Business Owner

Mona was born in India and moved to the United States when she was 8 months old. Her outgoing personality was forged during the many family moves for her father’s career. For over a decade, Mona has been running MOXY Money, which combines her passion for exceptional customer service and helping people. She has been awarded the Portland Monthly 5 star Mortgage Professional Award consecutively since it’s inception. In 2012, Mona graduated from Bainbridge Graduate Institute (BGI) at Pinchot, with an MBA in Sustainable Business.

Mona has served as the Vice-​Chair of the Multnomah County Advisory Committee on Sustainability and Innovation and on the Budget Committee for The Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, held a leadership position at Women’s Network for a Sustainable Future, and is a member of the Pinchot Board of Trustees. She loves when friends tell her they have been «MONAvated»!

I contacted MOXY after being declined for a home loan through my bank. I knew one of the managers from a previous job and even though I was apprehensive about doing business with a friend, it ended up being a smart move. They discovered mistakes on my credit report that I missed, they were pre-​emptive with gathering documents, they were as speedy as they could be and kept us abreast during the entire process. It was only stressful towards the end when the loan application was out of their hands and in the hands of the title company which really pushed us close to deadline (but that wasn’t Moxy’s fault). We’re in our home now and couldn’t be happier.

Just finished our 4th (5th?) loan with Mona and crew and it was a doozy. Everything that could go wrong did including a hospitalized seller. Moxy staffers were there with super fast answers to questions and very creative problem solving as our deal extended past the planned close date. The Moxy crew is experienced, polite and ready for anything that might come up in the mortgage process. I would whole-​heartedly recommend them to new and experienced buyers alike.

I was in the mortgage business for over a decade and as a consequence, can be hard to please, but Mona and her team constantly exceeded my expectations. Moxy Money did the impossible for us. We have two foreclosures (rental properties) on our record, and our business lost money last year. Moxy got us a 30-​year loan at 3.75%!! That is amazing. Working with Mona and Makael was great, Mona radiates good vibes and competence. The whole team worked their tails off including a reboot of the whole loan after the first lender backed out due to the foreclosures. If you think you can’t qualify for a mortgage, you need to get some MOXY and learn differently!

As a first time homebuyer I naturally found the inherent ambiguity and waiting of closing to cause some anxiety. Thus, I was incredibly pleased to be working with Makael who enthusiastically and with incredible patience guided us through this process. It meant the world to me that she was willing to take my phone calls at any time with a cheerful «Hello» and a sincere interest in answering my questions. Quite frankly, this is one of the best customer service experiences in my life. After talking to many friends and acquaintances about their experiences taking out a mortgage it quickly became clear to me that this is not the usual experience. I feel extremely luck to have had the opportunity to work with Makael, Mona, and their staff at Moxy Money and would highly recommend them to my community.

I cannot say enough good things about Moxy Money!
Working with Mona and Makael is an absolute pleasure. I planned poorly and this is a somewhat unplanned last minute purchase. As such I have some additional issues I need to work around. I didn’t think financing a second home would be possible, but Makael worked hard to find solutions that work.
My endless, sometimes stupid, questions are always promptly answered. Makael truly has the patience of a saint– others would likely have rerouted my emails straight to the trash folder by now.
Financing a house is stressful for anyone– the combination of expertise, responsiveness and the fact that they are just plain nice, really just makes for a less stressful experience. My first home buying experience was nothing like that and I’m grateful to have Moxy Money to work on my loan this time around.
