Providence Medical Group – Gateway Family Medicine

After a disappointing experience with Providence Milwaukie Hospital, and an extremely disappointing experience with Providence Eastport Plaza (yeah…not going there again…), I am pleased to give Providence Family Medicine Gateway Immediate Care the highest review I can give.
After 4 days of increasing illness, I was pretty much rolled into the car and taken up to Gateway (Eastport is only blocks away, but yeah… that’s another story).
I couldn’t be more pleased with the care I received. Intake was prompt, everyone (EVERYONE) was kind, courteous, efficient, and compassionate, from the receptionist to the nurse to the x-​ray tech to the doctor. The doctor, incidentally, was exceptional. Dr. Calawa, thank you especially for your kind, thorough, and gentle care.
The facility was well-​lit, welcoming, and extremely clean. Not a big fan of going to the doctor ever, but if I have to go, or I have to take a family member, Providence Gateway Immediate Care will be top on my list.

This has been my FM clinic for over a year now and I love my care team (Team B!) My PCP is wonderful, she was my OB during my pregnancy and is now also my baby boy’s PCP.
Immediate Care is a fine tuned machine. Yes, the wait is LONG but that’s because it’s on the max line and one of the most accesible ICs in SE Portland.

I was told to get a lab drawn here by my family physician. They faxed an order into this lab on Monday. I went in on my day off (Thursday) and they couldn’t find the order nor did they have any idea who my doctor is or how to reach her. I called them and they had the order, but somehow the person at Gateway has no idea how to look it up on the computer. I’m an employee of Providence; I work 11 to 12 hour days; I don’t have time to go to this lab over and over again on my one day off a week. This is simply an incompetent organization that doesn’t care about its patients.

Super friendly, fast, personable, and efficient. Love them as much as you can love a doctor ;)

Welp, if you have to be sick or injured, this is as good a place to be as any. I’ve been to immediate care twice for workman’s comp stuff. They’re expedient. They’re accessible.

Providence has been an great hospital to my family and friends over the last couple of years, I have taken various people the emergency room and they have been treated well. I had never experienced their service personally though until recently.
I was taken to another hospital recently were I was treated by a rude nurse and doctor who did not listen to me or diagnose me correctly.
The next day I was taken into Providence Urgent Care Center where I received great service. I got in fast, I was treated kindly, and I was diagnosed correctly. Thank you Providence.

The night before New Year’s Eve I bypassed going straight home and decided to end my year at the Urgent Care. I had been waking up to stabbing abdominal pains and had a constant dull ache in my lower back. One of my best friends who is also a nurse (hey Shari!) told me that I had to get it checked out immediately.
Well, sparing you the details of what is actually wrong with me, I will say that everyone at the Providence Urgent Care was great. The women at the check-​in desk were kind and polite when they took my information. I waited about a half hour and a Medical Assistant came out and took all of my vitals. He was funny and personable but professional the whole time. Finally, the doctor came in and listened to all of my symptoms and checked me out as thoroughly as she could. She didn’t give me a definite diagnosis but ruled out some major things that eased my overly worried mind.
i was there about an hour and a half total but outside of the waiting room time I was with a staff member so I didn’t feel like I was just sitting around waiting and wasting my time. Definitely a good place to come if it’s after hours and you can’t see your regular primary care physician.

I was sick over the weekend and had to go to the doctor. I can’t say enough nice things about Providence Urgent Care — Gateway. Definitely try calling ahead – they took all my insurance information over the phone and set me up with an appointment to come in about 45 minutes later. When we got there, I walked in the door and was immediately seen. It was literally half an hour from getting there to leaving.
The nurse practitioner was fantastic and they got me feeling better almost immediately. I would definitely go back!

The only reason it is not getting 5 stars (or more if I could give them!) is because of the wait… but that was not their fault…
Right after moving to Portland I got in a terrible car accident… I totaled the car on Mt. Hood and was hurt pretty bad inside (tendons and such). I had not established a primary care doctor here yet and so I went to the medical center at Gateway to their urgent care.
It was so easy and they were so great and sadly I will be returning to them tomorrow due to constant migraines and again not having a primary care doc (I lag so bad!!)
But seriously… they understood me in all my mess and confusion… but it did take almost 3 hours to see someone (they had some big stuff come through!
I met some super interesting people and the x-​ray techs were awesome. I had to pose in some uncomfortable positions so they could check my hips (which are still messed up!) and the guy was just great… knew it was awkward and made light of it but not too light… just enough so you felt ok.
