Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra is a nonprofit organization dedicated to presenting quality performances of standard, worthy but rarely performed, and new orchestral repertoire. The orchestra features regional composers, soloists, and musicians both professional and semi-​professional. Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra brings together musicians and audiences in friendly, affordable, and accessible concert experiences.

History

Established in 1982.

Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra was founded by Jerry Luedders at Lewis and Clark College. PSU Professor John Trudeau then led the orchestra for fourteen years. Huw Edwards served as Music Director and Conductor for twelve seasons (2000 – 2012). Having flourished and matured artistically over the past 31 seasons, it is now composed of many of the finest musicians in the metropolitan Portland community.

This review is about the «Inside the Score» concert series.
This series is a wonderful blend of great music and education. I had the pleasure of seeing Beethoven’s 7th with conductor Gregory Vajda. The great thing is that Gregory gave us incites into the piece itself, Beethoven, and the musical style and connections. For someone who is usually out of his element at the symphony, it was awesome to learn about the piece and then hear it.
The series starts again with Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 4 with conductor Carlos Kalmar Sept, 28th. Tickets are as little as $ 10 for students and $ 15 for the general public. I suggest you get your ass to the symphony!
