Residence Inn Portland – Downtown Waterfront

Stayed at the Residence in for an overnight trip to Portland for a 30^th birthday celebration. Check-​in was super easy and Margaret was friendly and inviting. The room was amazing. Incredibly clean with a kitchen and full sized fridge. You could easily stay here for a long period of time and be comfortable. The bed was amazing. The pillows I considered stealing, but ultimately didn’t. I forgot to ask the concierge what brand they were because I wanted them for my own house! Hotel is in a great location, walking distance to lots of restaurants and bars. If you don’t feel like walking, we had a great experience with both Über drivers we used! We parked our car in the garage next door and save $ 38 with the front desk validating our ticket! We will definitely stay here again on our next trip!

Beautiful hotel. Love the lobby. They had nice Christmas trees up… I hope they never stop this! We had a waterfront room and it was so nice! The lights above the bed were super loud when you flipped the switch (might want to check on that). Went down for a couple drinks around 830 with our baby on a Tuesday: It was chill— sat on the floor by the fire and he played with some toys. Really felt like home. Bartender was friendly! Very close to everything. Breakfast was the usual complimentary buffet. Front desk was helpful, houseman was sweet. $ 12 parking garage. Lots of luggage carts! Good stuff in the market.

This Hotel has the amenities that a travel weary patron is looking for… Spacious rooms, Wifi, comfy bed or beds, kitchen yes with a fridge too! oh yeah the bathroom has a door that opens where terlet is so watch yer tootsies could be a painful meeting… Great bar knowledgeable beertender has awesome insight on the happenings in Portland Maine. The ONLY complaint I have and its minor would be parking, there’s a parking garage thats adjacent to the Hotel if your stay/​visit is short could be an advantage. Parking is a problem in all our major cities Portland is no exception. The Residence Inn is very close to all the happenings in the city plus they do offer a Shuttle service so come to Portland Maine an book a room at the Residence Inn.

Great hotel! Very convenient and is in walking distance to some incredible restaurants. Rooms are large and décor is serviceable for a chain hotel. Would definitely stay again. Very pleased with our experience. Oh, yes breakfast was a nice plus!

We got a two bedroom, two bathroom suite, and I couldn’t be happier. King size beds, complete kitchen, a jar of candy on the table — everything was great! The pool was very nice and the jacuzzi tub was relaxing. There were also a set of showers next to the pool, which was convenient. This hotel has a ²⁴⁄₇ free coffee, hot chocolate, and tea station in the lobby. In addition to this, the breakfast buffet is free and they have everything! Employees were also very nice and accommodating. Other Marriotts that I have stayed at did not include these complementary services, and the wait staff were rude. Great hotel!

Nice and clean with convenient locations to all parts of Portland. The bar is pretty good for a Residence Inn and the breakfast wasn’t too shabby either. The price was good for the location and the staff was very pleasant.

Room is clean but a little small for three people. Kinda super low toilets. Great breakfast. Tons of different items and they even have soy milk. Yea! Parking is about 20 feet and $ 12 a day. So if you have early morning stuff downtown, expect a 6 minute walk. Beats downtown parking prices. Shuttle does start running at 9a. Clean pool and hot tub. Nice! This hotel is at the end of the downtown area so it’s kinda quiet but you have a schlep to shops and restaurants. Oh there are no one bedroom suites facing the water. So it’s either courtyard or a wall.

We stayed at the Residence Inn (Downtown Waterfront) on our recent trip to Portland, ME. We had a really good experience here. The staff was very friendly and courteous giving us a breakdown of all the local hot spots and good eats in the area. They had a full bar in the main floor along with free continental breakfast in the mornings. Not the cheap stuff either. In the bar you can enjoy some of the best whisky and scotch and in the morning you can choose from cereal, eggs, bacon, sausage and biscuits, waffles along with bagels and toast.
The hotel is right on old port so it was in the perfect spot just about a 10 minute walk from anywhere in old port for restaurants, shops and harbors. We were able to walk everyday to local restaurants for lunch and dinner and enjoy the nightlife in town all while being just 10 – 15 minutes from the hotel.
The rooms have a small kitchen but its perfect for a week’s stay if you want to buy some food in the local shops or farmers market or if you have kids and need to whip up some grub for the little devils. Fridge, microwave and dish washer included. We had a king size bed along with a sofa and long chair which you can fall asleep in easy. Bathrooms were average size of a second or third bathroom in your home and a separate sink and big mirror. Plenty of furniture for storage as well. The view wasn’t the best (we had the wall view of the Shipyard Brewing Company I believe) However, we didn’t spend a lot of time in the hotel so it wasn’t a bother. All in all I had a great experience at the hotel and I would recommend.

