It has been months since my girlfriend and I visited this small coffee shop and I still think about that Chili Mex. It was such a perfect blend of sweet, spicy, and coffee flavors that can not be replicated. I crave it all the time! We had a great convo with the owner and it was so nice to get a really good cup from a genuine person without the hipster pretentiousness or forced corporate happiness. Seating is limited and kind of weird being in the shared industrial area in the back but totally worth it.

A great and friendly place to get combobulated. The phrase of damn fine coffees fits to a tee.

I knew«Marco» when he went by Mark, back in the day, down San Diego way. He really knew his stuff back then and I’m not surprised that he finally put all that knowledge and experience to good use in his own business, as opposed to slaving away in the oppressive, corporate environment he use to work in. For those of you that prefer to patronize small, independent businesses, please know that Mark is not only an entrepreneur, he also a great guy, worthy of your support. I look forward to driving up north someday and checking out his Half Pint Café.

[Review from June 2015] I’ve only gone to the Half Point Café once, but I was rather disappointed. It’s pretty small inside, but I didn’t stay long(got my drink to go) so not much to say about the ambience. What I do have thoughts on is their iced coffee, which, to me, tasted burnt. Maybe they do a dark roast and just ice the coffee they’ve brewed, but for craft coffee lovers who want a nice cold brew, this might not do it for you.

BESTESPRESSOINTOWN! We are from California and tried many coffee shops in both Portland and CA. This is so far the best latte and mocha we have tasted. The aroma and after taste. They roast their own espresso beans. We would buy air tickets to just go back to that coffee shop.

This is a first! Unilocal just informed me via email that my previous 2 star review of Half Pint Café was removed because my review focused on their hours of operation. They don’t open until 8:00 am and I thought that was late for a morning coffee shop(just my option). I have been back to Half Pint Café(after 8:00 am) and their coffee is good. My only comment was on their hours. I was most disappointed with the fact that my review was removed. I was hoping that all reviews stayed on Unilocal even if they are not positive. This time I gave it 3 stars with the hope that my review stays on Unilocal

Great little coffee shop which is situated inside a freight elevator. Yup thats right. Only in Portland. Great coffee, as well. Free wi-fi and a nice place to work. It’s kind of small only 3 or so tables but thats a good thing, you get to strike up conversations with different people sitting there. Very friendly owners as well! Will be back.

Following their trend of positivity! Loved this place I went this morning to get my little drip coffee. Such amazing service I take it was the owner was just so adorable. Has a nice little area to sit in the back. Very friendly and I’m excited for my next visit to this place. Also not too hard to find parking! I found a spot for my giant suburban a rare occasion in the city!

CHILIMEXCHILIMEXCHILIMEX! Others have stated it… I merely emphasize the power of this drink! Quaint little shop with a great hangout factor if you’ve got the time… another one of those places I didn’t know existed and I’ve worked in this neighborhood for 12 years… I need to get out more often! But the CHILIMEX… did I tell you about it? A wonderful, spicy Mocha but not just cinnamon… it’s got a little more kick and with the boldness of this coffee it is exactly what one needs on a drizzly rainy day… kinda wish that’s what I had instead of 60 and partly cloudy… oh well… next time… the pastries are good and fresh from local bakers… accented by the coffee, but honestly, next time I’ll just stick with the coffee… I mean THECHILIMEX!!! Which you should go and try… seriously…

On second thought. I’m sad they are closed on Sunday and I think have limited hours on Saturday. That could make them better. But the fact that I know that means I’ve tried to return a couple weekends, which means it’s a good spot.

I cannot say what a great experience I had here. I had had an emotionally terrible moment and found myself on the other side of town with my wallet inside a busy conference room a few blocks away. I went in and, through tears, asked the owner(I think) if I could have a cup of coffee and i would pay it forward or pay him later. He didn’t think twice and gave me a cup and told me to make myself at home. I’d be here far more often if i lived closer. If you’re near here… stop in. Your faith in humanity will be improved!

Okay, we stumbled upon this place as we were wandering around Portland. We went inside and Marco the owner started to chat it up with us. When he found out that we’re out of towners that had just relocated from out of state, he proceeded to give us a wonderful history of the town and the surrounding areas. Things to do, places to go, items to eat… my wife and I were just amazed at how kind and thoughtful this gentleman was to a family of perfect strangers. We bought several items and his parting remarks, «Welcome to Portland, I hope you enjoy it here… the coffee is on me!» I’ll be going back to chat it up with the owner. Thanks Marco, we enjoyed the time at the Half Pint Café.

So I came and broke my shoe. Yes, it broke. And guess what? The owner helped me fix it. Pretty cool and NOT coffee related. In terms of coffee, the Chili Mex is suggested to the moon and back. I am not a large fan of spicy but it was truly there to enhance the flavor. I came in around 11 on a weekday and stayed till about 3pm. Small and intimate, you just may talk to the owner and employee if you stick around. Really nice experience. Tied with Oui Presse for favorite coffee shop.

This was the second café I decided to try out on my trip to Oregon. The owner was welcoming, knowledgeable, and hospitable. He even treated me to a proper cappuccino on the house(which was excellent by the way, the microfoam/crema on top was smooth). I would definitely come back for the service and the ambience of this small café. Despite its size, the owner made this place into an enjoyable establishment with a simple menu and extensive knowledge of coffee. Keep doing what you do, because this little place is just what I needed to pick-myself-up!

The barista guy is super knowledgeable and The coffee is on point. If you like that romantic image of a cozy tucked away coffee shop that knows what it is doing, you should give this place a visit!

I believe it was the owner who received us. He sold us on the Chili Mex, a brilliant blend of chocolate and peppers to make the dopio espresso it’s mixed with delicious and authentic. He also did a great job at supplying a couple of Texas tourists a full day schedule of events and places to check out.

The reviews don’t lie, folks. The gentleman that owns and operates this café is the most friendly man alive. In addition, his on-duty employee was just as personable. I felt immediately welcomed and appreciated. Fantastic customer service. The place is tiny, with maybe three tables, and it seems to do most of it’s business w/to-go coffees for the companies that share the building. While I occupied one of the tables for about two hours, at no point were all three full. The coffee was fine, nothing super memorable. But when the staff is as gregarious as that of Half Pint Café, you want to come back. And I certainly will.
