I hadn’t picked up knitting needles in years. Cindy is amazing. Patient, funny, talented, she allayed my fears when I tentatively walked in the shop and asked if she could teach me.
Her locally hand-​dyed yarns offer spectacular colors at reasonable prices. I have had no need to wander any farther than her shop. My initial anxiety was lowered as I showed her my mistakes on the first effort, and she shook her head, smiled and reminded me that these weren’t flaws, they were «design features». If you are looking for beautiful yarn with a meditative approach, go to Pearl Fiber Arts; besides Cindy and her yarn, you will also meet some cool dedicated knitters and spinners who meet casually to sit and chat.
Pearl Fiber Arts and Cindy are treasures.

This was my first stop on a recent trip to Portland. The staff was really friendly and helpful. I was able to find the perfect yarn for a project that I want to make, which isn’t always easy to do!

Cutest little yarn shop! The salesperson was very friendly and helpful. They didn’t carry the largest variety of brands, but given how tiny the floor space it, they sure pack in what they can! The fibers are beautiful. Would definitely go again and spend a fortune!

I always stop in here when I am in town. They have a nice selection of local yarns and they are super friendly and helpful.

This was a fun tourist craft stop. (Not that its a tourist shop, but I like to sometimes get yarn souvenirs when I travel) i got some fun yarn and also she had a ton of accessories that I had looked at online. I am not a big fan of wool (I am new to crochet) so there was not a big selection of yarn that was cotton or acrylic. most of the wool was locally dyed. really nice selection if you like that. As with most other reviews the store owner was really helpful, she knew her yarns well and techniques to highlight them. For example, I bought a variable width yarn and she suggested hook size etc. They had beautiful hand carved yarn bowls too that I greatly coveted.
if you like to knit or crochet its only a few blocks from Powell’s so its worth the little walk. There were lots of restaurants around too for a nice lunch break.

I really love this shop and the owner, Cindy, is a tremendous help on any project. I highly recommend Pearl Fiber Arts to anyone interested in great yarn whether they knit or crochet.

This is an adorable little yarn store. The selection is limited, but it’s high quality with an emphasis on local products. The owner, Cindy, is great. She’s very personable and helpful.
I went in because I had a shawl that needed blocking and too many cats to do it at home. Cindy took it home and did a great job for only $ 15! I’m so grateful she offers this service.

I have just started spinning yarn with a drop spindle and came in to buy some fiber. The lady at the counter was very friendly and helpful; she even opened a box to show me fiber that hadn’t been set out yet. She answered all my questions and explained all the different fibers and spinning tools. Their selection of yarn and fiber is really good, they even have exotic fibers/​yarn like baby camel and yak. The yak is sooooo nice! I know it sounds weird but the yak fiber is lovely, once I touched it I couldn’t leave without some. The prices were pretty reasonable for the quality they are providing. I’ll definitely be going back.

I am doing RCYC and I have to say, after two days and ½ the shops visited this place is by far my favorite. The staff was so nice and so friendly. The colors in this shop are just amazing and for such a small space they have a wonderful selection.
I told myself I would buy yarn on this crawl only if I absolutely had to have it and low and behold I bought yarn here. It’s beautiful and I can’t wait to find the perfect project for it. My ride was running a bit late so they offered me a seat in their knitting circle and were so super friendly.
I will definitely be back.

Huge selection of yarn and notions in different textures and colors. Local and fair priced. Customer service was awesome.

The owner is wonderful. I walked in just before closing, and she helped me with the tools I needed to do a project I had purchased from another shop. She took her time ensuring I had what I needed. And, she was complimentary about the shop that had sold me the rest of the project!
I’ll be back.

Pearl Fiber Arts is a lovely store in the Pearl. I liked the selection of locally produced and dyed yarns. I only ended up buying 1 hank of Bumblebirch, but it was a tough decision.
The only drawback is that this is a small store so it felt crowded fast. Another shopper came in with 2 other family members, and it felt really busy all of a sudden. They were talking to each other and with the lady behind the counter… and I felt like, «Great, thanks for sharing the details of your life with me.»
Also, the lady at the counter may have been too nice and kind of permissive. When I was paying for my purchase, a strange man came into the store and insisted on shaking my hand. He wasn’t exactly homeless or crazy, but I didn’t want to shake his hand. The lady kept smiling and nodding, so I kind of acquiesced to be polite. But I wanted to get the f*ck out of there and I looked behind me to make sure he didn’t follow.
I’m not sure I would go back to the store. It may seem unfair, but I think the shopping experience was not relaxing.

This shop has some of the most beautiful and unique yarn that I’ve ever seen! The luxury alpaca yarn is definitely a must buy! Or any of Alexandra’s yarn. I came here on yarn crawl and even though the store was PACKED I still received help from every member of the staff that saw my vaguely dazed look. I even received help from the Alexandra herself!
I’ll definitely be back.

A lovely store in the Pearl District with a wonderful selection of locally dyed yarn and wool. The owner Cindy is extremely knowledgeable and super helpful to everyone. The atmosphere is pleasant and inviting and the selection is obviously chosen with care. Lots of gifts available for the knitter or crocheter in your life.
I love to stop in to see what is new. There are some comfortable seats if you want to sit and knit, spin or crochet a while, and the conversation is good too!

This place is my home away from home! The owner is a lovely lady who has lots of experience with knitting and crochet. I’m sure you will find something nice to knit with here, plus there is a wall of local yarns and a popular favorite, shepherds wool!

Smaller shop, great selection, they really make the most of their space. The same woman is there every time (I’m guessing she’s the owner), always friendly. Parking can be a pain, take the bus or the max.
I don’t come here often because it’s not near my regular work/​life route, but I always enjoy the shop. Definitely worth stopping in if you’re nearby. Also good if you’re a spinner. They’ve got more fiber than any other Portland yarn store I’ve seen.

This is my favourite Portland yarn store, and I’m so glad it’s here! I walk past it on my way to Powell’s and can rarely help going in. The owner is a really sweet, fun woman who always makes me feel welcome, even if I don’t end up buying anything. There are always lovely ladies knitting in the front who like to make conversation and generally add to the lovely and warm atmosphere of the shop.
The yarn selection is pretty nifty, and their roving selection is even better. No one looks at you strangely if you hug the batts of angora (in fact, I was encouraged to). They also have a lot of Cascade drop spindles (or can probably get you what you need as they sell out fast). I sometimes feel like Portland yarn stores have a general «well, you’re on your own, kid» attitude to spinning in general, but I’ve never felt that here.
They’re also open late (9pm) on Thursdays for Fiber Fanatic Fun, which is an all-​inclusive fiber art crafty night.
Oh, and they’re on the Supportland network, which I think is fantastic!
