I have lived in this neighborhood for nearly 12 years and just visited here for the first time. I won’t lie, the exterior intrigued me, yet scared me away. Today I said«hell with it, let’s try it.» I only sampled the one dish: honey wheat panckes with blue berries. Yum. They were good. The diner coffee wasn’t bitter and sour tasting, which I appreciated(I’m guessing they keep their pots clean). My friend had pancakes, eggs and bacon — which looked pretty sizeable in portion. I have no clue what the rest of the food is like. The interior is well… dated. If things were in good repair it would be «retro». I think their booths in the back are cool looking, despite the obvious need for repair. Still, comfortable enough. It was clean inside, and that’s what matters most. Service was friendly and prompt. Go get some pancakes!

This is your old school dinner with a huge breakfast menu. Everything is just good tasty food. We love their omelets, gravy and biscuits, their bacon is thick cut and yummy. You get a lot of food for your money. It’s nothing special, there is duct tape on the booths and such the décor may suck but we don’t go there for that. We come here at least once a month for a big hearty breakfast and always leave full and satisfied!

This is the closest breakfast spot to my house and the food and service are solid, for greasy diner food. Been here many times but last year I stopped eating here after my mother and I both got explosive diarrhea from the pancakes, BUT after a while I gave them another chance. Now here I sit on the pot after having to rush home after my omelette instead of heading to work. If you like a ‘Touch of Diarrhea’ this is your spot. Make that-overpriced touch of diarrhea.

My family and I stopped in here not long ago. Honestly, this a great place to get breakfast. It’s not updated, pretentious or modern… WHICHISWHAT I LOVEDABOUTIT. It has a large menu with many different things to choose from. It just gave me a good feeling. It has some character. If I lived locally I would totally stop into this place to get a cup of coffee and a nice breakfast. Overall I really enjoyed it and I would eat here again. :)

Go enjoy this Portland staple while you can. The property owners will be tearing down the Golden Touch to build… you guessed it, a new multifamily apartment building.

The food was bland and the service was horrible. And if you are a Minority stay away! I’m a Black respectable male and was travling from California and I didn’t feel welcomed. DINERBEWARE.

The food was pretty decent, although the Eggs Benedict was made a little off it still tasted pretty okay and my friend said his meal was pretty good as well. I think he got the biscuits and gravy. however, the service was horrible. everyone there looked like they would rather be anywhere else. no enthusiasm from any server, literally greeted us, asked what we wanted to drink /eat, brought us the food and check; one right after the other. didn’t ask any questions if it wasn’t necessary and didn’t make ANY small talk. she also took a very long time to take our orders, she made eye contact with me as she stood behind the counter and did nothing while we sat and waited with our menus closed and moved towards the end of the table. the booths are also a little out of shape but it’s clearly an old diner. wish they had a better staff.

I love that over the years nothing changes in this restaurant. It’s typical breakfast food with a dash of dull. *It was snowing today and they open at 6 am and we showed up at 10 am and it was freezing cold in the restaurant. When your servers are wearing coats I think it’s not the first time and the owners are just cheap… sad.

With out a doubt a very well kept secret. Don’t let the outside scare you off Great food wonderful service. Super super tender chicken fried steak. Gravy was beyond great… in the Portland area give this place a try. You won’t be disappointed..

I have found my new breakfast place! Golden Touch is not pretentious, this isn’t over the top gourmet food. It’s simple and delicious diner food at a very reasonable price. It is a CLEAR cut above a chain like Denny’s(the quality is much better). A thoughtfully prepared hearty breakfast and a decent cup of coffee here is just such a wonderful way to start a day! The wait staff are very attentive. My coffee always stays warm and full, no matter how busy they get(it’s a popular spot on the weekends).

Best breakfast in SW Portland! Try the country gravy! YUM! I love the extra crispy hash browns, oh and 4 huge slices of bacon!

My kinda place. It’s a hole in the wall with great breakfast food. I judge a place by the hash browns… and theirs are freshly made and perfect! I asked for an omelet made into a scramble and it came out perfect as well. The staff(waitress and cook) was quite friendly too, but not invasive. Great food and great experience. (Was having a bad day and I needed a home-style place.)

A rare gem of Portland; a diner that serves diner food at diner prices from friendly diner staff. This is where you go when you’re tired of places trying too hard to be unique. If you’re hungover and don’t want to bother with hipsters, lines, and poetic descriptions of your food — this is the place. Get an honest cup of coffee and an honest breakfast for an honest price.

