Oro Di Napoli

My husband and I live in the area and love going to Oro di Napoli! We go every few weeks and each time are greeted like old friends. The waitresses remember us and the chef always comes by and says hello and checks how we are liking his delectable meals. The food is very very tasty and although we order something different each time to keep trying new dishes, they are continually impressive. The service is spot on and the restaurant has an upscale feel without being too pricey. There aren’t many good Italian restaurants in the NE and this spot is a hidden gem — we will definitely go back.

Wow. Amazing pizza and pasta. It’s the real deal. I like getting one pizza and one pasta to split with my wife or my buddy Tyler. Can’t figure out why it’s not balls-​crowded, except that it doesn’t have an Atari or ping pong table, or some gimmicky hip feature to suck people in. Sure, it doesn’t have the 2 hour line that Tasty’s does across the street (and I’m not dissing Tasty’s, I love Tasty’s.), but if you just want some fantastic, authentic bites that are quite frankly not that expensive, then this is your jam.

I don’t know why this place is never crowded because it should be packed every night! The pizza is some of the best I’ve have had in a portland. The pasta is super fresh and delicious as well. I hope more people start going here because I don’t want them to leave the neighborhood. If you’ve thought about going here, or even if you haven’t, do yourself a favor and try it.

After two visits, I have to conclude that the food is just not very good. The wood fired pizza started with a good crust and goes downhill from there. Grilled vegetables on a pizza should not be drowning in a puddle of broth. The dipping bread was bland and soft. The mista salad was drenched in far too much heavy dressing.
If the onions are going to be caramelized, it should be noted on the menu.
The staff should not start mopping the kitchen with smelly water and spraying chemicals on the tables before the restaurant closes.

I went here with a group of friends on Saturday night. We ordered some special appetizers: prosciutto wrapped arugula with a balsamic reduction sauce (really good), calamari with white beans (not bad), and meat balls (fantastic!!!). For the main course I ordered shrimp scampi with pesto pasta. Really good. The basil pesto was almost perfect. Sometimes it can be really salty and this wasn’t. Most people in our group ordered pizza and they were well liked. A couple people ordered the porchetta. One person really liked it and the other said it was flavorless. For dessert I had the tiramisu. I thought it was good until someone thought it tasted like garlic.
We had really good service and nothing weird happened in the restaurant or in the kitchen.

These are not the same pizzas I had last fall.
Half was 4 stars and a little puffier on the edges and a little gloppy towards the center (yes, yes I know «Authentic pizza is like a wonderful soup» B.S.). Half the pizza crust was fine but half was a little under. It all seemed the same thickness so maybe it’s just the random hot and cool spots that occur when using a wood fired oven.
I’ve experienced none of the service hiccups mentioned in other reviews.

Forget the weird «bad» reviews you’re seeing on here. this place is excellent! Their salads are fresh and very tasty. I’ve had the antipasto (meatballs) as my main meal once and have had their pizza Americano as my main meal another time. VERY satisfied! I’ll keep coming back. I like the fact that they make their pizza crusts a bit more soft rather than crunchy. but they will make them crunchy for those who want it that way.
Give them a shot. I have been very happy eating here and will continue to eat here.

Very disappointing; all their tomato products come out of cans — ugh, not healthy at all. The pizza was so so. Service was fine though.

I was so excited to give this place a try and was terribly disappointed. First, of the limited pizza toppings, they were out of one of the only vegetables. So we improvised– no big deal. Second, the menu states that if you want a crispy crust, you need to ask. Kind of curious what you get if you don’t ask for crispy, because it was doughy and slimey and yet burnt on the bottom. My «pizza» came out sans cheese and the result was that all of the ingredients were slimey and fell off the pizza. I sent it back. My boyfriends pizza had cheese, but again, the crust was foul. The one thing I will say was positive was that our waitress was an absolute doll. Very attentive and apologetic. If you are craving pizza, do yourself a favor and walk the block to Pizza-​a-​Go-​Go, where you can score 2 huge and delicious slices and a couple of beers for less than one of the disasters they serve here. That’s what I did immediately after leaving.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this authentic Italian gourmet spot here. Their Broccoli Rabe was just heavenly! I’ve travelled all around Europe, but I have to admit that the quality of food at this restaurant was not compromising at all with very reasonable price. I would recommend all my friends visiting Portland to check out this place. Deliciosso!!! Can’t wait to go back…

I’m surprised at many of the negative reviews. My husband (formerly a chef) and I consider ourselves to have enough experience to recognize good quality food, and this place has it. The service Dana provided was excellent, she was attentive and knew the menu and wine selections very well. The pizza was superb as well as the salads. Fresh and delicious. This restaurant will make it for sure, it is not inexpensive but you get what you pay for.

