Our mission at Hawthorne Dental is to provide our patients with the ultimate dental health experience. To achieve this, our focus is on comprehensive dental care and thorough patient education. Like many things in life, quality dental care takes time, and we focus our complete attention on the patients we are with for the duration of the procedure. We make every effort to ensure patient comfort and complete understanding of the treatment being recommended, including the cost. We utilize high tech options like digital x-​rays, CAD/​CAM for porcelain crowns, lasers for many types of soft tissue treatment, ultrasonics for more comfortable and more thorough cleanings, and the Vizilite for early oral cancer detection. We specialize in silver filling removal, TMJ services (jaw pain), Sinsational Smile in-​office whitening, dentures, tooth-​colored fillings, sealants, tooth-​removal, cosmetic procedures, some implant, root canal and orthodontic services. History

Established in 2005.

I’m a 1998 graduate of the University of Minnesota Dental School. I fell in love with Portland and moved here in 2003, and I’ve owned the practice since 2005. Since taking over the practice, I’ve done my best to «green up» the place. We use Green Power from PGE, buy as many recycled products (mostly paper) as we can and recycle as much as we can, and use our office paper on both sides before recycling, We’ve replaced as many of our light fixtures as we can with CFL’s and had a programmable thermostat installed.

In 2015, we have expanded! We now operate a sister dental office called North Portland Dental Care. We now offer expanded hours, though split between the two practices. Why did this site turn my little tiny photo sideways? Well, there I am, on my ear. I’m originally from PA and MD, did my undergrad at Penn State. Most of my life I’ve been a musician and music lover and the office is all done up in cool music décor featuring jazz, rock, and pop icons. That’s right — ROCKSTAR TREATMENT, baby! Outside the office I enjoy seeing live music (shocking, right?), getting out to see the great outdoors, jogging, and reading.

I was soooo happy to find Dr. Watson. I have a dentist phobia, and even though I didn’t tell anyone there about it, I was totally 100% put at ease by all the staff and Dr. Watson. He just has a really calming energy, which helped me stay calm throughout an extraction. He explained everything, but wasn’t fake in his friendliness, which was super nice. He also didn’t try to wring me for all I’m worth, but just took care of the problem I came in with.
The receptionists are friendly and amusing (Autumn is kind of like having Amy Schumer or Jennifer Lawrence as your receptionist, and uh, who could ask for more than that?), the assistant and the doctor were super kind and real and sincere. They kept me informed and kept me calm without even trying. And since Dr. Watson is a rock and roll fan, the music was really good.
All in all, easily the most pleasant dentist experience I’ve ever had.

I am a new patient here and so far I could not be happier. Just like other reviewer mentioned.
*They are so informative and explain everything they are doing and looking for
*They have a camera that goes in your mouth and takes pictures of each tooth! So they can show the decay and everything with a real photo instead of a just x Ray that makes no sense (which they also do)
*It’s not a fancy office but I’ve been going to a fancy one and they are way over priced and didn’t give me a THIRD the information Hawthorne Dental has given me.
*Prices are reasonable. They work with you keep down the cost like less x Ray photos.
*I don’t feel judged by them on the care or lack of care I may be giving my teeth
*They are genuinely nice and caring. And I felt really taken care of. I actually really enjoy the dentist now, because of them.

I always seem to have trouble with my teeth so finding a great dentist is super important to me.
Hawthorne Dental was recommended to me by a co-​worker and I’m going on my third visit. Basically, I’m super happy with the staff, the quality of care and the location is very convenient too.
For my last appointment I had an emergency come up. I hate having to reschedule appointments for the dentist or doctor because it can screw them up, but this time I had no choice. They were understanding and empathetic to my situation and got me rescheduled.
This kind of service goes a long, long way in my book!
For the dental work I’ve had done here I have absolutely no complaints. I had no pain, I was comfortable, and taken care of by the awesome staff. Yes! Finally, a good experience at the dentist. :)

After moving to the area, I needed to find a dentist for the family and chose Dr. Watson’s office based on Unilocal reviews. I have been to the practice several times now and am very satisfied with the office staff, Dr. Watson and especially the final product.
He repaired a surface filling on one of my front teeth and blended the colors and surface to a perfect match, so much so that you cannot even tell there was ever an issue. Pure artistry. I can tell that Dr. Watson is a perfectionist, which in my book is OK with me! I highly recommend this practice.

After being in Dr. Watson’s chair a handful of times for fillings, a root canal and crown, I’m comfortable giving Dr. Watson and his staff an A+ rating. Dr. Watson is truly a great dentist.
I came to him through an emergency and it has lead us down the path of a very comprehensive treatment plan. Dr. Watson has been steadfast every step of the way. I find him to be the most thoughtful, methodical, thorough yet kind Dentist I have ever worked with. His patience with my questions and his clear thought process has been amazing and reassuring. His entire staff and office s top notch also!
His referrals to Specialists have been spot on for me also. He has made a traumatic experience (The original emergency) turn into a very positive outcome.

