Inn at the Convention Center

I gave this place one start because I didn’t have the option to give it no stars. If you stay here you will get ZERO sleep. You have trains that are right next to you making noise allllllll night and day. It’s so so with cleanliness and service. Bottom line, staying here was literally painful. Stay on the other side of the river for actual sleep.

We stayed two nights in a city-​view room (which I had specifically requested to be on the other side of the MAX rail, and it is quieter there). The room was dated, the shower pressure is good but didn’t drain, so standing water would come up to ankles in every shower… But for price and location, this motel was definitely good enough. Location to moda center was an easy walk and über or drive to anywhere was quick.
However, spotting a bed bug as it crawled across the white sheet (it was a big sucker, too) really ruined it for us. The front desk made us move to a room on the train side, which was noisier. When it happened, we were on our way out for Saturday night with friends and I didn’t want to waste time and make a scene… but seriously, other than a ‘sorry’ that we had you sleep in a room with bed bugs for one night plus downgrade to a room on the train side on the second night, the hotel did nothing for us!
We paid around a $ 100 (including taxes) for night, but the bed bugs and downgrading to another room on the train side is not worth the price or hassle. I don’t think I would recommend others or stay here myself again… next time we’re going to see the Blazers play, we will stay at least in a 3-​star hotel or use airbnb.

This is nothing like the picture! The bathroom was gross. There are no apparent updates to this place. No amenities. There was a heater/​AC but it didn’t even turn on. The parking was very strange. The Max is really loud. We went to bed hearing screeching and eoke up to it screeching. Very obnoxious.

Cleanliness: Clean but some things need replaced/​painted like old vents.
Furnishings: Older style, not an eye soar. However shower needs updated. If you’re tall the shower head will come to your neck.
Mattresses: Terrible. Bed squeaks and you are laying on springs. Both beds in our double queen room were like this. I like hard beds and can tolerate soft beds but these beds were just horrid. If they put any money toward upgrades I’d rather have a comfy mattress than a higher shower head.
Bedding: Nice and more than two pillows on a queen bed.
Appliances: Great: refrigerator, microwave, and coffee pot.
Location is why I paid $ 125/​night. I will not come back.

My friend and I got a room with 2 queen beds at $ 99/​night. I have no complaints and I will return in the future. Beds were comfortable and clean and the room had the necessary basics: a large TV, refrigerator, and microwave, the shower water was hot and the water pressure on point. My friend noted the noise outside but I’m a city person at heart and the use of earplugs easily drowned out any street noise. Check in was painless — a simple preauth for room and tax, no incidentals and they formally charge the card at check out. Its location is excellent, an easy walk to a number of neighborhoods, and the city has an extensive network of city buses and light rail, with a hub nearby in proximity to the Moda Center (arena). Finally, the staff was friendly and helpful. Two thumbs up in my book.

Great proximity to downtown Portland. Transit system was across the street. Alaina checked us in and she was so helpful! I booked through Hotwire and didn’t know if I was going to get 1 or 2 beds. Our room had 1 bed and a rollaway for my 2 boys and I. This was not good news after spending the night on Amtrak. As we were at the door of our room, Alaina came running up to tell us that the couple checking in after us had 2 beds and agreed to switch with us. Now that is going the extra mile! Thank you Alaina!

Great location. Across from the Oregon Convention Center. A few feet away from the MAX light rail. Close to the airport.
A basic, no-​frill hotel. Good prices especially during the high season. Very friendly staff. Highly recommended for those on a budget and/​or tightwads like me!
My room was a bit noisy because it was facing the street where the light rail runs…

Still a great place to stay. Again, if you want luxury etc, this isn’t the place. It’s a good basic hotel at a decent price. I look for economy and location and this place has both. The MAX line close by is awesome.
My room is clean and we have a nice view of the city. Noise doesn’t bother me, I’ve stayed in hotels in SF where the noise is truly atrocious.