Terrible for business travelers. I stay in Marriotts every week of the year and this location has the slowest wifi of any in the last 10 years. Could not even download documents. Shuttle was hard to book. Had a hard time getting in at midnight to check in. Seemed like a franchise where they were cutting expenses at every corner. Would never stay here again.

Until my last two go rounds, I have had very positive experiences at the Residence /​Marriott. But I can not say that manager Gil Hartman or the rest of his staff have been able to maintain that consistent quality level associated with Marriott.
Early in the morning back in February the hotel had a solid toilet over flow that got out of control. I mopped up and saved the hotel room carpet from damage. There had been issues with the artsy low volume flush toilets reported I was told. Manager Gil called my room, apologized and insisted I come see him when I come down. I was going to checkout after a multi nite stay. He left a gift certificate for a nite stay in the city view studio suite. The gift certificate is good through December 31, 2014.
Today12.26.14 I called to book the suite. I was told they had availability and they would love to book it until she realized I had a gift certificate. Ashley got really defensive on the phone said promotions manager Holly needed to approve the coding and it would be 5 days. They transferred me between reservation services elsewhere back and forth. I put my wife on the phone as a backup. They told her to hold for supervisor and let her rot. Finally hung up on her and i.
Emily and Ashley were very rude and caddy and didn’t like that I would not take No for an answer. From my perspective, you have available rooms, I have a pretty paid gift certificate. No strings attached. The girls got scared when I left a message on Gil voice mail. They made up a lie that I was Vulgar. These 2 chick’s have wicked attitude. Anyway… I called my way up the Marriott line. Hours and hours of corporate excuses, lies and disassociation of Marriott from Residency. Anyway they insist the only way to get my gift certificate booked is to go through this Holly woman.
I can’t believe Gil Hartman the general manager can’t authorize a gift certificate that he personally gave me. I can assure you Gil acted like a real Big shot when he told me he wanted to make good on their mess up. Gil assured me of his sincerity by extending an awkward handshake. Gil has abnormal bulging pecks from years of too much man workouts. His dated pressed shirt and starched collar and cuffs are from the 80 wall st. movie.
At the time Gil thought he was a pretty big boy but as it turns out the gift certificates he hands out are garbage. Without the real boss Holly, Gil is no more than a puppet.
I am not happy with this experience and it’s too bad. Too Bad for Residents Marriott on Fore st. In Portland, Me. A newer place is next door and the Sheridan is closer to the fun.
Do not stay here. Better places are closer to the fun. No integrity of management. Terrible front desk girls Ashley and Emily. These 2 hens have taken this place from hero to Zero in one day. These girls were caddy and rude and lied to protect their jobs. I am hurt. Please support my experience by booking elsewhere and commenting here negatively. Thank you. Ps. The location is on the edge of the commercial zone. Smelly puke like old beer odor on block. Train tracks across street with junkies bums and perverts. Edge of housing development on Munjoie hill. Notoriously bad area. Last but not least. one block from small tavern where stabbings and shooting have occurred. Personally saw a drunk who couldn’t stand up, rolling in the wet street gutter. Thank you for not booking here.

