The owner, Peter Verrill, has a disturbing and violent criminal background. He has also stated publicly that if you support the 2nd Amendment you are not welcome in either of his restaurants. That might be a positive for some, but if you value your own safety, I’d steer clear of this guy’s establishments while they’re still around.

Went for brunch with my daughter. Never got to eat because we left two minutes after being seated. It was so loud we couldn’t even carry on a conversation. Too bad because it is literally 4 blocks from my house.

Lovely Mother’s Day brunch. Eggs Benedict, asparagus soup, home made donuts, mimosas. Nicely decorated and well staffed.

Heard that the brunch was incredible so was really looking forward to it! Bloody Mary’s were descent but not served with any sort of pickled vegetable As listed. The portions are absolutely unreasonable for the price you pay. Ordered the quiche… The crust was black char burnt. After scraping through the terrible crust, the quiche itself was okay. I couldn’t help but laugh at what they gave for a Demi salad. It was an arugula garnish. I really enjoyed the 4 pieces of diced potatoes I got for homefries(which honestly made me laugh). There was nothing wrong with the service at all… She was GREAT! My friends enjoyed their food but also agreed that the portion sizes are pathetic. With so many other wonderful options for brunch in Portland I highly doubt I will ever return here.

This was another place that I really wanted to like. And probably my expectations are what made me disappointed more than the actual experience. I came here for my birthday dinner with my parents. We all ordered a drink but they took forever to arrive. At least 15 minutes. And in the meantime the waitress had not come back to take our meal order. After that she was attentive but the first impression was not great. We ordered a charcuterie board as an appetizer and it was good. One of the better ones I’ve had. For my meal I ordered the salmon and it was incredible but a very small portion. This is definitely a place where you would want your own personal appetizer as well as the main course. Overall it was good, but nothing special. I have heard that brunch here is incredible so I will definitely try to come back soon for that. Pros: delicious food, atmosphere, décor Cons: slightly below average service, small portions, limited menu selection

Good little spot for brunch in the summer. We love to go and sit on the deck and eat. If you go make sure you take a trip to the bathroom, both men’s and women’s, it is quite unique

I am torn on Outliers. I wanted it to be so good. To start, the restaurant itself is lovely. It is intimate but not cramped. The ambiance was kind of perfect. They had an extensive drink list. I had Spirits in the Sky and was not disappointed. All of our appetizers were great. I got the duck for an entrée. It wasn’t the best duck I’d ever had,(that title belongs to Grace or David’s,) but it wasn’t the worst. I was generally please because I love duck. The end. The rest of my party was not happy with their entrees, which is why I had to give it 3 stars. To be fair, two of them had a several starters as their meal, so I can’t accurately comment on other entrees. My friends’s hangar steak was over-cooked and tough. BUT I am definitely willing to give it another try. Several other items like the lamb shank, the burger, and the rabbit looked pretty amazing and I would love to have my mind blown.

Portland deserves another restaurant like Outliers. In a town that’s become a «foodie» destination, this isn’t the type of restaurant that bops one over the head with lobster prepared five different ways. Instead, it’s more like Petite Jacqueline — a neighborhood place — with excellent service. It’s classy, but it’s warm — hard to achieve. You can take a date you want to impress or you can take your parents. A great wine and beer list and if cocktails are your thing, they have it all. Salads — first rate. From the simple greens, to the beets, etc., you won’t be disappointed. The scallops are perfectly cooked. The lamb shanks and the beef — excellent. My wife raved about her risotto vegetarian option. What’s not to like? It’s out of the way and, as some say, in a bit of a «wierd» location on York and Brackett in the west end. Find it. It’s one of Portland’s best, for those who really want great food.

I came to outliers with a girlfriend for the first time this past weekend. We came right at 10am when it opened and were able to choose from sitting inside or outside. We chose outside because it was beautiful out and wanted to see the view of Casco bay. Within a half hour of opening the place was packed. Unless you’re there when the door opens, definitely call to make a reservation. My friend and I were both very happy with our food. We each had to order the homemade donut holes(3 for $ 1). They were yummy and perfect for $ 1. Now, I’m a sucker for pancakes. We asked the waiter what the best things on the menu were, he said two items, one of which were the blueberry and lemon pancakes(I can’t remember the other). My decision was made from there and I was not disappointed. They were delicious! You get two medium sized pancakes and they had a lemon sugary crust on the top of them that was to die for. I was so full after eating them. Oh and we can’t forget the mimosas! My friend and I both went with the guava mimosa for $ 8 and it tasted great and was strong. We both felt a little buzzed afterwards. Overall a great experience. Great view, great service, and great food! I’ll be back!

