We are always excited to meet new patients seeking the orthodontic correction of bite conditions as well as individuals who need treatment for sleep apnea and temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ or TMD).

Your initial consultation will consist of a thorough examination of your individual condition and a discussion of your potential treatment options. A second appointment may be needed for further diagnostic work, including X-​rays, digital imaging and impressions of your teeth.

Business Owner

Portland, Oregon, orthodontist Dr. JD Miller was born and raised in Salem, Oregon. He attended Sprague High School, and he graduated from Willamette University with a degree in biology.

Dr. Miller earned his DDS from the University of Southern California and completed his residency in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Prior to opening Portland Pearl Orthodontics, Dr. Miller provided orthodontic treatment at practices in southern California and Salem.

Dr. Miller is a member of the American Association of Orthodontics, the Oregon Dental Association and the Marion Polk Dental Association. He is also active in the Rotary.

Outside of helping patients achieve perfect smiles, Dr. Miller enjoys spending time with his family and traveling

Dr. Miller has been my orthodontist for a little over a year, in that time seen SUCH a big improvement in my smile. Besides the cosmetic benefits of straight teeth, a crossbite put a few of my teeth at risk for fracturing later in life, so the health long-​term benefits of sooner-​than-​later orthodontic care are more important than most people realize. I have lingual braces (braces on the back of your teeth) and they are a really tricky way to adhere braces, and in ADDITION to the technique being difficult, I break inordinately more brackets off of my teeth than most orthodontic patients normally could if they used their mouth like an *actual* circular saw for nacho eating (I live life on the edge, I guess, what can I say?). My visits are always SO quick, completely and entirely without discomfort, and Dr. Miller only compliments his devastating good looks with the etiquette and charm not to criticize my shortcomings in personal orthodontic care. If it weren’t for Dr. Miller, I would probably be terrified of this kind of work.
The best part about lingual braces, is that you don’t have to take them in and out like Invisalign; Therefore you are less likely to lose them or decide not to wear them for a few hours– and NO ONE KNOWS! I can honestly say that I already have a smile that I never dreamed of, and receive compliments on weekly.

Dr. Miller is fantastic. I came to see him to get an opinion pertaining to jaw surgery to fix my overbite. He gave me a professional recommendation along with options for braces. Office staff was very professional and accommodating.

Oh how much I love these guys!!! Dr. Miller is super amazing… kind, caring, listens, and answers all questions like they are the most important question ever (and of course, they are to us!) His team is just as amazing! Sheena, Jan and everyone there are the kindest, best sort of people. I couldn’t recommend them more. I’ve recommended them over and over. My daughter is 2 months away from being done with her appliances. Even though we are moving states, they have accommodated our appointments to right before we leave and when we are returning for a visit. Seriously, you don’t have to look anywhere else… go to Pearl Ortho! (P.S. the appliances have fixed my daughter’s protruding tongue speech problems!!!) If there were 6 stars I could give on a 5 star rating, I would!

I live in Florida but I’m getting married in Portland. I wanted a dentist who could help me with professional whitening before my wedding. A friend recommended Portland Pearl because she had her braces done with them. I was so pleased with my consultation. I was only visiting for a week this time and I really felt like a priority. They were able to take my molds and make my trays in a timely manor and set a follow up appointment for when I return in July. Sheena the office manager was so sweet and professional! I’m not normally the type to write reviews unless the company I feel really wows me and they did! I look forward to my teeth cleaning and second round of teeth whitening in July!

Dr Miller and his team are first class, profession, and friendly. I am an old guy and completed my invisalign treatment nearly a year ago. The results have been outstanding. I would hightly recommend his office should you be considering orthodontic work!

I had my first consultation at Dr. Miller’s office last week and it was incredible!
The staff was so friendly, and the office was very comfortable and inviting… I could have easily taken a nap in the consult room.
As someone who is typically uncomfortable at the dentist/​orthodontist, the staff made me feel very comfortable. Dr. Miller was very informative and explained things in a way that really put me at ease about my next year of treatment. It only makes me wish i had sought out an orthodontist sooner!

Dr Miller is a pro.
Super easy to get an appointment (not the case everywhere…), and for me it’s a pretty awesome location: I don’t have a car, so the streetcar stop outside is a plus, but to be honest I work downtown I usually just walk (which is probably faster than the streetcar anyway…). There’s loads of parking anyway though if you’re from a bit further out.
Also he’s opened late one or two times so I don’t have to miss work (I’m not sure how often he does this, but he seemed totally chilled about the whole thing when I asked — probably phone up and see first though!), which is really the reason I’m writing this review — that’s pretty awesome service.
