Portland Dermatology Clinic

I came here to see Dr. Adler and to get my first full skin examination to check my moles. The entire process was so fast but still thorough! I recommend getting an appointment first thing in the morning — I showed up about 20 minutes before my appointment time and they got me in right away! They even thanked me for getting their day off to an «on-​time» start.
Dr. Adler is incredibly knowledgeable with great bedside manner. I highly recommend the office and staff.
P. S. The free parking garage makes parking super convenient!

First visit with Dr Adler. He’s technically very sharp. Asked me to remove watch to do skin check, that’s detail oriented. Knowledgeable about my other medical conditions. Checked lymph nodes, which no previous derm dr had. Diagnosed cause of brachial puritis when I’ve had about 6 doctors over past 20 years in 2 states misdiagnose the cause. He didn’t ask if I had questions, and I forgot about the 2 I so badly wanted to ask. While the visit felt a bit hurried and short, given what my insurance pays him I feel I got an appropriate amount of time. I’ll continue to see him.

After looking in my area for a dermatologist I decided to make an appointment here. It’s close to my place and they could get me in faster than OHSU. So despite the bad reviews I went.
And after my appointment I can’t believe all the bad reviews on here! After making my appointment I was sent paperwork I could fill out online in advance, which I did. When I arrived I was checked-​in by a very nice woman who thanked me for filling out the paper work online. She got me checked in and I sat down. Note: I arrived to this appointment about 15 minutes early. I was expecting to be waiting a while!
I was called back within 4 minutes of sitting down. The nurse was very friendly and easy to talk to. When the time came I was visited by Dr. Hopkins. He was a VERY nice man. He listened attentively and agreed with me on the method I wanted to take for my skin.
I went over paperwork with another nice nurse, then did a couple labs with yet another nice nurse. At the very end I made my next appointment with a very friendly woman who made nice conversation with me.
The next day I received an awesome voicemail that my labs had gone through and we could move forward with the treatment.
Overall I was in and out in about 30 – 40 minutes. I got the EXACT response and result I was hoping so much for. Everyone was so nice and the place is beautiful.
I really look forward to visiting this clinic through my treatment!

I have been using Portland Dermotology for years along with my family. From the greeting of all of the receptionists to the expert care of Dr. Adler and his PA’s provide, this place is first cabin! I have always had the best service and care I feel very confident about.
Hallie in the Laser/​skin treatment dept. was very thorough and professional. She was very patient and explained all of the options for treating my condition. You can feel confident using Portland Dermotology on 14^th and Northrup in NW Portland, OR. You will have a great experience.

Love Dr. Chang! She treated my acne and my skin is the best it has ever been! She is easy to talk to and really makes you feel comfortable. Layla in the lab is amazing too. I am extremely needle phobic, and she made sure to take her time and put me at ease each time I saw her.

This place is ok as long as you don’t need a mole removed. They’ll rip you off with those.

I’ve been to both Dr. Adler and Dr. Lee at Portland Dermatology. I had a few moles I wanted removed and Dr. Lee removed two of the three. The third one he advised would be too hard to get without causing obvious scarring. I appreciate that he’s direct and not afraid to disappoint you upfront, rather than say okay, and have you hate it later.
Dr. Adler has done a few annual skin checks and has also been to the point, thorough and courteous. He asks the right questions and I never feel uncomfortable while he’s examining. He found a melonoma on my stomach and was very quick to get it removed and deliver the news in a gentle way.
As for the clinic, I love the text message reminders for scheduling an appointment. Honestly, if I didn’t get the reminder to schedule my annual check, this melanoma may not have been caught in time. The location is clean and prompt. I’ve never waited more than 10 minutes to get back for my appointment.