The food was excellent. We enjoyed both The small plates and a larger one. The ambiance was elegant yet fun. The service was the standout. Really great experience!

I’ve been meaning to come here for months because I pass by it all the time so I brought my parents during their visit to Maine. They had lobster every day during their visit but the Outliers lobster was by FAR the best of the trip. It’s off the beaten path so it was easy to find parking, got a table quickly and the place was spacious instead of overcrowded like lots of places downtown in the summer. The food was delicious. I had scallops that were so flavorful! It looks like they have some mainstays on the menu and the accompaniments and cooking methods change according to the season. Definitely on par with any of the Portland restaurants getting all the attention. I can’t wait to come back! Oh and the bathrooms are really nice!

Our visit to Outliers was our first and won’t be our last. We started with their cheese plate and I had the potato and lily soup. Both were lovely. Our waitress, Kayla, went through and explained the cheese selection. The soup was divine; creamy and tasty. The temperature was disappointing, however. It could of been a little warmer. What was hot, right out of the oven was our fresh table rolls with chive(?) butter. Thanks again Kayla! For supper, we split the steak with baby broccoli and mashed potatoes! It was cooked perfectly! We weren’t starving at this point and were satisfied with the portion we each got by splitting it. Everything was great! The only thing I would of liked is to have perhaps been greeted a bit sooner upon arrival. It wasn’t busy, yet the host was no where to be found. She made up for it by promptly getting us water and greeting us with grace. We will be back for brunch and hopefully some COCONUT bread pudding and strawberry ice cream we had no room for that evening.

My girlfriend has been before and loved the eggs Benedict and has raved about them for months, so last Sunday… off to brunch. Nice clean modern look, good friendly service. Little pretentious and pricey. She had the lobster Benedict, I had the highly recommended duck confit hash. Very attractive presentation, very tasty dish. Could have had a couple of them. She liked the lobster Benedict, little light on the lobster but still very good. Will probably be back.

I love this brunch trend. You know what I mean: cool places with hip, new menus are totally in for the brunch crowd. Seems like that wasn’t the case a few years ago… but I’m sure glad it’s the case now. Outliers is a really fun, delicious place. We went there for brunch with a party of 11(Open Table FTW) a few weeks ago, and will happily return. The Good: — Super cool menu, with a variety of commonish dishes with unique flair. The brunch burrito was a big hit. — Awesome décor. It reminds me of someone’s home. Big windows, lots of wood flooring, but not huge. — Service: absolutely no complaints. — Dat hipster feel. Nothing traditional about the layout, they do a nice job of keeping it roomy and avoiding packing the guests in. The Okay: — Parking could be tricky here, I bet. We were lucky and found a spot directly across from the restaurant, but it appears to be street parking only. — The chairs were really unique and cool. They had mechanisms to raise and lower them, office chair/bar stool style. Except a few of them didn’t work. The Bad: — One bathroom. And I don’t mean one per gender, I mean one.

I used the Unilocal reservation feature to save a table for 6 for brunch last weekend. Turned out to be 10 of us– oops. I know what a pain it was for them to double our table size but they were so accomodating to us. Johnny is an excellent, very friendly server(not to mention handsome as the devil). All 10 of us agreed that this is definitely a do-again for brunching. Super affordable and half of the restaurant is covered in huge windows, so theres plenty of light to help your hangover :)

I had been meaning to try Outliers for awhile and hadn’t had the chance to stop in. I heard about some of the menu items and read some of the reviews here. My friend and I sat at the bar. I ordered a strawberry summer cocktail and my friend ordered a beer cocktail. We tried each others and decided that mine was better and definitely more of a summer drink. The beer cocktail was less of a cocktail and more like a beer. The staff was overly accommodating to our requests and questions. When we asked for something vegetarian(because there was nothing on the menu), he answered honestly and said that it was their biggest weakness. After our drinks were brought out, he mentioned that he spoke to the chef and that they would be able to put together a cheese board for us. It was the best cheese board I’ve ever had. Each and every cheese had the most amazing flavor and I even tried an edible flower for the first time. The crackers were also delicious and complimented the flavors of the cheeses very well. When I’m back in the state, I’ll definitely be back to try more of their menu items and hopefully some of their seasonal drinks.

