Martin’s Gorge Tours

I booked Martin for a Wine Tasting in and around Hood River for my husbands 40^th birthday on August 22^nd, 2015. I reached out to Martin with an idea of a winery or two that I wanted to visit as well as a place to enjoy dinner. Martin arranged tastings at all three places. The wineries that we visited (Wy’East, Hood Crest and Viento) were ready and waiting for our large group of 18. Martin had bottled water for us and we were very comfortable the entire time. I would highly recommend that you use Martin if you ever need a large group shuttled for a tour or a wine tasting. Martin is friendly and communicated with me frequently. He also worked with me on the final head count giving me a little flexibility up until the actual event. To top it off, Martin handed my husband a birthday card at the end of the day. Completely unexpected and such a nice gesture. Thank you so much for a wonderful and memorable birthday!

Daughter Lisa treated us to a guided tour with Martin, just us and we highly recommend his great tour of the Gorge. Picking out great vistas and trails including lots of wonderful waterfalls. A great guide and a really nice guy. We will definitely be back! A very enjoyable and interesting three hours well spent.

Martin was a fantastic guide! He was brave enough to take our family to visit three wonderful wineries. We were also able to tour the Columbia River on the way there. He was extremely accommodating and very knowledgeable. I would highly recommend him if you’ll be visiting the Portland area.

Martin took a group of 15 women for a bachelorette party this past weekend and it was a fabulous tour. He made a great effort to learn everyone’s names and make casual conversation. He was also very flexible when we decided to change up our original plan. His knowledge of the wineries, his relationship with all of the owners, and the ability to help keep 15 women on task and on time amazed me. I would totally go on a tour with him again. Martin gives great tours! He is knowledgeable, personable and has created amazing itineraries. He is overflowing with all kinds of wonderful factoids and is a wealth of information when it comes to the Columbia River Gorge. Whether it be the geography that you’re interested in or wine tasting, he covers all the bases! I highly recommend touring this beautiful region with Martin as your guide.

I had set up a road trip to Seattle and Portland for my girlfriend’s birthday. I had planned my trip to include a wine tour. As things would have it, my original plans were cancelled, and the tour company I had originally scheduled with couldn’t take us for the dates we were available, and they recommended Martin.
From the time I contacted Martin, I could tell we were in good hands. I scheduled a combination tour of the Columbia Gorge waterfalls, and a little wine tasting. Martin even gave me some recommendations on where to stay to make things a bit more convenient and fun.
The day of the tour, Martin greeted us at the lodge where we were staying, and from there took us on a scenic tour of the waterfalls via the scenic highway 30. We stopped off at several spots and he gave us a wealth of info about the sights. We headed to Phelps Creek tasting room in Hood River, where we had the opportunity to enjoy some tasting. Next we headed to the Washington Side of the Columbia River and stopped off at the Pour Moore Tasting room. It was a great experience. Pour Moore was a much more casual experience compared to Phelps Creek. Both were great, and the wines were great. Even better I didn’t have to drive.
As always, there’s never enough time in the day to do all that you want. I plan on being back to explore more of the Columbia River area in the future. And I would recommend Martin to anybody else who wants to explore the Columbia also.

Do yourself a favor and take one of Martin’s tours. I was up in the Columbia Gorge area for a 3-​day meeting and our group scheduled a hike with Martin. It was at the Eagle River/​Punchbowl Falls area and Martin was simply amazing. He’s super knowledgeable about everything in the area, really professional and he made the hike very enjoyable. He’s like you and me except an expert in the local history, foliage, landscapes and best-​practices for hiking the Gorge area. I was very impressed and had a great time!

Highly recommend Martin! 8 of us took a day trip to the Columbia River Gorge and visited 3 very different wineries he selected. Each was very different from the others (wine, personalities, view, background). Stopped on the way to visit a waterfall, had picnic lunch at first winery, and took a slight detour to see kite surfers practice for competition on the Columbia River. The day was awesome thanks to Martin!

The Columbia Gorge is not to be missed on a visit to Portland. We visited petroglyphs, a winery, a microbrewery, waterfalls and Hood River.

I was able to get in on a last minute wine tour with Martin as a celebration of my birthday in early May.
Martin was extremely professional both during booking and during the tour. His response time to my request was answered promptly with a phone call to talk about my questions.
Come tour day, Martin was very pleasant and knowledgeable about the Gorge and the wineries of the area. Martin took us to 3 different small wineries on the Washington side of the Gorge which included Aniche, Cor and Domaine Poullion. All 3 wineries were small, peaceful and very accommodating to our group. The staff was polite and clearly had a good rapport with Martin.
Martin was a conscientious, courteous driver and was very good about checking in with us making sure that we were having a good time. He also provided water and snacks for us.
The wineries we visited are located near Lyle, WA which is about 10 miles East of Hood River on the Washington side of the Columbia Gorge. The wines from these small vineyards are delicious and dry and certainly worth a stop. The scenery is unbeatable, the weather was fantastic and the wildflowers were just beginning to come out.
All in all, I would whole heartedly recommend Martin’s Gorge Tours for any type of tour. I know that my group and I will certainly be back!
