Quimby Corp

I stopped in to Quimby with my sister, who was in dire need of a new TIG welder.* The gentleman who helped us, who had received a degree from Linn-​Benton Community College in metallurgy (sometimes I pay attention), was extremely helpful throughout the process. He asked my sister a number of questions to determine the kind of welding she would be doing, and effectively elicited various other useful pieces of information regarding how she would be using her new welder. (Nearly all of these questions and answers went over my head.)
After filling in the broad strokes, the gentleman provided a number of alternative models, clearly outlining their various attributes and the prices associated with each. After a bit more discussion my (knowledgeable and not clueless) sister picked out a model, and the kind gentleman quickly outfitted her with all the associated bits and pieces that are needed to make a shiny new welding thingy, um, weld things. I know there was a tank involved, and some other weldy stuff. He helped us load everything safely into my sister’s truck, and off we went.
I don’t know about welding. But I know a bit about customer service. The gentleman who helped us was friendly, accommodating, knew his business, and had a well-​stocked shop. He didn’t try to sell us the most expensive model, but rather clearly wanted to ensure that we walked away with the right model for our needs. It was a good experience all around.**
*This sentence probably would have been more useful if it had read as follows: I, in my role as clueless brother, stopped in to Quimby Welding Supply with my sister, an MFA graduate student who specializes in metal sculpting, who was in dire need of a new tungsten inert gas arc welding apparatus.
**Except for the guy who came in to pick something up half-​way through our time there who was so aggressively ogling my sister that I had to do something about it. So the next time I caught him visually groping her I stared him in the eye until he noticed me noticing him staring, at which point he at least had the good grace to look embarrassed. But that wasn’t Quimby’s fault.

Quimby Corp gives me gas.
Well, okay, they don’t give it to me, they sell it to me. But it is true that whenever I go there, I get mad gas. Helium gas.
Quimby provides all sorts of compressed gasses for the masses (and some that the masses can’t have access to). They also sell welding and pneumatic supplies. I’m a patron because my job blows… up balloons sometimes and I hate the impact of those stupid Party Time disposable helium tanks (so much waste). So i finally bought myself a helium tank from Quimby. Now all I have to do is use up my tank, roll in, exchange it for a different one (that’s been filled and tested), and roll out to the party.
Sure, there was an initial expense that was on the higher end (for the regulator and such) but the cost per fill is cheaper than one of those Party Time tanks (at least when I started doing it) and the payoff in conscience is rewarding to say the least.
