The seafood chowder was hands down the best I’ve ever eaten and the fish and chips were delicious. My wife had the mussels and said they awesome. Plus our waitress Sarah was a delight and most helpful.

Not a bad place to hang out with friends or on a date a few times a year. They should probably revisit their hours, as there was a queue forming outside at 5:30pm on a Sunday because the business was incomprehensibly closed at this time. What else do you expect people to do in the middle of a cold March weekend? Extend your hours, especially to help pay Old Port rent! When I visited a few weeks ago, the service was a bit gruff and unfriendly, but perhaps they are just trying to live up to the ‘seedy’ vibe that one typically attributes to pool halls? Although if this were the case, I’m not sure how they could justify having only cider on tap. How many nefarious types are playing pool, comparing scars, planning bank heists, dodging parole officers, and drinking… cider? Other than cider on draught, they have a wide selection of bottled beer. The pool hall itself is fine. The tables are a bit worn, but serviceable. They played a strange collection of rap music when I was there last. Overall a fine experience, and a great way to kill a few hours.

Ever since I moved to Portland, this place has been my default«I don’t know where the heck to go and every other place is crowded and I just want to talk with my friends» place. I do love playing darts there — the darts nooks are great for taking over and being a goof with the friends you have that like that sort of thing. Play Truth or Darts — a game we made up once there. The nook provides a good space for some gentle buffoonery. Pool is fun here too — but I always feel like an amateur and I am taking up space for the more serious pool players. Everyone seems like a serious pool player to me. Drinks here are not spectacular, I usually just get a beer. People usually don’t come here for the drinks. However — the gem of this place are the tables that line the windows. It’s a great place to perch and observe Fore Street and just talk. It’s very pretty in the winter — watching the snow fall and people bustle on the street.(Bustle — it’s what people do on streets. It’s bustling all over) I just know it’s a reliable place to be able to have good conversation when all the other places are crowded and loud because you thought going out on a Saturday night was great idea and oh my god this is why I don’t go out on weekends because it’s loud and crowded and I am OLD.

I’ll give it the fact that the location is good… but thats pretty much it. The tables are pretty decent and clean but all show some wear. The booze is mostly cheaper stuff or bottles and the«bar» is dinky. Fancy billiards place this is not, but you could definitely have fun here when you just wanna shoot some pool. The price is fair, the space is decent in size. Also has some darts which is fun as well — when the darts aren’t falling apart. Good to know its here when you don’t want to just be at a bar but nothing to remember for a place.

Standard pool place which is conveniently located in the old port, for when you don’t really feel like drinking. It’s located on the 2nd floor, so you have to take a random stairway to get up to it. Eight or ten tables(I can’t remember) and 4 dart lanes(free, just ask for the darts at the bar). Okay bar with friendly staff. Nothing to write home about. But a good place to go for some darts or pool.

Pinball machine, free darts and plenty of pool tables. Pretty much just what I was seeking when I visited.

Okay so I do not really understand some of the other reviews on here. Its a billiard hall people not a upscale bar. I mean honestly, «we asked for better service and got kicked out». Who the heck does that seriously? When going here we were greeted by the bartender, it is clean and has incredible windows with a view. We came for a drink and a round of pool. Its a relaxed atmosphere, not loud or smokey. Check it out if you wanna play some pool.

This place is a dump. Terrible service and when you request good service they get upset and kick you out. Never bring anyone here unless you want to have a terrible time.

Spent NYE here this year with new friends and family after a family wedding the night before elsewhere. The casual atmosphere was just what the tired but fun-loving wedding party and guests required. We reserved billiards tables, tossed at the dart boards and rocked the pinball… only thing missing… foosball. Despite the busy bar, the bartender recalled my name and my drink of preference with little to no prompting, fairly impressive considering the number of tabs she had to keep track of through the evening. The bar selection itself was great, beers, and various spirits, including my favorite — Hendrick’s which is not always found. I can’t speak to a wine list, as I didn’t go the wine direction that night. Fun was had by all and we ordered up pub casual food which was delivered to the high tops by the windows. I recommend the flatbread and the homemade fish sticks. The lobster stew was a favorite as well, though I didn’t try it. Even the thick & greasy onion rings went over well when we are normally a thin onion ring kind of group. Be warned, at least on that night, they were carding EVERYONE, no matter your apparent age. At least a few of the parental generation were caught by surprise!

I liked this place. It’s around the corner and up a steep flight of stairs(shades of «The Hustler») from the Tavern proper. I went right at opening on a Saturday(4:30PM) and had the place to myself for the half hour I played on my own. One one side of the pool table area is a small bar with some stools and, on the other side, a bank of windows above Fore Street offers a nice view and some natural light. The table I played on was in very good shape and the house cue was fine. I think it could get a little on the ‘cozy’ side if it’s busy. Not sure if I’d hang here unless I had an interest in pool.

Bartender was a little slow, and the jukebox on random was dreadful. We asked to put on the audio of the game, but the bartender couldn’t figure out how to do it. Nice atmosphere, abundant billiard tables and TV’s, good darts. Prices were OK($ 7 per hour of pool, darts were free, drinks a bit pricey). Kitchen was closed so we didn’t get to sample the food unfortunately. This place is open late and on a great street with lots more nightlife. Overall, it’s worth a night out with a date or some friends.

Empty except for the people I came in with, it’s a good place to play pool. The food is OK with small portions, and the drinks are… well drinks. If you weren’t going to play pool, I see no reason to come here.

I went here on a Monday when there was no one here other than the bartender and one of her friends(the place also looked empty on Sunday when I walked by). They have a nice large space but the location on the second floor, the tiny bar, or the mediocre service might account for the lack of customers. They have about 6 or so pool tables and 5 dart boards with their own separate areas. With such an emphasis on darts you would think they would be well maintained but I have never seen dart boards in such need of replacement and the bartender had to search a while to find chalk so I could keep score. If I was with a group of people really interested in having a night of playing pool and darts I would come here but otherwise I’d probably go elsewhere.

You could probably head up here any night of the week and get a table right away. Very nice atmosphere, fantastic windows looking out at the old port, jukebox, free darts, a flat $ 6 an hour for a table(not $ per person like some crapbag places), average drink prices, tv’s playing sports and the bar staff is always nice. They even walk around and wipe chalk scuffs off the felt of your table. The availability in the tourist season might change but as of now it’s a great place to hit up.

The bar is kind of pricey, but the atmosphere is great. It’s got these huge windows looking out over the street, and tall ceilings. Plenty of pool tables, and probably 6 dart boards. Relatively quiet for a weekend night.
