Great service all around. I took both my cars in here with great results on both, the first was my passat wagon that I had gotten a quote on from another popular shop in town for $ 2400 to fix what they said were a variety of problems. Brought it to K&M and left with a bill under $ 80! The problems were all caused by a cracked oil cap which the other shop didn’t even mention. Also brought my turbo beetle in with the assumption I would need new brakes all around. K&M inspected them and noticed that the brakes were still good and had just accumulated some rust which was causing the sound. Great honest shop that I will be using again and again.

I have been going here for a while now, after I read the positive reviews here on Unilocal.
The people at K&M have been great to me and my wife. Before I met my wife, she had been going to Jiffy Lube, which is a huge no no in my book. After that she tried the dealership, but they are expensive. I’ve been hearing strange noises from her car, but the dealership said there is nothing wrong with it. She took it to K&M, and they told her exactly what needs to be fixed. The people at K&M actually do their jobs and take pride in their work.
I’d give them 5 stars if they fixed their driveway entry. It is steep and my WRX easily scrapes when I enter and leave the lot.

These guys have 4.5 stars on 44 reviews. That can’t be easy to achieve at an auto repair shop, but after my first experience with them it all makes sense. I dropped my car off for a really loud squeaking. It was a pretty simple fix.
I dropped the car off at night, left my key in the drop box, got a call at 930 that it was all finished. I was able to pre-​pay over the phone, they left my keys hidden in the car and I used my spare to get in. They even parked the car near the building in the back of the parking lot. I appreciate little details like that. They changed my oil as well, and all for as much as I’ve paid at other places for JUST an oil change.
I always dread taking my car in because I don’t necessarily know what a fair price is, but the price felt more than fair, and I was really impressed with the customer service overall. Needless to say, the car is running great. — Thanks a lot K&M.

Honestly some of the nicest and patient people in the world! I love that they are up front and honest about what’s wrong and what your options are. I know nothing about cars but the quick overview that they give makes sense and checks out. I even accidentally came in on the wrong day for my appointment and they fit me right in despite being swamped.

My car sprung a coolant leak and needed to be repaired ASAP. Word of mouth brought me to K&M Auto on 50^th and Powell. I had my car towed in and talked to the people at the front desk to express the urgency of my situation. They were very empathetic to my situation and more than accommodating to my needs. I had my car back the same day! The technicians and the office folk were so nice and funny AND I was charged a GREAT price! Thank you, K&M Auto for your wonderful service and for helping me out. I’ll definitely return when I need my car serviced.

I brought my pickup in here for some tune up work. They did all the work I asked and my truck is awesome again but when I was looking at some things I need to replace I noticed the fan shroud broken in about 8 different places and held together by rivets and brackets. It had a small crack when I brought it in. Instead of calling me and asking if they could replace it because they broke it, they tried to hold it together and now the shroud broke and fell into my fan damaging it. I would have been fine with paying to order one in but now I have to replace my fan clutch and radiator…

Do you love great customer service and an honest, direct approach? Try K & M. Seriously, they are so nice and competent. Their prices are fair – it’s simply not cheap to do quality work on a vehicle. We brought our Honda CR-​V in for an inspection and oil change, and Jeff and his team were both thorough and mindful that I was waiting there with an inquisitive child. We will be back – though hopefully only for routine maintenance. :D

50^th Avenue location and its team are fantastic! I called K and M out of the blue (after reading other peoples reviews on here) and asked if they had time for me to bring in my car the same day to check out why it was overheating. I expected Jackie to tell me there was no way they could fit me in, but instead she said «yes, bring it on in» and set an appointment for 1pm that afternoon. After a last minute meeting cancellation, I called and asked Jeff if I could come in withing the hour and he still said, «no problem, see you soon»! They were still able to get me right in and back on the road just a few hours later.
I was pleased that they did a complete diagnostic prior to any work and asked my opinion and most importantly, if I had any questions. The repair was reasonably priced and I do feel that I was treated very well.

Best visit to an auto shop I’ve ever had. Came in because tie rods needed to be repaired and were squeaking. They were patient as they rode with me so that they could hear the issue and treated me like an equal. Unfortunately, my warranty company gave me the run around so I didn’t end up getting anything done. K&M didn’t try to persuade me one way or another for any repairs and didn’t even charge me for the diagnostic! Reputable place if I’ve ever seen one. Take your car here – you’ll be glad you did.

