Portland Pampered Pets

Usually Korri grooms my Standard Poodles, but yesterday I received a text that something had come up and she was not available. I called the shop and Wendy volunteered to take over and «fit in» my 3 Standard Poodles. Trust me, this is hours of work. I dropped them off at 9:30 and a bit after 4PM, they were done, beautifully done. Wow, what a great resource with such helpful and talented groomers.

Best groomer I’ve been to. Everyone is super nice and they always give my dog a great wash and cut.

Love the staff, truly have a heart for your pet. Was my first time there and they came very highly recommend. Maybe my fault for not fully explaining what I wanted. I wanted my dog to still look like his breed, his hair is short but he does not look like a Shih Tzu. They did explain to me how I to combing my boy.
So great with my very stressed out 12 year old Westies on her birthday. The place is not much to look at, but that is not what I look for. I want a person that would care for my kids the way I would. So yes we will go back to these ladies.

My pooch always comes out of PPP looking great! The staff is always nice and able to help me last minute, even on the weekend. A friend referred me and I will do the same for sure!

Absolutely appalling. I brought my 20 lb dog here for a walk-​in nail trim. I explained that my dog gets nervous about nail clipping, which is why I brought her in — expecting that, as a company that offers grooming services, they would place my dog on a grooming table. I was told that they would do it in the front of the establishment, evidently expected to hold my dog while an employee used the same exact pair of nail trimmers I have at home. I explained the situation, and she reluctantly agreed to bring my dog to a table. I initially heard the employee praising my dog, and not a peep coming from her. Then I heard my dog Unilocal loudly in pain, not an aggressive noise but one of fear and great discomfort.
The employee immediately proceeded to tell her colleague that «this is not worth $ 5» and then bring me my dog, saying that my dog had jerked and caused the employee to over trim a nail. When a dog jerks during a nail trimming, they pull AWAY from the clippers, they do not push their paw TOWARDS the clippers. My dog jerked and Unilocaled in reaction to her nail being cut past the quick.
The employee then told me I should try a groomers where they can muzzle my dog. I can admit to my dog not being perfectly leash trained, and she jumps up on people she hasn’t seen in a while, but my dog is NOT aggressive. Even if this had been an instance where my dog was at fault, the way in which the situation was handled and the way in which I was spoken to showed not only a complete lack of professionalism but a blatant disregard for the care of my dog.
I went back into Portland Pampered Pets after realizing my dog was still bleeding to request a paper towel or something to slow the bleeding. They said they didn’t have any, and when I requested any assistance they could provide, they asked if I could just «hold her» while I drove home, as if that would aid in the slowing or prevent the blood from getting everywhere. After continuing to ask, they let me apply some Kwik Powder (stops the bleeding) to my dog’s nail.
It is appalling that, given the state of the establishment itself, they would also lack in skills and professionalism. Please, please, please do not go here. I wouldn’t want anyone else’s dog to be traumatized.

Took my English Bulldog here and the ladies did a fantastic job. Their pricing is in my budget and my dog was very clean and not shedding hair for a week after! They really have good animal care and and dedication to do a good job. I was impressed that they noticed my dog was itchy and treated it too. We will be returning to this place!

I took my little one here yesterday. She’s a Pomeranian so it’s not easy to groom her, she has ALOT of hair. We went in because the weather has been toasty here and she was panting and getting dingle berries stuck to her bootay. I called last minute and they were able to fit her in. She’s not easy to handle either and gets anxiety around other dogs and when I leave her. They took amazing care of her! I came back a few minutes early and she seemed very calm. Once I saw her I was so impressed! She even walked with pride! They did an amazing job, the day I needed help, at a great price. Thank you ladies.
PS I walked buttercup home and a man outside a few blocks up noticed how happily she was walking and mentioned she was beautiful and excited, I thanked him — she was very pleased with the job!

Super nice people who do great work at fair prices and are kind to the dogs. They will go out of their way to accommodate a dog with short notice and they always remember to keep our poodle’s hair short in certain mud prone spots. The poodle seems happ y, too – unlike at another place where he would literally dig in his heels and refuse to enter. He seems to like his groomer and the box of treats on the counter. We’ve gone here for years and will keep on pampering our poodle at this good place

I’m a cat owner. My 16 year old male cat has definitely seen better days. He was always a «Pigpen» even when he was a kitten. But the mats got out of control and as thin as he is I really couldn’t bear to see him shaved. He’s been ill lately and my God did he need a bath. Enter Debbie. She sounded nice on the phone so I took Yin to his first ever professional grooming. I was more nervous than the cat. After seeing nightmarish reviews of cat groomers everywhere, (Photos of terrified half bald cats! Eeek!) I was more nervous than he was. I dropped him off and came back in five minutes later because I thought I forgot something. Yin was already on a table, in a glamorous odalisque pose looking very relaxed. I came back four hours later to find a calm, handsome boy who smelled wonderfully clean. Debbie didn’t charge me the full amount because she didn’t get to his back legs but honestly he looked 300% better. She said he got feisty in the end which I wished I could have seen as he hasn’t been feisty in years. (Sorry Debbie!) It’s about five days later and I am thrilled. The results are still there. He’s wonderful to pet again and I can’t keep my hands off of him. I will venture to stay on top of his grooming until it gets beyond my control and then I will bring him back to Debbie.

