Best pet store in Portland. They have everything. The staff is well informed and friendly and they have an insane, in a good way, return policy. Every time we try another pet store we always say… why didn’t we go the Pets of Broadway. Note they are a bit pricier than buying stuff at petsmart or online but the location and help are worth it we think.

GREAT ADVICE and the nicest people ever!
I should have written this review a long time ago, as my great experiences with this business have been going on for years.
One of the things I love best about this business is that they have repeatedly given me great advice on choices for feeding our furry family members.
I had taken one of my cats to several vets because he so clearly was unwell. He was bony and just did not look healthy. No vet seemed to be able to figure out why he looked so bad. In the end, it was one of the employees I mentioned this to at Pets on Broadway who solved this problem. He suggested that I feed him wet food watered down into a soupy consistency because cats are often dehydrated. My kitty started to look healthy and amazing within a week and everyone who knows him has commented since (it’s been over a year now) how great he is looking and acting. I feel SO thankful!
This store tracks what you have bought and will take back any food that must be returned for any reason, for a full refund.
I love supporting this wonderful local business!

I’m new to the area and checked out this place to explore their fish and reptiles. I did not have huge expectations but this place really impressed me. I have been there three times and have always got excellent customer service. I purchased a small fish tank, fish, fish supplies and chameleon setup from this store. The prices are fair and I have been pleased with everything I have purchased thus far. Animals appear well cared for and they are patient with children. My son asked lots of questions about chameleons and staff was knowledgeable and helpful. This is my go to pet store now. I drive across the city to this place because it’s so pleasant to shop for things here. Also, free tiny cups of coffee!

Staff is very friendly and carries high quality dog food. I switched my pups to ACANA Pacifica because one of them is allergic to everything under the sun. After feeding them both this for a couple months, I can tell a difference in their energy level and they LOVE this food.

Pets on Broadway is one of the few places in the area to get quality pet mini pig food, I buy Dr. Coles brand and they even help you carry it out to your car.
They usually have adoptable animals there as well as live animals for sale. Next time I go in I would love to check out their live reptiles as I’ve only briefly checked out their live rodents while I was waiting to be helped.
Everyone is very helpful and happy to answer any questions you have.

This is my favorite place for fish in Portland. They have a great selection and an amazing staff– Paige is a superstar, and bent over backwards to help me out– she is awesome! Thank you Paige!

Keeping in line with my fellow « Unilocalers», I have been impressed with Pets on Broadway and their savvy motivated crack squad of personnel. The greeting I got was a little less than warm but the guy seemed busy so I shrugged it off. He helped me get the noms for my beardie and I went to pay. In and out. 3 minutes tops. I went to pay and the girl at the cash register was also really helpful and I saved $ 5 as a first time customer signing up for their newsletter. I had questions about beardies and she answered what she could and then pointed me to someone one who could help with the rest of my questions. As Lulu, is my first beardie, I had some concerns and they were quickly eased by the knowledge and help I received at POB. You can go into any major pet store and walk out a satisfied customer. POB ensures that their customers walk out loyal. I’ll definitely be returning.

I came to Broadway Street for a spray tan and I was very early and spotted Pets on Broadway just down the street; I decided to pop in, my dog needed some new training treats anyway. If I lived in the neighborhood I would definitely be a regular at this store. Everything is organized well and they have an excellent selection of dog food, treats, toys, as well as what looks like a great section for birds and reptiles. They sell some small animals including guinea pigs and rabbits; they have shelter cats available for adoption as well. The smaller animals looked well cared for and the bird cages were large compared to what you’ll find in a Petsmart or Petco. The employees are great at helping you find what you’re looking for, and they’re very friendly as well! Their prices are affordable and this seems to be a convenient location for the locals. One of my favorite pet shops I’ve been in!

Great selection — an extensive array of supplies for just about any kind of pet — birds, cats, dogs, fish, and particularly useful to me, they’ve got several aisles of reptile supplies, with helpful booklets, tank accessories, and live feed (various worms, crickets and roaches!)
Friendly, helpful staff, a loyalty program, and convenient location.

A pet store as good as it gets. Although I have only purchased fish and aquarium supplies and not from their wider collection of pet goods, I can honestly say that this store is not only charming to be in and look around, but the staff and the owner are equally as pleasant!
I purchased a large tank from this store on custom order and they were helpful from the first call, they even helped me bring it to my car for loading. As for their collection of fish, it is very decently stocked, though not as varied as another fish store in the area. HOWEVER, their customer service has exceedingly went above and beyond my needs, going to so far as to keep fish in quarantine longer than normal to make sure they are in pristine health. I praise them not only for their dedication to their customers, but also their dedication to ensuring only the healthiest of fish will be sold. They have won my business and this is the only aquarium store in the area that I will go to.

Although Mud Bay is giving Pets on Broadway a run for their money and dividing their loyal customers, I recently returned to POB for the first time in months with a coupon they sent in the mail. The staff is always super knowledgeable and friendly and one of the staff members helped me select cat litter and food that is well within my price point and is still high quality. They do 10% off 12 cans of food or more (mix and match) and have occasional samples. Nice large selection of items and great return policy. This trip reminded me of why this used to be my go to pet store for the kitty in my life.