The doctor (Alexander) did not wash his hands before or after exam. I came in for a skin check and removal of benign growths. After disrobing and given an exam gown I was directed to sit in a vinyl exam chair WITTH NO PROTECTIVE PAPER on it.
The doctor did not read the questionnaire I was given to fill out. He was completely non-​communicative and when asked, he declined to read the history I filled out. One-​word guy. No band aids were given to cover the sites even though I asked and was concerned because clothes rubbed the wounds.
His «assistant» echoed his behavior. How can a medical practice that deals with potentially communicative conditions have NO health and safety standards?
Caveat emptor.

I have limited experience with clinics of this sort but can share my experience and impressions based on the visit I made in early May of 2015. I had a 2:15 appointment and arrived just a few minutes early, early enough I thought, to complete the paperwork. I had to run back to the car to retrieve my ID, no big deal. I filled out the paperwork and waited… It was literally 30 minutes before I was ushered into a smaller room and told to wait for the doctor. In the process, I overheard a nurse telling someone else that I was «the 2:30 that was still waiting…» This wasn’t comforting.
Still, despite all of this, I did receive what I think was above-​board treatment and I’m satisfied with the results. Everyone at the office was professional and polite, and the doctor seemed to show both care and concern. I received a biopsy, which was painless and without incident.
I can sympathize with those that may say that their concerns weren’t taken seriously or were easily excused or explained away. I got a glimpse of this. Overall, however, my questions and concerns were addressed as I’d hoped, and I would return to this office again in the future.

I have been going here for 7 years, ever since Dr. Bremner caught my melanoma and saved my life. She is super nice, and easy to talk to. I can’t say enough nice things about the staff. They are all great!
Also, being in the Pearl it’s nice to have a parking garage.

I have been a patient of Dr. Barbara Resnick for many years, and she has now seen three generations of my family for issues, ranging in age from 5 – 77! I have always had an exceptional experience at Portland Dermatology, from the front office check-​in to billing to Dr. Resnick and the other doctors I have seen. Dr. Resnick takes time and is very patient in explaining issues and suggesting solutions. And — she found the tiniest of melanomas during a regular skin check a couple of years ago that I would not have found myself for some time to come. I highly recommend Dr. Resnick and the clinic to my friends — I find it a very caring place with Dr. Resnick and her staff being fantastic and patient.

I was a customer there in the 90s and earlier 2000s. I think the doctor I had is not there any longer, but I will share my experience anyway because lord knows I paid them enough money and so did my insurance company at that time.
Pros: They *finally* treated my acne problem… but they tried a few other drugs and various dry ice treatments (which were painful and utterly useless) and UV light treatments (also useless) before finally putting me on Accutane. Read between the lines… I read ‘bill the insurance company for as much as we can.’ But, the problem was finally resolved.
Cons: Doctor spent very little time with me at each appointment.
He simply did cursory «inspections» and left the exam room after like 45 seconds, and the nurse came back in with the prescriptions and sent me on my way. The nurse was a total cold fish too. Also, my dandruff problem was not solved by them. Numerous wasted appointments here for my horrid dandruff problem. The doctor at this clinic prescribed Nizoral Shampoo (useless) and put me on some meds that never worked. My dandruff, which had lasted 20+ years, was completely cured within one week by another doctor, a retired dermatologist from the Philippines. Because I believe in knowledge sharing free of charge, I am going to tell you how to get rid of your dandruff…
I hope everyone reads this. If this does not work for you, I don’t know what will, and trust me, the dermatologist will never ever tell you about this. Get Sulfur8 Medicated Regular Formula Anti-​Dandruff Hair and Scalp Conditioner 2 oz. It’s only about $ 5.00. Google it and order online if your local pharmacy doesn’t have it. Buy it and use it. It will stop the dandruff. Also use VO5 hot oil for 3 – 4 days (another $ 5 for the small tubes of oil, heat in microwave, apply). Then use Selsun Blue shampoo and use the Sulfur8 as needed. There’s also a good shampoo called Cicloprox but it’s about $ 150 per bottle and once you quit using it, your dandruff will be back. Do not waste time at a doctor’s office with your dandruff problems. Most of what they will prescribe are temporary fixes and not cures. There are some skin problems that generate a lot of revenue for dermatologists and this is one of them; they will try a bunch of stuff and get as much money as they can from you, knowing that the problem will likely never be fixed. I’m saying this because I suffered from dandruff for so long. It was downright embarrassing, and costly — and not only in terms of dollars and cents.
Try the remedy I mention above. Most American/​European dermatologists do not even know about how effective old-​fashioned sulfur — a natural element (from the Periodic Table!) that has been around since the dawn of our universe — can be. Ever see Asians or Indians with dandruff? Me neither. It’s because they use sulfur and hot oil, I suspect.
ADDENDUM: I received an email from a «Patient Advocate» rep from this office and she mentioned that the doctor I had then has indeed retired, that they have moved to a new office location, and are trying to serve patients as well as they can. I really appreciated the response.

