Napa Auto Parts

The hubby goes here for parts and the occasional tool rental. They have great service and competitive prices.

Not only do they have it if you need it for just about any car or truck or motor-​bike, they have many of the necessities for the proper maintenance of tractors foreign and domestic. Right now, got a tractor that leaks hydraulic fluid like sieve. I call the beast the Antichrist, as I marvel every day that the thing fires back up to life. This daily, mini– miracle is owing in no small part to Napa’s availability of the hardest-​to-​find parts (… and fluid! Very few places in the greater Metro area sell the type needed for this ancient tractor — -thank goodness for Napa! Just one more reason to love the ‘hood of my childhood there in No Po…). Prices are super reasonable, frequently better than other local standy’s Baxter’s and Radkes. The service folks working the counters I’ve found to be highly knowledgable and friendly to boot. So what’s not to love?

I pretty much quit going to another nearby auto parts store after an experience I had a few years ago. I was looking for a replacement for an oddball solenoid, and the folks at Brand X auto parts wouldn’t even bother helping me find a two wire, 6 volt replacement without a make and model of vehicle. I asked whether they could just pull up two or three from 6 V system cars, and I was given the brush off. Good bye!
I THEN went to Napa. This is the warehouse for this area, and they have nearly everything. The folks at the counter are very knowledgeable, and not unafraid to tell you that you probably don’t really need more expensive part A because less expensive part B will last twice as long and cost 25% less.
I now don’t go much of anywhere else unless I am simply buying a consumable, like a quart of oil. Yes, they are sometimes a little higher-​priced than the other stores, but many other stores make up for it in screwing up and giving you the wrong part, or in sheer aggravation and irritation.

This is the best auto parts store in Portland, hands down. It’s their warehouse location so they almost always have what I need, and if they don’t they can pull it from another store and have it there within a couple hours.
The counter guys are super helpful and don’t mind hunting through a print catalog to find an obscure part, or pulling two or three versions of something from the warehouse so I can look at them and make sure I get the right one. That means a lot.
Of course NAPA only sells high quality parts and has very competitive prices so you can’t really go wrong choosing their parts over Shucks, Autozone, etc. They also have a 7% discount for AAA members which always helps save a couple bucks.
Best of all they are within walking distance of my house, and they’ve saved my butt a number of times when I’ve got my car torn apart and realize I need another part to get it finished.

…So after the whole non-​experience we had with Baxter Auto Parts in St. Johns, the hubby and I were completely happy with the service we received at Napa Auto Parts, just down the street. Friendly staffer thoughtfully explained the different kinds of tire chains, then went over the instructions for donning and doffing the chains I ultimately chose. We put them on in the parking lot, so we could maybe avoid yet another stuck moment in the streets of St. Johns, driving around the heffalump-​like bodies of dead buses on the street corners. They worked beautifully. Bit of a struggle to get them on, but hey, there’s a learning curve with everything. Kinda spendy, too, but I’m the one that had to get the AWD, necessitating two pairs of tire chains.
And we made it to the airport without any trouble the next morning, which was our main goal.