What possessed the convention committee to suggest this hotel? It was close to the Convention Center and the Max but the word INFERIOR comes to mind! The hotel is old, worn out and in need of repairs and renovations.
Our room was crusty from the dirty bathroom to the college era refrigerator that rattled all day and night. The AC/​heat unit blew up the curtain and not into the room. The coffee maker was on the bathroom vanity??? Ice was in tied up plastic bags inside a small chest freezer by the elevator. i half expected to see a body in it when opened. Did I mention the beds were different heights?
Noticed there was quite a turnover in front desk personnel even though it seemed as though not many people were booked into it. Took THREE contacts before the feather pillows were exchanged and that was a two day ordeal at that.
By the way, it was noted there was secured WIFI available but when I inquired, the front desk said not so. AVOID this place!!!

This was a good cheap place to stay. For this price it was a nice place compared to other hotels in the same price range.

Going to a conference? Need a place to crash that’s inexpensive? This is the place for you.
The décor is a little outdated and the bathrooms could use a renovation, but I think you’re paying for the location. The MAX is also steps away, so you can easily go into downtown, the airport, or wherever you need to go!
The WiFi is a little slow, so don’t expect to watch Netflix or anything.

When we made reservations we booked a king but they gave us a double queen so when we checked in they cut our price down and that was nice but as we were opening up our room door I look down the hallway and see what looked like a homeless man sleeping outside some room doors. I told the front desk but I believe the man left on his own. I think this says a lot about how much the staff really cares about upkeep of this place. I realize it’s hard to be homeless and I feel for the man but it still made me feel uneasy. I think it would make many people feel uncomfortable.

Its CHEAP. so if you are looking for cheap this is the place.

2 elevators and 5 floors. When the hotel is busy for a convention center event this place is packed and you can wait a while for an elevator.
The rooms are DIRTY. Mattress looked okay when I pulled back the sheets but the box spring is filthy. Floor was Dirty too.
Well nothing looks renovated. The carpet is gross turned my socks black, the tile and shower insert is from the 60’s. the walls are peeling and cracked, there are stains everywhere nothing has been painted. It has popcorn ceilings which are stained grey near the vent which indicate that the air filter was not changed regularly, the rooms smell, the toilet bowl is stained, the tv’s are big 90’s box style that take up the counter space on the dresser,
Room configuration only some rooms have a mini frig.
Wifi is SlOW and spotty.
Night stand is flimsy, no drawer.

My boyfriend and I stayed here during a trip to Portland for a conference. We thought that it would be convenient to be close the convention center where the conference was being held. That ended up being the only benefit to this hotel. On top of being less then clean the smell was unbearable. It had the smell of stale cigarette smoke and occasionally smelt as if someone in the room next to us was lighting up. The shower was made for a child, I am short and had to duck to wash my hair. The water also got scalding hot and then freezing cold.
The power went out the second day we were there and the hallways were so dark that we couldn’t find our room, it was freezing and the elevator didn’t work for the rest of our stay.
I can put up with a lot at a hotel for the right price but this hotel was horrible and I definitely will not be staying here again, no price would make this place worth it.

This was my first time coming to Portland so I was not sure what was the best way to stay close to downtown without spending a lot of money. Stumbled across this hotel through Travelocity and I’m so glad I did! This hotel was about a 20 min walk to downtown which isn’t too bad and right across the convention center. The staff was always super friendly and I would always see them helping tourist find local points of interest. The hotel room was nice came with a lot of standard amenities that all worked perfectly fine. Biggest plus in my opinion would be the amazing view of the city from the huge glass doors. Will definitely be coming back to this hotel next time I come back to Portland.

I see some rave reviews here and some some truly terrible ones. All of them appear to be 100% valid, both ways. My own experience is average. As one other reviewer said, I came to check out Portland, not to stay in the hotel. So here’s a quick synopsis of my own visit:
The Good:
* Coffee machine!
* TV!
* Free Wifi!
* The soap smells great!
* Hot showers!
* Cold A/​C!
* Mini fridge!
* Microwave!
* Friendly staff!
* Elevators!
The Bad:
* No good place to plug the coffee machine in. It ended up on the floor.
* The TV is a CRT. An old massive tube TV. One of the ones that must way 10 lbs per inch of screen.
* The Wifi is not secured. But they gave me a password for it still. This concerns me.
* The soap is super dry.
* Hot showers. Like, scalding hot. Oh and they’re made for midgets. The shower head was around nose level.
* Cold A/​C. Which must have been running for days before I entered the room. I nearly froze. This is Portland, not Phoenix.
* The halls are not made for tall people. I’m only 5’11″, but I almost felt the need to duck in the halls. I probably had a good 6″ of clearance though.
* One of the elevators was out of order for half my stay. Which was probably a good thing, because it sounded like it wanted to eat me each time I rode in it.