This reminds me of where we would stop along the highway on road trips as a kid. the décor is dated and a bit run down. The fare is american diner and they have the standards down pretty well though nothing fancy. This is where you go when you need some pancakes and cannot tolerate waiting in lines anymore for breakfast.

Basic diner, comfortable booths. Some of the worst coffee I’ve had in ages – and I usually like and appreciate diner coffee for what it is; I judge it within its category. I asked for the Spinach and Mushroom omelette with egg beaters, but got it with egg whites. The spinach and mushrooms were both fresh though. The potatoes were ok. No onions or seasonings, but they had a nice crust. My bill with a cup of tea(I had to send the coffee back) came to 11.50. If it had been a few bucks cheaper, I might have edged this up to three stars, but as it is, the quality and value are both missing. That said, the servers were all pleasant and well meaning. It will do in a pinch, or when a large comfortable diner booth is more important than the food you put in your mouth.

We love this place! The atmosphere is top notch: perfectly preserved 1960s diner awesomeness. I wish I had the dough just now to give them to get everything repaired. Everyone who works at GT is super-nice, genuine, and cares for/respects the restaurant’s heritage. The food is fab, too. Eggs Benedict is marvellous! Golden Touch is not a title given in vain! :-)

I enjoy the food and the atmosphere of the old style in the place. The breakfast is good, affordable, and it is a nice little dinner. I recommend it.

I’ll won’t be going back there. When I walked in the sign read wait to be seated. I was waiting and a waitress walked up grabbed a menu and threw it in the table. She didn’t say hello or anything. I asked her if that was for me and she said yes. I should have left at that moment but I didn’t. I was tired from being at work all night and wanted to relax and have coffee. The next waitress came over wasn’t as rude but not nice. She took my order she didn’t ask if I wanted coffee, I had to ask her. I had an omelet and it was an omlete. There were several customers who came in after me they were told good morning and brought coffee… the food was cheap in price.

Transport yourself back to 1972 while you still can. The Golden Touch is classic diner sentimentality. Interior designers should stop by simply to see the décor. The food is exactly what you would expect from a diner. None of it is gourmet, but portions are large, prices are low, and the pancakes with whipped butter are perfect. Refill your cup of coffee at the counter and check your love meter reading at the door. Rumor has it that The Golden Touch may have to close in the next year and that the beautiful vintage building will be demolished. They are only open until 3p.m. each day, so make it your next morning breakfast meeting spot before it becomes yet another new apartment building.

Today’s Special: Attitude with a heaping side of dust bunnies. Man this place is just sad. I man, the premise is nice. A relic from days long gone. That would be a nice, cool, comfortable place to have good old diner food. However, this place looks like it had its prime decades ago and decided to just go through the motions since then. The booths look like crap held together(when they cared to even try) with duct tape. The carpet is ratty and the lights are covered in dust. I almost felt the need to have an umbrella to ensure there wasn’t dust raining on my food(but hey dust may have made the fried taste better, but I’ll get to that later.) A dirty area where the customers can see makes you wonder what it’s like where the customer cant see(i.e. the kitchen). Whenever I go to a breakfast place I always order lunch. It’s just what I do. I’m not much of country breakfast kinda guy. So I ask for the chicken tenders. The lady looks at me and indignantly grunts«really?» Screw you too, lady. First off, if you don’t want to serve lunch for breakfast, don’t say you will on the menu. Second, t’s not like you’ll have to turn on the friers, with chicken fried steak on the menu. Third, I know that shit was frozen so don’t complain about having to «prepare» the tenders either. The worst part of her atitude was that I had just switched to a medical treatment where I had to avoid potassium, whch exists in spades in potatos(lest they are specially prepped). Because she was so bitchy about the tenders, I didn’t want to see how shitty she would treat me when I tried to sub out the fries for something I could eat. So as to the food, yeah it was bleh. Well, it was like a yin and yang. The tenders were pretty good(though I know they came from frozen as they just had that processed sort of look and texture, not that I care). But the fries were just bad. I usually love crinkle cut fries, but these were bland, tasteless, undercooked, and I doubt they even tried to season them. I mean it’s not hard to make a good crinkle cut fry. Shit, Burger King did it. Also the fact that few places serve them anymore makes them even easier to do right. But nope. This place STILL got it wrong. Oh well. I’m teetering as two whether this place deserves one or two stars. I guess I’ll be charitable and give it a two. That’s only because the tenders were good and when I see this place I’m not filled with anger or disgust, just pure disapointment.
