I enjoyed the Gold Door, But not anymore. You see, it’s their new security system. Kinda «organic» in a sense. The staff just stands and stares at you at all times. Super fuckin’ creepy. I felt so guilty of nothing, I felt obligated to buy something just to prove that my wife and I weren’t scoping the place out. Interesting social skills to sell jewely. I support Portland, but not this business. JESUS H CHRIST. I’m sorry!
Yes, Yes by all means. They have bike parking. Better be sure it’s yours. Cavity search may ensue.

Been going there for years until the security guard followed my husband and I around the store as if we’re gonna steal something and even lifted up his shirt to show us his knife! Ended up leaving and not spending our money there even though we were in there so my husband could buy me a birthday gift! Disappointing

Omg this store is definitely one of my favorites in Portland. Not only is their selection the best, but it’s one of the few places in this area that you don’t get noses turned up at you if you’re wearing anything other than neutral colors and/​or are missing some sort of hemp accessory.
The have the funkiest stuff here. From day of the dead, to natural stone jewelry with a selection that you couldn’t even believe, to gifts, to dicks carved out of quartz crystal… I love it all.
I left with a beautiful ring which I’m still not sure if it’s rainbow moonstone or spectralite but regardless… It was like $ 50 bucks and a steal for what it was. Totally fair prices!
The employees here are great too. Super helpful and fun to talk to.

I am back on the correct coast again and one of my first stops was Gold Door. I am so happy to find that they are still in Portland and still one of the most fun shops in Hawthorne!!!
This place is filled to the brim with eye candy. I found a beautiful ring and pair of earrings that were so lovely and unusual. The staff is always friendly and really knowledgeable about their jewelry. Whenever I am in Portland, Gold Door will be my first stop!

Cool products and really nice staff. I came in right before closing the other night to get a gift certificate for a friend. They were literally bringing stuff in from the outside to close. I know that I hate it when i would get a stragger in at the last minute when I worked retail, but they were super chill about it and didn’t make me feel rushed. My friends was super happy. This is my go-​to for gifts for my gf and my mom. Lots of sterling silver jewelry to choose from, very reasonably priced, and the staff is super helpful and friendly. We also get our incense from here (India Temple and Midnight are our favorites). They have a lot of cool stuff upstairs and down, from little wooden trinkets and clever fridge magnets, to expensive artisan furniture and rare gems. There are several shops nearby, and they are nice too, but they simply don’t offer the low prices, selection, or overall friendliness of the Gold Door.

The Gold Door is Portland’s one stop spot for unusual jewelry from around the world and from the USA. Think ethnic and tribal. If you are visiting from out of town, stop by!
They have the shop organized by region, by stone and by metal. Staff is helpful, not intrusive.
I discovered them by a shared interest with their spokesmodel in African artifacts. She starred in some of their video ads.
So I have purchased West African beads here and modern American-​made silver.
Yes, some of their items are near antiques, but they are not in the realm of expensive antiques. And yes some of the beads and artifacts are creepy. Teeth, skulls, bones! I’m envisioning dark magic mindsets. I do not go for that, I have seen enough for real, but hey, it’s a free country!
They have a basement filled with home décor items. For jewelery of the Indian subcontinent and Central Asia, you are not going to find these items in town unless you have a friend who traveled there to collect them. Good spot for belly dance jewelry.
They also have a good selection of jewelry incorporating stones, minerals, crystals and the like. They have a large selection of one of a kind turquoise set in silver. I do not have a spiritual interest in geology, but you can’t dis the visual beauty of rocks.
Today jewelry aesthetics is governed by the admixture of beauty and narrative. The balance is shifting from the former to latter. There are a few world jewelry brands, then there are regional, including East Coast brands, especially in the diamond industry. Let’s just say I know something about that, and do not approve. Leading cultural edge thinking is «Made by this person» known in my social network. Gold Door is historical, cultural old school, the narrative is the world culture of the aesthetic, and your knowledge of it, which, in itself, is a narrative. «This is from _​, did you know _​?» But hey, feel free to ignore my theory! And visit Gold Door!
If you are on Hawthorne, touristing, this is one of the finest spots to stop. Great spot for your sweetie if you know their taste thoroughly.

Last time I was here I forgot my cash and needed some incense and the staff (love these guys!!!) ended up just giving me the little pack! Thank you so much, it was so sweet and totally made my day!
I could spend all my money here, the store is full of great, crazy, gorgeous and fun finds and I really think it is a place to show off when people come and visit our friendly city! Totally coming back for more. Wish you all great retail shifts and good days! :)

I detest, hate, abhor pushy salespeople. The relaxed, easygoing atmosphere here was exactly what I needed.
We bought my «just got engaged» ring here, and it was an AMAZING customer service experience. This isn’t a high-​end store, but it has a huge selection of quality used jewelry.
The incense and glass trinkets almost turned me away, but then Amber took us under her wing. She pulled out hundreds of rings, told us about the meaning of the various stones, stayed late to help us find the perfect one. She even took photos of my fiancé re-​proposing to me right at the counter.
Definitely recommended.

Cute store with lots of options for trinkets, jewelry and gifts. I spent 30 minutes looking around and did not make it downstairs. If you are into skulls and the day of the dead type trinkets you should check out there selection.
The store has a nice range and variety of items at all price points. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well. I purchased a few items and wished I had more room in my suitcase for some of the fragile items I wanted. This is a must visit store, if for nothing else to see the Zoltar machine.