Everywhere in the area was booked except for the $ 500 a night hotels, so I didn’t have a choice.
What a dump!
First off the hallway carpeting had blue duct tape holding the carpet down in front of each room door. You would think that they would try to get brown to match the carpet. Better yet, why not have a carpet installer fix it with dual sided hot carpet tape and make it look right.
The place is very dated and has not had a face lift in at least 20 years.
They should at least clean the furniture in my room to remove some of the stains on the chairs.
The bath tub was old and the shower head didn’t work very well.
The TV remote didn’t work very well. I had to press several buttons to get the sound to work. Then the battery must have been weakened by all of the button pressing because I had to move really close to get the channels to change.
The only saving grace for this hotel was the front desk staff. They were very efficient, friendly and took care of me without any issues.
Recommend? Oh hell no!

Terrible!
Upon arrival found out reservation got cancelled by anonymously. Front desk claimed I requested a cancellation the next day after my reservation which blew my mind upside down. SURPRISE!
Finally, booking restated and got ourselves a room. What’s that smell? It’s pee. It’s odor like someone had puke or wet carpet that turned into mold. Go used the toilet, but WHAT??? Seats are broken ??? what kind of Inn is this place???
Forget it, out of the door. Went down to the font desk and requested for a new room. Person at the front desk saw me asked, «It’s the odor?» BEFORE I speak up. Shocking as I am and realized the fucking manager gave us the SMELLY room on purposed? #$%@!
So if you are a shy person who hesitated to speak up, don’t even go. If you don’t want surprise, don’t go. I’d never go back again.

Fabulous location, friendly staff, and amazing views. Booked through Hotwire with good pricing, about $ 30 less than the Red Lion across the street.
First note: when we went in, they couldn’t find our reservation. Pulled it up on my email using their wifi, and discovered that my BF had accidentally booked our reservation for MAY instead of APRIL. No worries, the lady at the front desk honored it and was able to get us a room without any hassles whatsoever, in about five minutes flat.
Now THAT is stellar service!
And the service continued throughout our stay with multiple employees: friendly maintenance in the parking lot, impeccably clean room to return to every afternoon (and extra tubes of their lotion!) and other friendly front desk staff able to answer our questions each day.
This place is under new ownership and it is obvious that they are making improvements– I would disregard any reviews prior to this year. But for my personal experience, everything was great: the rooms were slightly dated in terms of décor, but the view from the 5^th floor (room 501) was great, beds were very comfortable, and though the TV was old, it worked. Wifi was consistently fast throughout our visit. Not sure what else anyone is looking for.
For anyone concerned about safety, I had zero problems leaving my brand-​new 4Runner in the lot without any concerns. I heard a few other rooms slamming their doors in the morning, but other than that, I didn’t hear a peep and «city noise» was nonexistent to my ears.
Definitely planning to revisit soon, if not relocate, and will be staying here again.

Oh hell no.
I’ve stayed in some pretty grungy places before, since I have 2 dogs and I’ve driven across the country 4 times in the past year (don’t ask). But this hotel takes the prize in the I’m-sleeping-with-the-lights-on-and-showering-elsewhere category.
I just caught one of my dogs eating a roach. The room smells like dog crap in one corner and cat urine in another, though it admittedly took a couple hours for the smells to rise up through the cloying air freshener scent that is so heavy it is practically another guest.
This place is DISGUSTING. A random dude who approached me for a spare cigarette In the lot told me his room was so disgusting they made management clean it before he and his friends occupied it. I’m checking out early. Don’t check in at all if you value your hygiene.
