When I dreamed up Opaline I envisioned a fun, casual, non-​salsey skin studio for people who saw the value in pampering their skin… which also happens to be the largest organ in the body. I wanted to create a comfortable space for people to learn about their skin, feed it with organic goodness, and deeply relax. I believe I have succeeded in creating this vision.

Opaline is also happy to offer Sugaring, a natural alternative to waxing.

History

Established in 2009.

Opaline started out in NE Portland off of MLK and Alberta and has since moved to the Pearl District. Opaline is known for enhancing clients comfort in their own skin through custom treatments that leave the skin glowing and the spirit alive!

At Opaline, we address concerns, make recommendations (including lifestyle and diet) and help match clients to products that will suit their skin type.

I am an Aveda trained esthetician and have been working in the beauty industry for over 12 years. The majority of my experience is in skin care working with some of the top skin care brands in the cosmetic industry. I am a professionally trained make-​up artist with training from MAC, James Ryder, and other top cosmetic labels.

I love what I do. The close relationships I build with my clients are very rewarding and they are the reason I do this. My goal is to help you obtain your ideal beauty, whether it’s a beautiful complexion, elegant make-​up or bare skin.

After trying 5 locations throughout town for sugaring services, this is definitely my preferred spot. Laura was extremely nice from the beginning and is pleasant to chat with; she also is excellent at what she does. Her place is welcoming and comfortable and there’s two-​hour parking right outside the building. Plus, her prices are quite fair, so really, no need to look further, particularly if sticking to the west side is more convenient anyway. Love coming here and hope she experiences even greater success!

I’ve had many facials in the past, and this was by far my favorite. The products Laura used were amazing on my skin and smelled wonderfully. I had also never experienced sugaring before and I was pleasantly surprised! Laura did an excellent job on my eyebrows, and kept me in the loop on the work she was doing — very comforting. I left feeling super relaxed, signed up for more services in the future AND bought a gift certificate for my sister. Highly recommend going!

Laura was wonderful, the whole experience was very pleasant. This is the way to go, much rather this than wax, she kept my mind off the process too. Very clean and welcoming little studio. I first found Opaline with a groupon for sugaring. Typically I don’t go back to groupon places but I LOVE Opaline! Laura is great: professional, friendly, and fun. Though the space is a bit sketchy to get to once you get in there Laura makes you feel so comfortable no matter what part of your body she is working on. I love that Laura always remembers who I am and what we talked about at my last appointment. Her prices are completely reasonable and the products she uses are the best!

Laura is THE BEST! I have been doing her monthly subscription facial package for about six months now and it is the best part of my month! I have very sensitive skin (eczema prone) and have had bad dryness around my nose for years. I had just resigned myself to the fact that I was going to have to deal with it. Since starting my monthly facials with Laura, I have seen that dryness get better and better and it is now practically non-​existent! She is seriously a miracle worker.
In addition to majorly improving the quality of my skin, I feel amazing and relaxed every time I leave her studio. My face is glowing and feels so refreshed. She also has some amazing products and excellent advice as far as which ones will best suit your skin type/​issues. I never feel like shes just trying to sell me lots of stuff, like I have felt at other places. In fact, she always offers me generous samples of things and has even said that she prefers that I try things before committing to buying them. I HIGHLY recommend going to Opaline for all your skincare needs. I won’t go anywhere else!

I travel from Gresham to Laura’s location in The Pearl. The service I have received with the sugaring and facials has been top notch.
I was nervous when I first went to see Laura for a facial after a bad experience elsewhere. She talked me through every step and allowed me to relax and enjoy the visit.
The skill and professionalism Laura exhibits gave my the confidence to try some of her other services, I have had her sugar my brows and underarms and think I’ll start having my legs done next.

I’m going to preface this by saying that Laura was very nice and this review has nothing to do with her as a person, but as a sugaring esthetician…
Not great. Mind you, I’ve been sugared numerous times before by another sugaring expert. I had my underarms and brows sugared by Laura. My eyebrows and general eye area were sensitive for a couple days. A couple of days of sensitivity from sugaring is NOT normal. And what is even less normal? Extended redness. My underarms are still sore and red, FOUR DAYS LATER.
When she was pulling the sugar off, it kept getting stuck, thus causing a much more painful experience than sugaring ever should be. Definitely not returning.

I absolutely recommend Laura and Opaline. Several months ago, I started seeing her for sugaring services with a Groupon. She is very welcoming, friendly, but also very professional and does great work. Her work space is always clean and inviting. Laura warned me my first sugaring session would hurt, and she was right — ouch! But she joked with me the entire time and made the process as comfortable as possible, and since then my sessions have been quick and almost pain free. If you’re looking for hair removal in Portland, sugaring with Laura is absolutely the way to go.

My friend recommended me to try sugaring. I found myself at opaline spa because of groupon. Laura is great. She’s super open and cheerful. We ended up laughing throughout our appointment. And for those who wants to try sugaring, it’s great! My skin is usually red and irritated after waxing. But after sugaring, it wasn’t red at all and it wasn’t irritated. Definitely try!

Highly recommend Opaline! I first started seeing Laura for Sugaring services after finding her on Groupon. She is GREAT! The services are awesome, she’s talkative and really makes you feel comfortable from the moment you walk in. I’m looking forward to seeing her for a Facial as I’ve heard those are fantastic as well.
Only note: Make sure you read her email you get for the appointment confirmation. It includes instructions on how to enter the building and her extension so she can buzz you up. I had to dig through my emails to find the info once I got there so I want to save everyone else some time.

I am a summer visitor and was looking for a facialist in Portland. Bingo! Thanks to Unilocal,I went to Opaline. Laura’s warm greeting, and a warm and welcome «suite» where you can just let go and relax was appreciated. The facial was excellent and my husband never comments, but he loved the cream that she used on my arms. Oh, I think I forgot to mention that she gives a wonderful massage of the arms and hands. Loved it!
I am going to buy a bottle of the body cream to take home. Made my «old» skin feel young and soft! All of her products are natural and organic.
I look forward to returning to Opaline to have another facial!

This is my first Unilocal review but I felt compelled to share what an amazing facial and massage I just had with Laura. My skin is glowing and the wonderful aromatherapy is still lingering. I will probably be sorry if I cant get an appointment because everyone finds out what a gem Opaline is, but sometimes it isn’t right to withold the praise when someone is this good. So ahead and make an appointment. You deserve it!