Love this store, the jewellery is amazing as well as all the different cultures represented here. They have an amazing staff as well. Amber is one of many who are wonderful to work with when you visit.

This place is an alternative jewelry store. They have a lot of crystals and trinkets, as opposed to diamonds and gold. Their downstairs had larger gifts like statues and pictures. The staff is always friendly and helpful.

Never purchased anything here; the goods seem overpriced. But it is a place that has a lot to look at – jewelry, vintage furniture, salt lamps and the like. You kind of just have to go in and see if it’s your style. It’s not really an antique store. Or a jewelry store. Some pieces are very inexpensive. The downstairs area never has anything to my taste.

Best jewelry in Portland, gorgeous handmade items with natural stones all over the place. Great collection of Dia de los Muertos items and some fun items from around the world — buddhas, soap, incense, stone penises, you get the idea.

Great store for some esoteric jewelry that you cannot find easily in the Pacific northwest —-But you are not doing yourself a favor if you purchase jewelry that can be purchased elsewhere for less price — last year i purchased a pair of smoky quartz earring — for a heafty price –It had a story of why they were the price — over a hundred dollars –I purchased them –then days later I iwent online to find the same brazilian smoky quartz –same qualty etc. earring for 40 dollars –I realized ok –live and learn –so recently I went there to browse and saw a pendent I liked — of which they wanted 225 for it –with an interesting story for its high price —people dying for the mining for example –this time I did not buy –I went online and purchased a more beautiful larger authentic AAA ++ grade and pattern for 47 dollars !! Yikes !!!

My wife could spend half a day in here poking around easily, even though she probably has the store memorized. I don’t really know how one would classify Gold Door. It’s part imported art shop (think Ethiopian/​Mexican/​Turkish imports, not Viennese/​Swiss/​French Imports), part rock/​crystal shop, part jewelery store (albeit very unique, probably imported or antiquated or both, jewelry), part vintage furniture and home décor dealer (the basement!). You just really ought to go there and figure out for yourself what it is. I highly recommend the store. There is just so MUCH in there, and although most of their merchandise falls within a certain genre (i think?), it’s at the same time very eclectic and varied.
We’ve been to the majority of Portland’s «imported art/​jewelry/​knick-​knack» stores that I would bundle up together with Gold Door, and I think that Gold Door is probably the best one. I’m certain my wife would give Gold Door 10 stars if she could.
For what it is (ergo, for what it sells), Gold Door is the best in its class, whatever that class is exactly.
Oh, and the staff have always been very very kind, helpful, and funny.

This is a very eclectic store. I never expected to find my favorite jewelry designer inside this store. I was hanging out in the Hawthorne area of Portland after visiting my favorite breakfast place (Yes, Waffle Window, totally worth the 120 miles rt drive). I decided to come in, even though I cannot stand the scent of incense. Tucked away in the back of the store I see Sergio Gutierrez stuff, I couldn’t believe it. I had to get a couple pieces again. This time a got a bigger bracelet, I always get compliments when I wear it. I also got a pair of earrings. I will make a yearly trip to this store. One can never have enough SG.

Wow… surprising and unnecessary bad experience this visit. Beautiful items, great shop but customer service is really hit and miss. This particular time I was talked to with a manner of contempt that I feel is best reserved for a MAJOR faux pas and even then there’s the concept of basic respect. I brought over earrings to purchase and was asked with attitude what the price was on them. Not realizing the process around pricing (not my shop) I wandered over to where I had originally picked them up and grabbed the little stand with the price. I was then informed in a highly patronizing tone that «It helps knowing the price and the stand looks weird just sitting there without items». Umm. sorry? Not my shop, a little more focused on looking at the beautiful items on a rare work/​kid free day out with my buddy. Please save the icy tone for someone who has just thrown a slur out or something of that sorts not a customer purchasing items in «your» store. If I wasn’t so thrown off by the rudeness I would have just put the items back and left. A beautiful shop but there are far too many options in town to put up with such snottiness from someone who I assume is over 20 years and «ideally» past the too cool for you stage.
*That being said I have had wonderful, «welcoming» conversations with other staff. Still pretty off-​putting overall to not know what I’m going to get on any given day.*

Every once in a while, I get the itch to go spend a reasonable amount of money on something pretty.
Something useless.
Something nice to look at it that makes me feel warm and happy inside.
If you look around our house, you see the product of these infrequent (THANK GOD) itches.
Most of those things, well, they came from Gold Door.
Day of the Dead art, gargoyle cats with glowy eyes (one angel one devil), interesting ceramic ware. a particularly dazzling moonstone necklace with matching earrings… and a bracelet…(you didn’t think I’d leave the bracelet there for ANOTHER person, did you?)
Gold Door is a great place to dispose of your nearly disposable income.
Stay out of it if you don’t have any… but if you do… it’s near the Waffle WIndow (just a thought).

So many wonderful, unique pieces here. It’s a little overwhelming when you take that first step through the door, but if you take your time perusing case upon case of jewelry, you’re bound to come face to face with that special one you’ve been waiting for. I’m in love with their collection of Peruvian butterfly wing pendants. They are all so lovely. And the staff was very knowledgeable and patient with us throughout our quest. The pricing ranges across the board, but everything we looked at seemed fairly marked. This could be a dangerous place to frequent if you value keeping dollars in your wallet because there is far too much goodness here to spend them on.
