Description

Specialties

A grand Victorian bed and breakfast in a super convenient location with friendly personal service.

Experience a bygone era of comfort and grace. This majestic 1906 Queen Anne mansion, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, transports you to another time. The eight guest rooms (all with private baths) are each unique and emanate Victorian charm. Historic yet up to date, the rooms are air conditioned and equipped with telephones, cable TV, and high-speed wireless internet access. The parlors and dining room are comfortable, spacious, and decorated in period furnishings.

History

Established in 1993.

The house was built in 1905 by Gustav and August Friewald. Gustav was owner of the Star Brewery and St. Elmo’s Hotel in Vancouver, WA. Gustav’s descendants owned the house until 1938. The house was sold and for over 50 years it was essentially a boarding house. In 1992 the owners prior to us purchased, renovated and decorated the house and licensed it has a B&B. We came along 8 years ago ash «high tech refugees» from San Francisco. We came during the last recession in search of honest labor. We think Gustav and Augusta would be proud to see their house today so lovingly restored.

Meet the Business Owner

Steve U.

Business Owner

I grew up in the suburbs of Cleveland, northern New Jersey and northern Chicago — the «suburbs of the East». I went to college in Conneticut and studied Humanistic Psychology. After college I was a social worker in Chicago for 5 years. I got an MBA and moved to San Francisco for 25 years and ended up in software marketing. My partner Dusty and I moved to Portland in 2002 and have have six grown children and 12 grandchildren. Dusty (a good Momon boy who got married early and was drafted to Viet Nam) says that I’m the «gay step-parent of the century». He’s not too specific aobut which century. Go figure.