Staying at this hotel was one of the most disappointing lodging experiences I have ever had. The idea that this hotel calls themselves luxury is comical, as the service was a disgrace, and the rooms, and location did nothing to make up for it. I will break it down for you:
— Almost every person my mother and I encountered was rude, disinterested, and had no quality of service. When we checked in and found we were on the first floor, we asked to move, and were simply ignored. The southern man checking us in talked over our question, and did not even provide a «enjoy your stay» at the end.
— Our room (on the first floor) had a view of a brick wall (I am not joking). The fact that a luxury hotel would even provide a room like this is ridiculous. We paid good money (4 – 5 star hotel money) and that is what they provided.
— Because I was vacationing with my mother, I was going to sleep on the pull out. This bed was not made-​up so when we left to go out, we asked the front desk if they could make up the bed for me. The manager at the front said «What, you can’t make your own bed?» Again, not joking. That is how poor the service was. After I said I would not, he said that they would send someone. When we returned to the room, the bed was made, but no pillows were provided. I guess the couch cushions were good enough?
— The next morning at 6:50 am, I was woken up by a wet-​vac vacuuming the rugs outside our room. This lasted a good ten minutes before I got up, opened the door and told them to stop.
— After the wet-​vac incident, we called the front desk and told them we wanted to move. The front desk told us that they would have to «check with housekeeping» to see if a room is free. I am pretty sure this was a lie, since the front desk has the reservations on the computer, not housekeeping. We never got a call back, so I eventually went to the front desk and demanded to move because we were woken up and we had a brick wall view. And surprise surprise, there was a free room on the 5^th floor (which also had a bad view of other rooms, and the concrete courtyard). This room was probably free the night prior as well.
— The remainder of the hotel was decent (not high quality by any means). The free breakfast was actually good, but the rest of the hotel lacked any sense of care. The location was fine, but not great, further from downtown than other places, but not further down in price. The parking situation was also a negative as you had to park in the garage next to the hotel and pay an extra fee for this, on top of the overpriced rooms.
— When we left the checkout person was equally rude. She barely engaged us, didn’t ask us about our stay. She asked what room we had, and then took our key.
Overall this hotel treated us, and I am sure other vacationers, like a burden, like we are all young kids that have no standards for hotels, yet they expected us to pay top dollar. What you see online is not what you get! The Residence Inn Marriott should be ashamed!

Love the rooms. We showed up early because check in is 4pm, which I think is kind of late but they were awesome about it and got us in a room right away. The breakfast that is included was great. The bar is kind of expensive but we liked our drinks and the service.

Pros: The deluxe studio room offers a spacious kitchen area with everything from a stove, garbage disposal, dishwasher, and even dishes! This was a big plus for my husband and I, who were visiting Portland for a couple days for our anniversary vacation. It made food prep very easy for the times we decided to eat in.
Cons: It rained quite a bit, which meant our cable kept going down. A LOT. My husband also really wanted to purchase a movie to charge to our room like many hotels offer since cable didn’t have a whole lot on, but this wasn’t an option from this particular Marriott.
Plan B? We also attempted to watch movies from our laptop/​iPad but the wifi would NOT connect anywhere in our room for our entire stay. The signal was strong enough to bring in the occasional email through an app, but it wouldn’t open any web pages for browsing, let alone for movies. We did mention this to the front desk staff, and the young guy was apologetic and stated we shouldn’t be experiencing these issues especially for the price we were paying for that room (we agreed!). This really comes down to the hotel management looking into making sure their services are working as promised though, and we weren’t going to throw a fit over tech problems. We were, after all, on an anniversary trip. If it hadn’t rained so much we wouldn’t have been attempting to watch much TV or really use the internet anyway, because there are plenty places for tourists to visit in the Portland area.
Overall, the room was definitely nice with a great view (though not immediately waterfront, which should be noted if you are under the assumption it is) and we had a good stay. This Marriott should look into these tech problems and take care of for the future though. If things like cable and wifi are promised, they should actually work.

We had a great stay at the Marriott. Great view and thank god I’m not looking at a parking lot! The pull out bed was okay but good enough for me. The TV was good and I liked the mini kitchen. Also, the breakfast buffet was delicious!

Located in the heart of downtown, this Marriott is on my list of «will return» locations. Front desk employees were awesome. Rooms were typical, clean and decent size. There is a nice full bar in the lobby area which is unique for a Residence Inn. The bartender was excellent! My only complaint is the parking situation. When leaving it was raining very hard and you have to go outside across the street to the parking garage to retrieve your car.

