Don’t ever bring your kayak here for repairs. I brought my eddyline in with a small ding in the keel. They assured me they could repair it with a white epoxy to match. When I got it back they had used a yellow epoxy that looked like a kindergartner put it on with their fingers. Not only did the glue look like crap but thy had sanded the surrounding area with an 80 grit sandpaper leaving deep scratches that I will never get out. When I asked them why they didn’t use white they said they just used what they had on hand. Rather then getting the correct products that decided to ruin my kayak instead. I’ve purchased all my kayaks and gear here. Now I don’t think I will ever go back.

AWESOME day today on my new paddleboard! Thanks to Dan at NextAdventure and other staff who all gave me zero BS and spent nearly three hours helping me evaluate EVERYthing including quality price purpose attitude ideal uses habits OR and WA adventures and so on. Really engaging and fun. Well, I bought the right board for me yesterday and had a blast this afternoon. So stoked that they were so open and willing to be involved in my decision. Seriously, Dan is knowledgable and generous with his ideas and time. Rack Attack was an excellent choice, too. #SUPconvert #addictedtoSUP

Went into this shop willing to spend $ 1000+ on a kayak plus a few hundred for a rack and not a single soul tried to help me or ask what I was looking for.
The only person that acknowledged my existence was the guy working the register who said hello.
I saw plenty of workers milling about not busy.
Saw plenty of other customers that «looked» like they had more money being helped. Welp that’s just $ 1500 bucks I’ll take elsewhere.
Step up your service game.

Good product — employees absent.
Trying to get someone to help is pretty funny. 5 people huddled around cash register in front sharing stories, didn’t notice the 10 customers walking around the store. 2 people in back playing on social media on computers. Even laughed at us when we said it’s crazy to try and find someone to help us. 2 people hanging out with them drinking sodas and cracking jokes.
$ 169 kayak rack was a good deal. We saw it online and knew what we wanted to buy. Didn’t ask us if we knew how to set it up, if we needed anything else. Went back to their computers.

I just had such a great SUP class with Aaron! He is a really knowledgeable instructor and so patient and kind. He was able to modify the class to meet the needs of individual participants and everyone learned so much. He was very systematic about how he presented information and knew when we were ready for the next level of challenge. It was honestly the most fun I’ve had in ages! Thanks, Aaron!

Got a chance to take the SUP 1 class and had a great time! Aaron was an awesome guide and I think I fell in love with yet another way to spend my time outside.

HUGE FAN of Next Adventure after our kayaking tour of the Ross Island! Every day they have two tours: one in the morning and the second one starting at 1 pm. The beau and I signed up for the 1 pm tour which was perfect because the weather was nice (in the 90’s) and there were tons of activity on the river!
We met up with our group at Sellwood Park and learned a few basic instructions before we headed to the river. Honestly, we didn’t get any guidance about how to actually maneuver in the kayak but it turns out the Willamette is super calm and the kayaks we had were large/​long which makes for easy balancing.
The route started from Sellwood Park and stretched past the floating river houses and Oregon Yacht Club. On the way back we kayaked behind the houses to see the view from behind.
I highly recommend Next Adventure for all your kayaking needs whether it’s a class or rental!

Okay I love this store!
I went in ready to buy a fishing kayak and got friendly service but lacking in some knowledge that was unique for what I was looking for. Went in to pick up my new craft and went home to the coast. Got home and realized that there was still some missing elements. Called the shop and Eric was more then helpful, I was bummed and he knew it. He called Hobbie and got an «ambassador» to come to the store the next day, this guy (dang my bad memory for names), was super cool and very knowledgable. Between him volunteering his time and Eric two hours later my boat is dialed in. I will continue to support this homegrown store and I suggest you do the same!

My sister and I took a class yesterday to see what SUP is all about. The two hour class was awesome! Next Adventure has the best intructors and great equipment provided. Would not hesitate in highly recommended this intro class.

Bought a Groupon for a kayak tour. Was told that we had reservations for three on a certain date. When we called for confirmation they said they were full on the day we reserved. There was no compensation for the mix up. We were given an alternate time for the same day. We called right back, after checking to make sure that time would work for everone in our group, to reserve the new time and they were closed! The three of us were looking forward to this tour for months. It’s unfortunate, but likely we will not buy this Groupon again.