Hi my friend and I journeyed into this location on the eve of my anniversary, hoping to get a loved one some fish they had really been wanting. I asked a man to help me choose fish and at first he was nice, but then he burst into an attitude of anger and proceeded to take a very, very long time to get me my fish. I asked for certain fish and he said that was a bad decision and then he even commented that my friend and I should stop laughing. I don’t know what the manager tells his employees to do, but if it is to take a really long time and not do business, he’s doing a great job. Also the prices are higher than my local fish store, so I do not plan on returning (As well, when I walked by the birds I got hit in the eye with a flying pellet).

HEDGEHOG OWNERS:
I am a proud parent of a hedgehog, and POB has seemed to help with my last minute «Cocoa needs food!» Things that sometimes come around. They have a huge selection of actual/​natural pet foods that aren’t the generic meow mix and gravy train you would find at a chain store. I like that.
More hedgehog stuff. They know how to trim hedgie nails! A little long for my liking but they get it done (I don’t want to have to come in as often.) They carry hedgehogs sometimes (cocoa was from a breeder in Seattle) but their hedgehogs are kinda grumpy which is why I didn’t give a full 5 stars even though I am 100% sure they are healthy and being cared for well.
The business is run professionally and I have never felt nervous or uncomfortable to ask for help or ask questions. Awesome staff, I usually see the same girls

I give them «5 Stars» as I cannot imagine a pet store being any better.
Huge selection of food and treats for dogs. They have probably the best toy selection I’ve ever seen, and the staff is super nice. The place is kept clean. They are very welcoming to your dog if you choose to bring «Fido» in here.
We get our pup a fairly expensive, quality dog food. It is very nice that they keep your record of purchases on file. You buy a certain amount (I think 10?) And you get a free bag.
My review is very «dog biased», yes. That’s because that’s what we have. But Pets on Broadway looks to have an equally large selection for other pets, too.
Like I said, I can’t imagine a pet store being any better.

Love this place! We have one of those dogs that tends to eat better than us. He is grain free and has other tid bit allergies we have to keep an eye on. OPTIONS is what you will find here. You are able to sign up for their little rewards program and get cash towards future purchases that is always nice. You dont have to keep your receipts as everything is in their system and they TAKE anything back if it doesnt work, no questions asked. That helps if you have a «special» furry friend that may be picky with certain purchases.
They cater to all animals as well and they also have aquatic friends for those that choose to have water babies rather than fur babies. They also do adoptions and have cats to choose from right there if you want to adopt.
Support small and local and check this place out, we love it and will continue to shop here!

Went here looking for a turtle. No one spoke to us or asked if we needed help, extremely rude. We left and they didn’t even say goodbye. I think they have good stuff but with service like that I’d rather spend my money elsewhere

Great pet store in a convenient location on Broadway (near Fred Meyer).
We started shopping here about a year ago to upgrade our dog’s food to a better quality brand. They have a great selection of dog food, toys, beds, treats, etc. And I really like the «buy 12 bags of dog food, get one free» offer that they have. That’s one of the main reasons we keep coming back.
Everyone that we’ve encountered who works there is very pleasant, and goes out of their way to help you find what you need.
I really like supporting local businesses, so if you are looking for a pet store, and don’t want to go to a national brand chain, give this place a try. *They also have limited parking, but we’ve always lucked out and been able to park right in front.

This pet store plenty of options for your pets’ needs. Went into this store because it is open later than another pet store near the area. I am so glad I went in.
So my furry friend has good allergies so finding grain free options is a big deal. This store had so many options. Some of the brands I hadn’t heard of and some were ones I had seen but never found. I was able to get a grain free brand and they had so many different flavors that he’ll have a different meal each night. Then to top it off there were plenty of grain free treat options. From the bulk bones and treats to different brands. They also have much more to offer than food.
There are plenty of supplies here as well. I was able to pick up a new holder for poop bags and some poop bags. Plenty of collars, leads, training supplies, food and water bowls.
They also have birds and reptiles and I believe hamsters. Last time they had some cats for adoption from a local shelter. A great place to stop in and see of it meets your needs because it worked perfectly for mine.

I love this pet supply store!
When I first moved to Portland in July, I needed food for my dog immediately. Problem is, Louie is a spoiled fella, and gets only the best of the smelly, commercially packed noms. I had to call around a few places and Pets on Broadway had both his canned food (relatively easy to find) and his dry food (nearly impossible to find) — and a nice folding gate/​cage/​enclosure thing that I use every single day.
They also stock a dizzying array of poop bags (get the biodegradable ones), as well as other stuff you might not initially realize you need (if you’re moving to a new city with an anxious dog, might I suggest getting the bio-​enzyme stain remover spray?).
The staff is always super friendly and helpful, they’ll put stuff on hold for you, they have a rewards program and an email list, they are open very reasonable hours, and they keep their shop clean!
The only thing I wasn’t able to find there was a specific pet bed and good harness for my dog. That’s not their fault, though, my dog is just difficult like that.
Kudos for stocking Orijen dry food, as well as a whole host of other «better-​for-​your-​dog» commercial foods.
The only downside is that they charge more for the canned food (Wellness 95% Chicken) than I’ve seen at other stores. However, it’s still a 5-​star place for me. I was very lucky to find it as soon as I moved.