Great service and outstanding work! If you’re looking for work on your dodge/​mopar, this is the shop for sure. I’ve been coming here for 3 years after bouncing around to a few different shops. I couldn’t be more satisfied!
The front desk is outstanding! They always call if an issue pops up, for any major issues they encourage me to come down to the shop and see the problem with myself and coming up with a solution with the mechanic. A piece of mind is hard to come by when it comes to auto repair. K & M does a great job making sure I know everything and understanding the solution.
The shop offers a fair rate and they tailor their service to your budget (within reason). So many times I’ve had shops pressure me to spend big money on my beater daily driver, K & M works with me to keep the costs down and my car on the road. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a dependable shop with great customer service!

I hate Jiffy Lube. I feel like even though the prices are cheap as hell your car will be more broken then fixed after you see them.
Regardless I came in to get a bunch of things looked at on my Honda CRV. Team was really friendly and I broke up all the work into two parts. I lagged on the second and got lucky, they sent me a coupon if I brought it in before summer for 20% off.
A few things. Don’t go on a Monday or Friday. The times I went on those days it was insane.
Keep in mind the prices are probably higher than others but… the staff is courteous and friendly, and at the end of the day sometimes that’s all you really need.

I’m new to Portland and thrilled to have found this shop within walking distance of my house. I got a next-​day appointment for an oil & filter change and overall checkup, which took only an hour and at a fair price. The receptionist and technician were super-​friendly, and the shop is clean and pleasant. I highly recommend K&M and am happy to use them for any auto maintenance or repair.

For being the first time away from my dealers they were top notch at customer service. They gave me a loan car free for a week and were always doing their best to keep communication and courtesy. I very much wish I could have seen the repair through, however I ended up transferring to the dealer thinking the repair could have been covered by my warranty. It’s not five stars since I found my dealer would do same repair (which means the diagnosis was correct) for about 600 less. (these were both estimates obviously which i know can change). but Yes I have learned that if in any future situation, or if a friend needs a reliable place, I will happily recommend K & M.

K & M actually deserve a 15 star review — or at least (3) x 5 star reviews for their service.
Here’s my epic saga and how K & M got my car in working order again.
CHAPTER ONE
On top of the fuel light pinging on that morning, Monday of Christmas week my car just wouldn’t start when I went out to lunch. It cranked over but didn’t catch.

I had just put in a new battery, so not that
I gave it a little more gas out of a can, and still no luck
I friend gives an armchair mechanical diagnosis of a clogged fuel filter.
Clearly it’s time for the professionals
I call K & M to see if they can get my car in for diagnostics and repair. Jacquie at K & M was very personable and patient, as this somehow required multiple calls on my part to arrange for the tow and an after hours drop-​off because traffic was so bad.
Jacquie called mid-​morning Tuesday with the diagnosis of a bad fuel pump. They could have it ready for me by Wednesday, Christmas Eve. A gave the go ahead for the work, and they called on Christmas Eve with the car completed on schedule and under the quoted amount. I was out of town for the holiday but they are able to take a text confirmation to run the charge, making that very convenient as well. After Christmas, I picked up my car from their lot.

CHAPTER TWO
When I fill up my gas tank, the fuel gauge reads 2 ticks over ½.
I call up K & M. They said it can happen that a fuel pump has a bad float assembly and that they’ll order a new one. I made an appointment for the following Wednesday. When I arrived they were courteous and my car was ready right at their estimated time. They gave me the key and said thank you.

CHAPTER THREE
I filled up at the nearest gas station – and it read at 2 ticks over ½. Wah-​wah.
I drove the few blocks back to K & M. They brought out a very knowledgeable tech/​mechanic and he explained that there must be some configuration in the fuel tank that is blocking the float from rising to the top. They look online and find another mfg’s part that was shaped different and ordered that one, and got me on the schedule again for the next Wednesday.
So I did a little internet research when I got home. Apparently many Dodge Calibers have had issues with their fuel gauges, and really I was lucky that it had operated properly, ever. I found the MOPAR/​Dodge diagram of the pump assembly, and I emailed it to the Contact Us on their website. Jacquie replied within the hour, saying that looked like the part they had ordered the last 2 times.
Jacquie then called on Friday to let me know that the new part assembly had arrived and was indeed shaped different than the incorrect float assembly. When I dropped the car off on Wednesday morning, they said that it would be ready in an hour and it was as promised. And here’s the above and beyond part, they topped off my tank to make sure that it would read correctly.