Portland Residence Inn is a nice extended stay hotel. Located on Fore Street and away from all the busy activities, the hotel provided a good base to explore the city. Rooms are clean and efficient. Plumbing could be improved upon and housekeeping could be more on top of refreshing soaps, shampoos, etc.
The concierge was quite helpful in providing dining suggestions and she was very friendly as well. A nice touch is the complementary shuttle service to restaurants which are a bit too far for walking.
Overall, property is good and customer service, is very good.

I have stayed at several Marriott hotels over the past few years, and thankfully the level of quality remains unchanged at this Residence Inn location in Portland.
We stayed here recently on a weekend for a quick getaway, and were not disappointed. Though the Residence Inn are designed for lengthy stays, they also accommodate regular vacation travelers like my family.
We arrived midday on a Saturday, and early check-​in was not an issue. The front desk staff were very cordial and welcoming. Some reviewers have complained about the off site parking garage, but this was a complete non-​issue for me. The parking garage is next door! Seriously. It was $ 12 for the parking which I found to be reasonable for a downtown location.
We had a studio room which was equipped with a King bed, pull out sofa, large tv, and a full kitchen area. The room had a view of the ocean, but should be noted that the hotel is not «directly» on the ocean, but is on the opposite side of a local shipyard. From the 4^th floor however, we had a great view. I called down to the front desk for towels and extra pillows and my request was handled in 10 minutes. There is a nicely maintained indoor pool/​spa which we used for a few hours.
Our stay also included a free breakfast buffet which was standard fare of pancakes, eggs, waffles, etc… It was mediocre, but still edible. Overall, I was very satisfied with this Marriott location and would recommend it without question. See you next time!

Location isn’t great at all — at the far end of fore street. You need to walk 3 – 4 blocks or so to get to the shopping/​bars/​restaurants
We chose this hotel bc it’s pet friendly. They charge a fee of $ 100 per stay. We were there 4 nights so that wasn’t bad at all. Very reasonable.
The entryway is a cluster — they need more space or a valet/​bellman to direct traffic or even valet park the car. The garage is across the street. Make sure the expiration date of your in/​out pass doesn’t expire before your checkout. Several guests including us had a problem and the garage attendant said we owed money and we couldn’t leave the garage. The garage isn’t run by the hotel. I am impressed with the employee on duty one night — we were late for dinner and she actually ran a new parking pass over to us rather than asking us to park again and walk back and forth to the lobby to get a new pass from them. Saved us lots of time and she deserves much credit for going above & beyond.
Rooms are nice — stainless steel appliances if you get a kitchenette. Very clean on arrival.
One of our 4 nights housekeeping didn’t make over our room while we were out shopping all day. Not even a phone call asking if we needed anything. Disappointing there.
Breakfast is average but decent if you go with cereal or waffles. They always have good coffee 24 hrs in the lobby.
The bar area is nice — bartender was nice. Lots of good local beers.
Free wifi was good speed without issues.
The daytime driver is miserable and shouldn’t be in the hospitality industry. He was sitting at the tourist info desk (at the time I didn’t know he was a driver — thought he was a concierge) and was unhelpful and short with me — offering literally no help or information when asked about ferry service. He also doesn’t like the fact the hotel he works at allows dogs — he doesn’t like them and makes it known.
The nighttime driver is great. More than happy to help with area information, offered us a ride to a restaurant and very accommodating to our dog — even made our dog feel welcome by offering him treats when we came in after walks at night.
I would stay here again because its pet friendly — and would hope certain aspects of service improve. If I found a pet friendly hotel closer to downtown or traveled without our dog we wouldn’t stay here again.

Beautiful hotel! Great location right on Fore Street, rooms are spotless, TVs are really nice, bathrooms are clean, water pressure was great, bed was super comfy, fitness center was huge, free wifi, free breakfast in the morning, and the staff are fabulous. I know there are a lot of great B&Bs in Portland but this hotel was just as good and I’d come back any time.