I hate writing negative reviews for places that have only been open for a limited amount of time, but Oro Di Napoli needs some constructive feedback because i want this neighborhood spot to succeed.
Let me start with the atmosphere, which as others have noted is pretty underwhelming. It is a comfortable space (not too crowded, not too empty) and has a lot of potential, but the lighting is all wrong and turns a potentially nice space into someplace i would not want to dine in. The cooking area is bathed in some *VERY* bright florescent lights that spill out into the dining area. I sat facing the kitchen and found the glare from the kitchen to be very distracting. Secondly (and minorly) the industrial looking pendant lighting does not go well with the tuscan style painted walls, but this could easily be overlooked if they get rid of the the florescent lighting in the kitchen.
The food is ok, but nothing great. The crust is more on of a flatbread type of consistency (similar to the pies at Via Tribunale). The toppings were of decent quality but the seasoning was non-​existent. My wife ordered a Margherita pizza and it came with a single piece of basil and the sauce was completely devoid of taste — very bland. I ordered the Portland pizza (rapini and sausage) and was also disappointed. While the rapini was full of flavor, the sausage was either completely flavorless of completely overwhelmed by the strong bitter rapini flavor. Additionally, the rapini pieces did not seem to be trimmed in anyway so when i took a bite of the pizza all the rapini from the entire slice came with it.
The service was so so. Although the place was not very crowded, our waitress was not very attentive and it took about 10 minutes of waiting to finally get the check. When we asked to take our leftovers with us, she returned with 2 mangled looking pieces of foil and just dropped them off at our table for us to wrap them ourselves. I am all for self serve, but this just came across as poor service.
Finally, i found everything to be a little too pricey given the aforementioned shortcomings. The pizza’s were mostly $ 17 (compared to $ 14 or $ 15 at most similar places) and on the small side. The beer was $ 6 for a 12 oz bottle — not even a full pint. With this in mind, i don’t feel like Oro Di Napoli is good value for the money.
Bottomline: With so many pizza choices in Portland, Oro Di Napoli needs to do better. If they want to be a good neighborhood spot, they have some work to do to be on par with Lovely 50 – 50 or Firehouse which are only a few blocks away.

We’ve tried them 3-​times now. The staff is very pleasant but our waitresses have been inexperienced/​under trained so the overall dining experience is very uneven.
Entrees for a table of 4 did not come out together 2 out of 3 visits. 10 min. wait between first entrée, why?! We found ourselves having to ask for things that we should not — more water, wine, beer, side plate for apps, oil for bread, salt & pepper, cream & sugar for coffee — really? It’s not even busy. Also, don’t tell us what’s on the dessert menu and then say the owner’s daughter had the last piece so we’re out of everything but the…
The décor needs serious help. Aside from the beautiful large glass chandelier, the décor could not get any more lackluster. It’s more in line with someplace called House of Pizza than Oro Di Napoli…
Portions are small, selections not very diverse, flavor is just ok, pizza crust is thin & «floppy» — i like a little crisper crust. Based on all this the prices are too high.
Chefs are from Italy so I’m hoping they work out the menu and timing after being open awhile.
Please get it together before people give-​up.

Decided to check out this new Italian Pizzeria in our area. I will start with the positive the pizza was good and had quality ingredients. Now on to the other areas.
Atmosphere:
We were there on a Saturday night and it was definitely a draw for the kid crowd and never switched over to the adult groups. I think some of it has to do with the atmosphere. There is a large bright florescent light fixture over the cooks area that shines brightly into the dinning area. Not good for setting the mood for a nice meal. There is also the ice maker, soda machine and cooler with wine and beer at the other end, fully exposed. So those two things just cheapened the atmosphere and made it more diner like. Then because of that we felt the prices were a bit high for the atmosphere.
Food:
As I mentioned the pizza is good (but not great). We ordered a Margherita for $ 14 and added prosciutto for an additional $ 4. So as I mentioned it is priced as gourmet pizza and it is good but doesn’t fit the surroundings. It is more doughy than Ken’s but smaller diameter to put it in perspective. We saw the pizzas were a bit small so ordered a side of pasta — Spaghetti Pomodoro. For $ 12 it could fit in my hand and had very little sauce and the sauce was very bland. Do not order this pasta you will feel ripped off both for the cost and the lack of flavor.
Wait staff:
I think they still have some training to do here but everyone was very nice at the restaurant. Our first waiter was nice to give me a taste of the wine before I decided. Then I said yes he gave a generous pour but pulled it away fast and spilled some on the floor. They switched our server part way through and there was some confusion about when we wanted our dishes. Overall they have very nice people working there just need more training. Again it goes back to the overall atmosphere feeling cheaper than what I think they are trying to achieve.
I wish them the best and hope they can make some improvements.

We had high hopes for Oro Di Napoli since they are an Italian place in our neighborhood, which seems to be lacking, and its first two reviews were five star.
However, the service was poor, and the food bland. We sat in an empty restaurant and waited for someone to take our drink order. Some friends of the owner stopped by and were promptly served drinks while we waited and waited. Finally we had our waitress come by and take our drink order, our third choice as the waitress informed us that they were out of 2 types of beer.
My girlfriend ordered the Calzone which was tasty, but nothing special for $ 17. I waited another several minutes for my linguini with mushrooms and pancetta, which had shrimp added not by request, but to appease us for the wait. It was bland, and I don’t really care for shrimp. The linguini was also somehow under cooked after the additional wait.
Also, we had no refills on our water, and no one ever asked us how anything was, or if we needed another beer when we finished ours.
We will not be dining here again.

I am a London native who already appreciates quality food, and I have to say the food here is very authentic. This is a much needed up and coming Italian restaurant on the N/​NE side. The kitchen staff are native Italian and clearly have their hearts in the food. A Diamond in the Rough that doesn’t have the «Portlandia» line outside yet. Tania, let’s have lunch!

Great Italian food!!! I’ve had Italian food around the world and I must say this is an authentic restaurant. The service is excellent and the staff are extremely pleasant. This is a must eat!!!

A fantastic new Italian spot with great food and wood fired pizzas. An evolving menu and growing wine list will surly put this location over the top in this incredible location that gets better by the day.