Although at least not pushy and very nice, some things they offered recommendations for were unnecessary and/​or overpriced. I felt a bit mislead. Glad my dad used to be a mechanic and knew this, otherwise I would be spending hundreds of dollars –that I desperately need– on things that could be done cheaper or don’t actually need to be done at all. (Like the $ 180 «induction service». No thank you.) Also I just came in for an oil change.
If you have a good amount of extra money to keep your new car in tip-​top condition, and email reminders to get your car serviced and all that, go for it. I’m sure they’ll do a fine job. But if you need to save money and don’t really know about cars? You may want to look around a bit more. Seems you pay a steeper price because of the extra services.

1^st time customer, now a customer for life. Been unhappily going to Jiffy Lube for years, always felt like they took advantage of my lack of knowledge when it came to my vehicle. Very happy with my service at K&M! They were kind and efficient. My car was thoroughly inspected (as it had been parked for long periods months prior) when I brought it in for an oil change. I was given a sheet that detailed things that needed attention in the future, complete with estimates. I even thought it was possibly time for a tune up (which they found to be unnecessary). Bottom line, I didn’t feel hassled or pressured to have unnecessary things done. My service was relatively quick and even for a synthetic oil change, I felt I walked out spending less than I would have at the «other» place.
Thanks, K&M! I will return and I will be recommending!

IMPRESSED! What a neat experience, easy to work and communicate with. Here’s what takes the cake in the honesty/​integrity dept.
Brought my truck in with a starting problem, left it with them and said if it’s $ 300.00 or less just fix it otherwise call me… They called 30 min later to say everything is fine and it’s ready to go, just a quick adjustment.
:))))) I might be still writing a 5 star review had they done whatever and charged me $ 299.00 I was expecting to pay at least that.
So in my book that in itself deserves loyalty to which this mechanic has from me. THANK YOU!!!

I dropped my car off for an oil change, and they fit me in easy enough, so I took a walk and came back an hour later to get the car. Oil change cost $ 35, and I think they do a «premium» one for ~$ 60. When I picked it up they told me I needed a couple of repairs: 1) my water pump was leaking, so I needed to keep an eye on the coolant if I was going to drive it for a while, and 2) my break lights weren’t working, and that it wasn’t a mechanical issue (burnt out bulbs) but electrical. They told me to diagnose the break light problem it would cost $ 75, and then they’d do the repairs.
Well, screw that.
My family’s been going to Ben’s Japanese Auto Clinic for years so when he quoted me a reasonable amount for the water pump, I figured I’d just get all of the repairs done there. Turns out K&M tried to screw me over on two fronts (I was an easy target, probably, since I know next to nothing about cars). First, the coolant they added was the wrong kind for my car– some orange kind instead of the red Toyota kind. Second, turns out that break light problem? The bulbs were burnt out, so I paid like $ 20 to have them replaced and all was well.
So, next time can you guys try to take me from behind can you at least take me to the Taco Bell down the road first? Thanks.

This is a small family business that stands behind the work that they do. They will go out of their way to communicate with you, and make sure their work is right. They also offer a guarantee for the work they provide, and a personal guarantee to keep you covered. It is hard to find honest mechanics, but K&M is a place where you’ll find that honesty.
I have a family member that is a mechanic and able to check all the prices of items, and confirm the rate charged who was able to assure me that they are at a fair market rate for their services. In addition, the issue I initially went in for, my heating system not working in the middle of winter, turned out to be something someone else left unplugged after a music cord installation, and they fixed it at no cost and let me know even though they could have charged me for fixing the heating system and I would have been none the wiser.

At 170,000k miles in 2008, I began taking my 1997 Ford Taurus wagon to Matt, Jackie and the crew at the original SE 50^th site.
Usually, when you begin a review by saying that you don’t know where to begin, it’s a portend of bad news. While it is true I don’t know where to begin because there is so much to say, it is for the completely opposite reason. There is *so* much awesome about this place
They totally understood my limited means, and were the Good Auto Fairy Godmother to my Cinderella Budget. There were always options realistically explained to me, all of which would keep her up and running. My old clunker beat the junkyard time and time again thanks to K & M.
And *not once* did one of their repairs miss the mark. Nailed it every time!
Everyone in the shop — from the coordinators to the wrench jockeys — is chassis to body to engine to tranny savvy. Paying the bill felt the bill made me happy! Great people, doing great work!
Comparison shopping? Never found anyone able to do the work for more than a nominal difference. After a couple three times, I stopped even looking. No one else would have gone the distance to keep it on the road like they!
If your little old grandma lives in Portland, *this* is where you want her to take her car! If you got a rod of beauty, this is where you want to take ‘er. If you have a specialized or commercial vehicle… yeah, that’s right, this is the place!