Okay, Outliers, way to outshine everybody else around you with customer service that doesn’t just go above and beyond what’s called for… but SOARS above expectations. I came here with a friend on a balmy Monday night and we sat at the bar(the space is modern, clean, and comfortable). The bartender was attentive without being pushy or hovering. After looking through the menu we noticed there was nothing really vegetarian for us. So, we politely asked the bartender if there was maybe something we were missing outside of the one main course(after all, nearly every restaurant has SOME vegetarian options). «I admit completely that the weakest part of our restaurant is that we really don’t cater to vegetarians. We know this. And I’m so, so sorry.» I was shocked at his radically honest admission, but appreciated it(and knew it was coming). We settled on drinks: she got some cocktail with fresh strawberry purée and I settled on a beer cocktail with St-Germaine and grapefruit juice. Hers was the perfect summery drink, with the strawberry acting as more of an essence and less of a sugary sweetener. My cocktail was VERY beer-centric, and less cocktail-y. That being said — I would come back here any day of the week to try any of their other cocktails or beer cocktails which change incredibly often(I don’t find that frustrating here; I find that refreshing — it gives me a reason to come back again and again). After the bartender dropped off our drinks he said, «So I talked to the head of the kitchen and they said they have a ton of cheeses back there — they can make you a charcuterie board if you’re interested.» I was dumbfounded. «You don’t have to do that, y’know,» I said. He smiled patiently, «We know that, but… we CAN, so… are you interested?» OFCOURSE I WAS. And for $ 15 — and NOT being on their menu — it was the BEST charcuterie board I’ve had in Portland. Berries(blue, black, straw), yellow tomatoes, beet rounds, gherkins, pickled onion, shredded cucumber, and toasted baguette chips with an aged cheddar, a pungent blue, a black pepper coated cheese(I think it was goat), and a dulse infused cheese(I think it was feta). Divine. I could have easily eaten this as dinner — it was hard to share with someone(and also difficult not looking like a cow as I wanted to shovel it all in — so many textures, flavors, and combinations to enjoy!). Thank you, Outliers, for defining the word«accommodating»; I think you oughta offer that vegetarian charcuterie board(or at least make it a secret menu option for me!).

Wow. Just wow. I met an old friend for brunch on a warm Sunday morning and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. After a little hiccup with the hostess(she seemed a bit out of her element), we were seated on the front deck. Our server, Kayla, was terrific. We explained that we had many years of catching up to do and she never made us feel pressured to order or settle up — we were there for almost two hours! Other reviewers have mentioned the wonderful décor at Outliers — it’s open and airy, inviting and chic with a bit of rustic thrown in. I even liked the binders for the menus. My friend ordered a bloody mary and he commented that it was delicious and spicy. I had the sangria which was also delicious and a strong! Neither my friend or I are big brunch people so although we were tempted by almost all of the starters, we decided just to order entrees. I had an omelet with crabmeat, goat cheese and fresh purslane. My friend had the famous and apparently much beloved duck confit hash. Both dishes were excellent. Our server was very professional but also very fun — a great bonus! In addition to the wonderful meal, Outliers offers a great view and a quiet neighborhood feel. Parking is copious. Prices are reasonable. I will definitely be back — hopefully soon!

I live in the neighborhood and regularly find myself bringing my house guests here as it is so close by and the food is very good. The ambience inside is warm and inviting, yet lofty and airy. I’ve gotten to know a couple of the servers and they are consistently kind, professional, and knowledgeable. The food presentation is top notch on every dish I’ve had so far. Their drink selection is great for amusing cocktails and the wines have never disappointed. The menu is updated daily but there are some classics that seem to always remain– the burger, a fantastic lobster gnocchi dish, and others. The food has also consistently been good and I’ve never left hungry or disappointed. While Outliers may be off the beaten path, it’s worth venturing to the West End to try, and the harbor views from the deck are always beautiful. Four stars because it’s a bit overpriced for the neighborhood. If this restaurant was in the old port, I’d understand. I never get out of there spending less then $ 110 for two people. They’re using good products and aren’t open Sunday-Tuesday so higher prices make sense– I just think it might be too much for their location.

Brunch — eh, not bad but just on part with the rest Dinner — great! The dishes are well crafted, tasty… and a bit pricy. The dish comes out looking like a work of art and the way it plays on your tongue and senses is definitely an art form! A great place to go to splurge or for a special occasion! Drinks? The drink menu is FAR bigger than the food menu, that has some suggestion on the selection — and the quality is up there with it!