The staff at Hawthorne Dental was phenomenal! I was about to leave on a trip to visit my family when I chipped off a corner of my front tooth. Of course the holiday week was approaching and I did not think I would have much luck with getting my tooth repaired. I explained my plight to the receptionist Alicia, who was very sympathetic and even though Dr Watson was completely booked she said she would try to fit me in somewhere. I was not holding out much hope and was resigned to my new country bumpkin look. Lo and behold, Dr Watson offered to work through his lunch! Amazing.
Everyone was very friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant. Even though Dr. Watson was missing his lunch on my behalf, he was taking his time and not rushing at all. He was very thorough and worked diligently to match the color of the filling to my tooth. He and his crew made certain that I was absolutely satisfied with the end result.
The prices are reasonable and I have already scheduled my appointment for a full exam and cleaning in a month. I am pleased to have found my new dentist.

Dr. Watson replaced a filling for me today — the second one he’s done. I am not a fan of dental work, and I am especially nervous around needles, but Dr. Watson and his staff go the extra mile to make me feel comfortable, so much so that today I almost drifted off to sleep! Hawthorne Dental is full of caring professionals, from the dentist to the dental assistants to the front desk. I feel more comfortable here than any other dentist office I’ve been to in a long while.

After a regrettable experience with my first dentist in Portland, I was in need of a new dentist in an almost-​emergency situation. Dr. Watson was able to sneak me (a new patient) in on short notice and give me a temporary quick fix, as well as lay out multiple options for long term solutions.
We were able to talk through how options compared financially, duration of expected lifetime (on a crown/​implant), and even how to approach dental insurance inquiries in preparation for moving forward.
Dr. Watson was concise, to the point, could translate his thoughts into layman’s terms for me, and didn’t push me towards unnecessary follow-​ups or dental plans. It was refreshing to find a dentist who works with you on your teeth but doesn’t think of you as just a potential cash influx.
I found Dr. Watson with a quick Unilocal search of my neighborhood (I live nearby). His office isn’t flashy… some photos of singers and albums on the walls… but I learned last time that office flair doesn’t a good dentist make.
If you’re looking for a dentist in Portland, and especially if the location is convenient for you, then heed Sherlock Holmes’ advice– Dr. Watson is the best sidekick you’ll find to solve your mouth problems.

Dr. Watson is a thorough, competent dentist that could easily double as your friendly neighbor. For me, his practice extends beyond dentistry and really takes hold with his hygienist, Marilyn.
For five years, Marilyn has helped me improve my at-​home care related to my «special needs» (deep pockets). She’s a friendly, genuine person who isn’t afraid to encourage you with the necessary truth, such as (to paraphrase): «Do better or teeth go bye-​bye.» For the record, she uses complete sentences. I appreciate a straightforward approach from professionals who choose to help you take care of your body.
Please consider Dr. Watson’s practice if you enjoy a family feel and fake fish swimming on nicely mounted t.v.s!

My husband and I have been going to Dr. Watson ever since he took over the practice. He is very thorough, explains everything clearly, and is a perfectionist (that’s a good thing) with all of his work. I have had many dentists over the years (yes, I’m old) and none were as good as Dr. Watson. His cleaning technician, Marilyn, is equally good. I actually enjoy going to the dentist now and highly recommend Dr. Watson and his staff.

I initially went to Keith and crew to get some fractured molars repaired (restaurant was to blame) and Keith went over the route he’s advise, we talked a bit and I told him my preference. Well, we went my preferred route and I couldn’t be more pleased with everything.
here’s the important jazz: NO UNNECESSARY WORK! This should be a no-​brainer but in the past I had dentists trying to tap my insurance for every little thing they could and it ruined me to dentists altogether! Pain, suffering, I had to get restoration work when it went south… NOT with Dr. Watson. A straight shooter.
Next thing that made me really happy was after the restoration crowns, I requested some cosmetic restoration and did as i requested, taking a rout he was not familiar with and the results are BEAUTIFUL! He has a good hand and an excellent eye for aesthetics and i felt comfortable making special requests. Some dentists pull that «Now look here, I’m the doctor» crap. NOT Dr. Watson and I appreciate it.

Dr. Watson is a fantastic dentist. Great for anyone who has the hebbie-​gebbies about being at the dentist. He is kind as well as knowledgable. He goes through all your options regarding care and treatments. Marilynn, the cleaning tech is awesome too. They were able to really help me and my husband out in a pinch. offers a great benefit for those without insurance — pay with cash and receive 10% (or is it 15%? I don’t remember…) off your entire bill! saved me quite a bit.
Dr. Keith pegged a couple of my teeth that weren’t quite cavities on the outside. we opened them up, and sure enough, he was right. great preventative care.
I only wish I could afford to go more often!