They did a wonderful job on my dog today, not a stray hair out of place, Love it.

It only cost $ 5 to get my Parson Russell Terrier’s nails clipped — and even better, it took two minutes! Very pleased!

Worst grooming ever. My dogs face is butchered. The cut is not even on both sides of his face. He is 10 years old and I have had him groomed every three months since he was a puppy. I have never had an issue at other places. Just moved to the neighborhood and I will never be back to this place.

Nope, not going back here. We have taken our dogs here in the past and have had OK service but this time was different. They butchered our one dogs coat and he looks ridiculous. They said they were going to trim the wispy hair and blend it all together but they just cut most of it off instead. As for the other, they made him look like a barrel with legs. So not happy about this, especially for how much they charge, which seems to vary each visit.

Portland Pampered Pets is a great neighborhood business!
We have a 13 lb. terrier chihuahua mix, Daisy. She goes to see the ladies at PPP monthly for a bath, trim and nail clipping. During the summer months she gets her hair cut short too. They do a great job with all the trimming and bathing and also really make her feel comfortable. We have been to other places, but usually Daisy comes home seeming a bit traumatized. After her visit to PPP, she just trots out happy as a clam.
Also, they know we live close by and are so accommodating with timing– they just give us a call when she’s done. We drop her first thing when they open in the morning, usually, and she’s out really rather quickly.
They also keep a mellow vibe going, even if there are a few dogs there. Their personalities are really low key, and kind, dealing with the doggies. That is important to us. It seems to keep the dogs pretty relaxed. Even our «not so social» dog just pretty much relaxes– when I get there, she’s lying down in the kennel after she’s done drying.
Also, it is inexpensive! I have been to a couple other places in town, that are double the price. Honestly, after groomings at both of those places my dog seemed overwhelmed, exhausted and freaked out when I got there to pick her up and the behavior continued when she got home. She just hid under the bed. I would have been willing to pay the extra if she seemed to have a better experience, but in fact it was quite the opposite!
Regarding the shop, it is simple and functional. It’s not the W hotel. But they wash dogs, so guess what? It’s going to smell like wet dog.
We love Portland Pampered Pets and are so glad to be able to patronize a great local business.

I had my shih-​tzu cut here three times before I couldn’t take it anymore. I understand that nicks happen, sometimes it takes much longer than you expected and cutting nails are hard. But what I can’t understand is blatant disregard for thoroughness. The final time he did not have the fur trimmed between his paws, his body was patchy and he had nails that had not been clipped at all. They do have some of the lowest prices in town, but unfortunately you get what you pay for.

What to do with a stray pup who’s so matted and filthy he’s literally uncomfortable in his own skin? Shave him down and start over, of course. Thankfully the weather was just right for such extreme grooming when I brought my recent Multnomah County foster dog to Portland Pampered Pets.
They took pity on his condition, and they did what they could to preserve his muzzle and top hair so he would still look adorable for his «please adopt me» photo shoot. These ladies are top notch in my book and have absolutely earned my repeat business with future foster dogs. I didn’t think his ears were fixable they were such a mess, but now they’re so soft and fuzzy — kind of like Yoda.
You’ve never seen a silly dog prance so much when he was done. He looked great, and his attitude would suggest that he knew it. My squealing with delight and making noises entirely unbecoming an adult probably tipped him off, but this little guy was working the room. «Thank you. Thank you very much. I’m here all week!»

It took Portland Pampered Pets 5 hours to groom our dogs, and they were kept in cages the whole time! We were told to leave them at 12, and they still weren’t ready by 5:00 p.m. It seems Portland Pampered Pets tries to pack in as many dogs as they can, rather than estimating how long each dog will take. This is poor care, and we will not be taking our babies here again.

I am done with Portland Pampered Pets after giving then three tries. Every time I have been to PPP I have tipped $ 15 hoping they might do a better job and do it in a timely fashion. They will never get it. They don’t need to. Every hipster and would be cool cat seems to take ther dog or cat to this run down business. Why not, ITS IN THE HAWTHORNE! It must be cool.
OK, Diane, the owner seems nice enough, but I have received 3 uneven cuts for my poor little dog. The first time they did not wash him. The second time I asked that his nails be done and the hair on his head be clipped. No can do! Same on trip 3.
The worst thing is this: the dogs have to be locked up while awaiting their turn. Last time it took 6 hours after I called well in advance for an appointment. This is not acceptable. I suggested my friend take her puppy there, and she had the same experience. I will now return to Urban Fauna. Even though it is more expensive they are reliable and will not steal a whole day of my pet’s short life. Shame on you, PPP!

My super hair-​ball dog needed a cut. He was panting all the time ’cause he was always so hot… so off Odin went to get his first cut. He took most of the day… poor guy. And poor staff — it was quite the challenge. Since his hair had grown so long, it was knotted all over the place… his legs and ears especially. What can I say? I have a dread-​dog.
These guys did a great job of getting Odin all cleaned up. For a measly $ 55, we had a dog that was without knots in his hair — and smelled good to boot. I would say that I didn’t much like the fluffy head he had (the hair was a touch too long)… but other than that, it was a pretty sweet deal. I’d definitely suggest taking your pooch over to Portland Pampered Pets.
