Port Bean

Based on reviews I came specifically for the coffee (ordered a latte), greatly disappointed. There are plenty of places that are better for coffee in Portland, despite what has been said by others.
I can’t comment on food or other offerings however.

Nice atmosphere. The windows let so much light in and I love the paintings on the wall. My Irish cream latte was really good. Good selection for sandwiches and paninis. I’d appreciate a couple more options for coffee drinks though.

I don’t leave many reviews but I am a big fan of giving credit where it’s deserved. My boyfriend and I eat here fairly often, and we have NEVER had a bad meal or service.
Every person that I’ve met who works there is always super friendly and personable. Add that to the tasty meals — I’ve tried a quite a few — and I have zero complaints.
We work nearby and actually have a few closer options for breaks/​lunch but most of the time we still choose Port Bean. Keep up the good work!

The coffee is good at Port Bean and the people are friendly. That’s what counts. Sure, there’s a grunge quality to the place, especially the falling apart floor, but behind the counters looked clean. I had no intention of eating off the floor so I didn’t care. I was tempted to get some food but I didn’t because I knew I was going to have a big lunch. This is not a scary place at all and the coffee is as good as anywhere else.

Stopped in here while walking walking around old port. Very, very dirty here. Trash on the floor, full trash bins. I was going to buy a cookie, but there were flies on the cookies… gross. Coffee was okay, nothing great. I’d skip it next time and try another coffee shop.

Great spot in Portland. Very nice location. Comfortable. Cozy window seating. Coffee was very good and locally sourced. Food is excellent as well. Best damn breakfast sandwich in Portland

Love the coffee, but I HATE the fact that they have ZERO items that are dairy free! I just can’t eat there and my wife cant either! It’s too bad as it’s really a nice location.

Recently while in Portland, was looking for a little coffee house where I could grab a lite bite and some good coffee. Stumbled into Port Bean. I wish I hadn’t! They were out of breakfast sandwiches so I ordered a toasted bagel with cream cheese and a cup of coffee. While waiting for the bagel discovered they were out of coffee, their grinder broke and they had no eta on a fix yet they continued to sell more and more and more cups of coffee they didn’t have. Got the bagel and it was not toasted then finally the coffee came and it was watered down and tasted horrible. Maybe they were just having an off day, but my guess is its like this all the time.

Somebody clean the bathroom.

Went here 3 days in a row and what I got was consistency. It’s rare to find a place that can produce the same quality 3 days in a row, plus with good service — no wonder we went back all 3 days we spent in Portland.
The great: breakfast sandwiches! I had sausage & egg on an english muffin, ham & egg on an english muffin and sausage & egg on a sesame bagel. All were delicious & freshly made.
The good: coffee; I tried their breakfast blend and another one that I can’t think of. The breakfast blend was really good, but the other one (jazz something, maybe?) was ok. These are stronger brewed coffees, so if you like the watered down taste of Dunkin’ Donuts, these may not be for you.
The ok: seating. Seating was really weird in here; it’s a pretty big space, but only a few tables. It seems to be a hot-​spot for business meetings so the bigger tables are usually filled up. This only leaves a few tables left so sometimes finding a seat could be tricky.
They also serve lunch which sounded great, but we didn’t try.
I’d definitely recommend though, and I’ll go back next time I’m there for sure.

I enjoy the atemosphere here. I come here most days get a coffee or tea to kill some time before work. I always get greated with a smile that really brightens my day. The sandwiches are really good too. :)

Dirty and the worst coffee ever!

First thing to note is that the address on Unilocal is not correct. Its on the same street, but at a different address.
I am giving them two stars for service, and five stars for the food. We walked in a little before 4:30 and the place was pretty empty. There were two girls working behind the counter. My girlfriend and I ordered two coffees and a whoopy pie.
We walked over to get our coffee, but all that was there was some decaf and a dark roast that tasted awful. So, we asked the girl behind the counter if they we going to put out more coffee. She said they had one more pot brewing, but that was going to be it for the day, since they were closing at 5. This is a little fact that they failed to mention when we were ordering. Good thing there was enough of that last pot to go around, otherwise we would have been screwed.
We actually saw someone come in and order a coffee, realize there was nothing left, and asked for his money back. I don’t care that the two girls wanted to leave right at five to go hang out with their friend, but I am a customer and if I walk in at 4:55, order a coffee, you damn well better brew some coffee for me. We were there well before 5 o’clock, and had a hard time getting coffee. I hope the owner read this, and makes some changes. The place it in a great location and could do really well.
The coffee that we did get was great! Really great! And the whoopy pie was a first for both of us and we couldn’t stop eating it. It was huge, so we only made it through half of it, but it was damn good!

Went in got a coffee came out and walked around Maine. Enough said.

The food was good and it was the only thing open on a Sunday, so I didn’t have very many options, but the atmosphere here kind of ruined it for me. The prices are kind of high for a sandwich and a bag of chips, it tasted good and the coffee was good, but the inside is kind of dirty.
Maybe clean the carpet, put some more tables, and paint and this place would be great.

This place is full of awesome and fuck yeah! You need your coffee? Bam! Bitches got your coffee! You won’t even know what kind of sweet ass caffeine hits your tastebuds until you try Port Bean. Nigga, get you some of this delicious dark nectar befo you start hittin’ on your co-​worker. You know the one i’m talkin’ about. That hot bitch, Cindy! Yeeeaaahh, she is a hot piece of ass, idn’t she? Roll one up, homie.
oh yeah, them got good sammiches, too.

My review is based solely on the BLT; good lord it’s delicious.
Honestly? One of the best I’ve had. The bread is fresh, thick, and toasted perfectly. The bacon is perfectly chewy, the way bacon should be prepared. The tomato, lettuce, and mayo are in even and sublime distribution.
This is a BLT that is definitely worth $ 9 dollars.
Go get one.

I was wandering around the old port part of Portland on a Sunday morning and decided I could use an espresso. Lo! Right across the street I spotted Port Bean (an Old Port Café). How convenient! The atmosphere is bright and open. Not a dark, woodsy style like many coffee places. I ordered a double espresso and a chocolate chip cookie. The espresso, while absolutely delicious, was served in a paper cup. If it had come out in a ceramic espresso cup I’d probably rated this place with 5 stars The food looked good, too. Definitely worth checking out if you’re an afficionado of indie coffee houses.