Great clinic and great skin doctors however not a fan of location! Too far down in Portland for people who live in the suburbs and further!
I liked the old location a bit better. Parking is not the best!

This review is for Dr Lee only. Professional, courteous staff. Dr. Lee is a master at what he does. I came to see Dr Lee for a MOHs procedure, and was thoroughly pleased with the result. Highly recommend.

Dr Hopkins chopped off a growth on my back. He has a great sense of humor and makes your feel right at ease. I went in to have my moles checked and he answered all of my questions and addressed what I wanted addressed. From check in to check out this seemed like a very well oiled machine. No complaints here. Really nice people.

New to Portland I wasn’t sure what dermatology clinic to trust. I can’t say enough good things about my experience with the Portland Dermatology Clinic. The staff was friendly, and my appointments were easy to schedule. I had a skin tag that I wanted removed but I was very hesitant to trust someone who could potentially damage my skin. Dr. Bremner was not only easy to talk to, but she made the removal practically painless. My scar is much smaller than I anticipated and I am so relieved that I finally had this taken care of! I will definitely be using Dr. Bremner for any future dermatology issues.

This place is pointless. I saw Dr. Alexander, he didnt write much during my appt, and I felt like he wasnt really paying attention to my reason for coming. Needless to say I didn’t get help with what I came here for. Tried to schedule an appt with another dr, and the receptionist was all pushy about their policies before I could make another appt. Very rund and ineffective at dermatology.

Do NOT waste your time here. I made an appointment for a particular condition (not regarding weird moles or spots) in which the Dr. quickly dismissed as «nothing he could do, it is just one of those things you got to live with». Without any recommendations or words of advice, he was indeed more interested in me disrobing and looking me over for any odd moles or spots. What a disgrace, you call yourself professionals…

I’m updating my review. Although I don’t see Dr. Alexander for my psoriasis anymore, I do see him for some little things (the clinic is one block away from where I live). He’s been really good at treating these concerns and I’m happy with the results.

My appointment was amazing.
At 8 months pregnant, I was very concerned about an odd spot on my back. After it changed rapidly, my husband convinced me to go see a dermatologist. I was so impressed that when I called the Portland Dermatology Clinic, they were able to get my in THAT morning for my initial visit. I saw Dr. Hopkins, and he was wonderful.
When I first walked into the office, I was impressed again. Amazing space, friendly staff, and nice waiting area. I barely waited 3 minutes. So quick!
My nurse (Samantha) was just great. We laughed about the end of pregnancy, and the fun journey it’s been … She made me very comfortable during what could have been a little scary. I’ve never been to a dermatologist before, and seeing as though I had this scary spot on my shoulder, I was a little nervous.
Dr. Hopkins was so inviting, and made me feel very relieved. The procedure to remove the spot went very quickly, and absolutely painlessly. He worked around my limitations (like laying on my stomach), to ensure I was 100% comfortable.
Overall, it was great. I would recommend Dr. Hopkins to anyone looking for a dermatologist!
