Our piano teachers all use a modern, highly successful piano curriculum which quickly builds an impressive repertoire of piano songs that children love to play, while also developing proper playing technique, as well as rhythmic, aural, and note reading ability.
Guitar
Guitar lessons at Hoffman Academy provide a great balance between having fun playing awesome music, while also providing a solid foundation in music theory, including rhythms, staff reading and tablature. Students learn proper guitar technique and style from an expert teacher, while receiving many performance opportunities.
Meet the Business Owner
Joseph H.
Business Owner
Joseph Hoffman began playing the piano at age six. In high school, he studied with Alfred Mouledous, principal pianist for the Dallas Symphony. While continuing his musical studies in piano and conducting at BYU, Mr. Hoffman began teaching piano lessons. He wanted his students to love piano as much as he did, but he struggled to find an existing method that provided a rigorous musical training, while still being fun and engaging. Over the next several years, he made it his personal quest to study all he could about learning theory, and he actively researched the best methods available. It was from these years of study and experimentation that the «Hoffman Method» of teaching piano was born.
After graduating with a Master of Music in 2005, Mr. Hoffman was appointed as part-time faculty in BYU’s School of Music, where he taught music theory and conducting for 2 years. In 2007, Mr. Hoffman moved to Portland to fulfill a life long dream of starting a music academy.
