Description

Specialties

We are a non-profit childcare center certified by the Oregon Child Care Division offering infant through preschool age childcare, before and after school care for children aged 6 – 12, and summer camps for children 6 – 12.

Our rates are based on a sliding scale according to parental income. We serve families of all socioeconomic backgrounds, and our staff work to find government subsidies for low-income families and even provide internal scholarships when all else fails.

To all families enrolled in one of our programs, we offer a variety of family services free of charge. These include parenting classes and family support programs.

Children enrolled in childcare receive 3 meals a day, cloth diaper service, medical screenings, and access to a nurse practitioner and family advocate. Children are encouraged and nurtured in a safe, fun and educational atmosphere. All teachers are highly qualified and classes are taught following a proven and successful curriculum.

History

Established in 1970.

In 1970, the St. Johns Day Care was established in a church basement after a year of planning and fundraising. Within a year, a sliding scale tuition structure was implemented, demonstrating the commitment to quality childcare that was affordable and accessible to all. In 1975, before and after school care was made available at Boise-Eliot and Peninsula Elementary Schools. Expansion continued in 1978 into a former convent in Kenton, where infant programs are added.

In 1990, Peninsula purchased and renovated an abandoned Elementary School, where we are still located today. Several renovations have taken place over the years, including state of the art play structures and outdoor areas.

Throughout the years, Peninsula has received many grants and much vital grassroots fundraising, which has been essential to our development and expansion. In addition, we have formed partnerships with organizations such as the Morrison Child and Family Services, to support our families.