We went paddle boarding and it was really fun. I would recommend it. There were only three of us in the class. The instructor was fun and friendly.

Awesome customer service. Friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. As far as whitewater lessons/​rentals go there’s certainly no better outfitter in Portland area.
As an aside I’m an avid whitewater kayaker and have dealt with many local stores across the country and Next Adventure stand out as my favorite. My good friend is a recreational kayaker and has had similarly positive experiences with this outstanding staff as well.
Whether you are getting into the sport, or are a seasoned veteran traveling in for the northwest creek season, this is your store!

Bought my second kayak here and a bunch of accessories too. The staff has always been friendly and interested in helping out. Good selection and used stuff too. Glad to have a shop like this nearby.

These guys really ice my cake. Their knowledgeable staff saves me when I swim out of my kayak on really gnarly waterfalls. And they look great. I mean really jacked and tan.

I wanted to buy 2 whitewater helmets. I know REI carries a whopping 1 item to choose from and I was hoping that this would be more plentiful selection.
I was not wrong, they had a whole bunch of ones to pick from. I’ve always had one provided for kayak rentals in the past so I’ve never gotten to fit my own helmet and I was a little confused by how to decide between the (roughly 20) helmets that they had. The employee was pretty useless also. I think that some of the other employees were knowledgeable based on what I overheard them tell other customers, but the one I got sucked.
I will try a few other places then might come back here and ask a different person to help.

Way cool! A sales person spent a lot of time with me teaching me about the variety in paddles and what they offer, both benefits and drawbacks. I took his advice and ended up buying a paddle. I tried it out and like it. I’ll be back again when I’m in town for my other kayaking needs.

This place was fantastic. I bought an inflatable Kayak (Hobie Mirage 9′) and I loved it. Everyone associated w/​my purchase was fantastic. Jake was even kind enough to take some items back that I found out I really didn’t need.
I am really not a ‘review’ kind of guy but I felt this was such an exceptional experience I just had to tell people about it I love to shop local and not give into the large chain stores. This place came recommended to me so I am happy to recommend it to others.
I look forward to returning and supporting this great local treasure!

Kayaking on a rainy September afternoon? Sounds like fun right? Well it was. We arranged the 2 hour Ross Island Tour.
The personable crew at Next Adventure made sure novices like me knew the basics before setting out on the water. As a group, we are given a basic overview of how to operate the amenities within the kayak, which consists of foot petals and the seat adjustment. Next and very important lesson is how to paddle effectively.
We are all very excited to learn how to get into our kayaks without getting wet… everyone seemed a little nervous. After all, if you fall in… well, it is the Willamette — it is practically a sewer. YUCK. There were cigarette butts and other gross things floating by…
So without incident, everyone made it into their kayak, we had a lovely time paddling around. Around the island we saw a few blue herons, some geese; a lot of fish were jumping back in the channel. There was always a Next Adventure escort nearby should anyone be in need of assistance or helpful paddling tips.
I did have a weird smell on my wet clothes when I was done. I could not get to the shower fast enough. But the kayaking itself was great fun and the people at Next Adventure were great.

I may be Type A in all sorts of ways, but I am a major procrastinator around the holidays. I just have way too much on my plate and tend to start holiday shopping really late. And in an effort to avoid the malls, I went to Next Adventure to load up on outdoor gear for the family.
I’ve been to Next Adventure a few times during the past year and am sort of luke warm on the place. I find it a bit cluttered and disorganized and if I had small children with me, the chances of losing them among the racks would be high. [1]
But then as I was leaving the store, I noticed that they moved their water sports merchandise to a separate building called the Next Adventure Paddle Sports Center. The store is spacious, the closeout deals are excellent and the staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I was amazed at how different my experience was from my dealings at their main store. They are especially wonderful if you paddle on a dragon boat team.
So what started off as a ho-​hum lets get this over with shopping trip, turned into one of the highlights of the season. Since my family spends a lot of time on the water and our boats outnumber our cars, this is pretty much my idea of retail heaven. They told me this is a temporary location, so they’ll be moving to new digs in the vicinity early in 2010. Paddle on, boys, paddle on!
[1] Btw, this totally happens. Kids love to walk under and through racks and when I was young my parents lost me for hours when I wandered off and decided to take a nap underneath a sea of comforters.
