tucked away but still really close to everything.
I don’t even live in Portland anymore. I live in Oakland. But I still fly back up to PDX to record everything. Why? Kyle knows what he is doing. He has worked hard to hone his craft and takes it very seriously. He’s constantly growing and soaking up knowledge, reading, researching, studying music. He is honest. He’s a professional, a producer that has next level ideas, an ear for music. I also swear Kyle is a mind reader.
The bottom line is hs makes people sound good, I mean really good. I’ve had some big people in the industry listen to stuff he’s recorded and mixed for me and they always are thoroughly impressed with how clean and pro it sounds. «This guy lives in Portland? He should be in LA.» Is what they say.
Well, either way I’ll be continuing to record my music with Kyle. If you take your music seriously and want to sound your best, I highly recommend Flatline.

Flatline Studios is as professional as it comes! From the outside, you’d never know it; like most independent recording studios, its façade isn’t colorful or flashy or even marked at all. In fact, it’s located in a rather down-​and-​out section of N. Portland, on Loring St, just a few exits away from Moda Center.
However, for the lucky few who get to step inside the studio, the experience is incredible. The interior of Flatline is truly a treat — downright bachelor-​pad, complete with wood paneling, fierce accent lighting, deep leather couches, and record-​lined walls. The energy is electric, calming and flowing with creativity.
Naturally, don’t expect to see the inside of Flatline Studios. well. That is, unless you happen to be an employee, or one of the entourage of the latest music sensations who has booked the space. But if you get a chance, Kyle ‘Alexander Devine’ is probably one of the most creative, professional and humble people to work with!

I’ve worked with Flatline twice now, and willingly fly to Portland when I need to record. It’s totally worth it!
Kyle is a consummate professional. He is patient with people who are less familiar with the aspects of using a studio, and is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure you come away happy. The studio itself is a great creative space with awesome energy. You come away with exactly what you need but don’t feel drained after putting your creativity to good use.
I would recommend this place to anyone!

I just started working with Kyle on my project and I’m so clad that I did. While Flatline Studios is fully equipped and has a very comfortable and creative atmosphere, the real benefit of recording there is working with an engineer as talented as Kyle. He gives honest feedback, is patient, has helpful suggestions, and does everything in his power to make your recording sound as good as possible. His technical engineering skills were really impressive, and I was struck by how detail oriented he was. If you’re serious about your music, regardless of genre, I would highly recommend recording your project at Flatline.

Flatline Studios is a recording studio in downtown Portland ran by Kyle Alexander Devine. Being in this industry I have had the pleasure of visiting many studios of all sizes and genres and I must say, This is definitely one of the best in the area.
Flatline provides artists and musicians with quality industry ready recordings while maintaining a friendly and professional atmosphere. Lots of space, with 3 full rooms as well as an ISO booth; this place has a great feel and comfortable vibe Perfect for all types of music, HipHop/R&B, singer/​songwriter, full bands, etc. Check this place out!

I have been working with Kyle for about a year, and he is a very professional engineer with quality space. I trust the recommendations he makes and have only heard positive reviews from listeners in regards to the audio quality.
Had a session around a month ago, and he has expanded the studio recently in to other rooms, allowing a larger area.
