Karuna Contemplative Living sells Portland and regionally made meditation cushions, eco-​friendly yoga products, comfortable clothing, jewelry, books and cards. In the back of the store Karuna houses two massage therapists, Wes Burden of somawavetherapy and Stephanie Trotter of deepgroundwellness and has a monthly art exhibit.

History

Established in 2012.

Originally located inside Dava Bead & Trade on NE Broadway, Karuna relocated to it’s own storefront in June of 2015. Karuna brand meditation cushions are made in Portland, Oregon.

Sitting in meditation can sometimes be challenging. It is so important to be comfortable. One could say that, having found a comfortable posture, meditation becomes effortless. Anandi was teaching a meditation program and asked participants if they had a meditation cushion at home. Nobody did. She knew then that her calling was to supply cushions to people so they didn’t have to fold up a pillow or bruise their ankles while their folded legs sat on the hard floor. Karuna’s mission is to supply the Portland community with cushions that are designed for the very purpose of contemplation and meditation. Anandi has been practicing meditation for 35 years and helps people find the cushion that fits their individual body.
